Varys is one of my favorite characters in the series, he truly wants a world that is good for all of the people or Westeros but he knows he has no title or power to make it happen so he just lays low, and judges and watches and seeks out those who can. He's like a true crusader for the common man, but he's also so fucking smart and knows the game. Every word out of his mouth is like a little nugget of wisdom and goodness and hope, said in a subtle enough way that it can't be used against him. The big fish eat the little fish and he keeps on swimming.

I've collected a few new reaction channels lately. Mostly to have more reactions for HotD when season 2 comes out. I know it'll be quite a while before you get there, but I'm still glad I found you. You're one of the best, in my opinion. I always love watching something I love with people for the first time, and I don't get the chance to do that very often. So I appreciate what you do. 🙂

You’re right on about basically everything. Tyrion definitely does have a lot of lower right now. He can’t override Joffrey, but Joffrey is basically not involved in the day-to-day management of his kingdom, whereas Tyrion is. Joffrey is basically an immature sadist who has impulsive command of individual events, whereas Tyrion has control over literally everything that makes the kingdom run.

I am so glad you are trying to understand what Sansa is going through. Many people hate her and never even bothered to understnad how she must feel. She is now all alone surounded by people that killed her father in front of her, supposed to marry the psycho person who ordered it and made her watch his head on a pike. She is trying to survive and will do anything to not provoke them and convince them she is on their side. I absolutely love you reactions, whenever you post it brightens my day!

I can't name a series where a teenager or kid wouldn't be annoying af 😂 Its the age they start to think they ate all the knowledge of the world and stuff like that. There is actually a really good video someone made explaining Sansa's journey and why she acted as she did at certain points. Can't remember who made it and what is it called tho.

another really cool thing: when ron predicted what harry would go through in divination, he was actually right. he would suffer because of what he's going through in this year, the whole sirius black situation, but he was going to be happy about it because he would get a new home. also, dementors are basically a representative of depression.

Dont worry about not catching everything at first glance, some references feel isolated because a film can only take you so far. It's clear that to get the full picture and fully understand every bit, one has to read the book. Best trilogy of all time anyways.

People often treat Smeagol and Gollum as the "good" and the "bad", but they overlook that Smeagol is not often adovcating for the "better" choices, particularly because Smeagol seems child-like, trusting and starved for love. But if you look at the things that excite him, he's not innocent or compassionate. So I don't think he's a stand-in for a black and white inner struggle of good vs bad version of ourselves. Smeagol was kinda rotten from the start and Gollum is the (imaginary) Sam to his dark Frodo. And while I don't think he was written as irredeemable (because Tolkien was just that catholic), I do think that Smeagols entire issue started with the person he was before he got the ring and then went downhill from there and Gollum isn't "evil Smeagol" but "evil Sam".

The truth of Valyrian sorcery and how they came to be blood of the dragon isn’t entirely known, but evidence shows they are most likely descends from an ancient empire called the great empire of the dawn. It is believed a group or groups of refugees fled from this empire when a tyrant named the bloodstone emperors murdered his sister, stole her throne, and cause the first long night.

According to the books, Arween is 2,777 at the time of the events of LOTR. She's young. Galadriel, her grandmother (yes, her mother, Celebrian, is Galadriel's daugher). is about 8000 by the end of the story.

The movies does a disservice to Elrond. Elrond is an immortal whose whole family chose mortality. He is saying to Arwen what he has had to live with himself. He KNEW her fate if Aragorn didn’t chose to be king. He kept encouraging Aragorn to chose to be king because if he didn’t they wouldn’t have a child and Arwen would suffer. He loved Aragorn for himself but also because he is the last descendant of his twin brother. Elrond is having to leave Aragorn behind and he was hurting over that as well. His children and the children of his twin brother sustained him when family members kept dying. Elrond’s ONLY condition for blessing their Union was Aragorn becomes king and Aragorn said no.

I love watching reactions with a mix of Cadbury Astro's and salt and vinegar popcorn 😅 the sweet and sour just does it for me Also, again a great video I enjoy watching these so much especially after a rough day and I see an upload I'm like yay 😊 My honest opinion is that Aragorn and Éowen would have been a pretty good match if Arwen wasn't in the picture but with Aragorn being from a line of men that have longer life spans than others it's better he ended up with an elf - even if she gave up immortality she still has the same gift in her bloodline and Éowen is just a normal mortal woman Her ending up with Faramir is pretty great they're a sweet couple (Apologies for any spoilers but they're both favorite couples of mine) 😅😅❤

Enjoyed watching the movie with you! T2T was always going to be the hardest of the three movies to adapt--it's a "middle child," with no proper beginning or end. As a result, the screen-writers had to make more changes to Tolkien's book than with the other two movies. Most of the middle third of the movie was invented by Peter Jackson & Co., and the final several chapters were pushed into the ROTK movie. On the whole, I think they did a good job adapting Tolkien's book. My main gripe is their treatment of Faramir and his father Denethor. This kind of snowballs into the next movie. Looking forward to your reactions to ROTK.

Frodo needs to believe Gollum can be saved because he needs to believe that he, himself can be saved from what the ring is now doing to him.

  • @alextu_Music

Remember, Gollum/Smeagol had the Ring and was poisoned by it for 500 years. Bilbo had it for 60. Frodo has only had it for a little while and is already feeling its effects. And we've seen that, despite not having the Ring anymore, both Gollum and Bilbo still have desire for it. It's still affecting them. That's why Frodo wants to believe Gollum can "come back." If someone who's been corrupted by the Ring for literal centuries can be redeemed, then Frodo has hope for himself.

At 26:22 you ask, "How many are there?" It's an interesting question. When we first see Eomer near the pile of Orc carcasses, he has an eored of 120 men, of whom 15 had been killed in the battle. But there are way more than 105 charging down this slope. Later, after Theodred's funeral, Aragorn says, "You have 2,000 good men riding north as we speak." Presumably these are the riders we are seeing now. Were they banished along with Eomer? And how did they meet up with Eomer and his eored? None of this is in the book, by the way.

  • @johnwalters1341

At 7:44 you say, "Where's the signage?" Faramir and his men are commandos operating behind enemy lines. Their base is behind the waterfall, so they can't risk being discovered.

At 6:08 you say, "Don't lie!" It has always bothered me that the script writers put this lie in Frodo's mouth. In the book he says, "I do not know where he is...He is only a chance companion met upon our road, and I am not answerable for him. If you come upon him, spare him. Bring him or send him to us. He is only a wretched gangrel creature, but I have him under my care for a while."

Outstanding battle scene because 1) it demonstrates how to film a battle in the dark and the rain and yet clearly show everything that happens - unlike the battle at the end of GoT where I couldn't see a thing; and because 2) Tolkien was very knowledgeable about medieval sieges, with its ladders, undermining of walls, early use of gunpowder and battering rams. Helm's Deep seems very realistic because it was based on real sieges.

  • @johnwalters1341
    @johnwalters1341 4 дні тому

At 5:37 you ask, "How old are they?" Elves are potentially immortal. They can be slain in battle, and they can waste away from grief, but otherwise they live as long as the world lives. Elrond was born at an unspecified time in the First Age of Middle-earth, so he is over 6,000 years old. Arwen was born in the 241st year of the Third Age, so she is nearly 2,800 years old.

I know this will seem a little negative, however...I couldn't watch LOTR alongside Harry Potter, like you are. There's such a chasm in quality that it would really make it hard to enjoy HP. I try not to dunk too hard on fans of other fantasy series, everyone likes what they like, but if HP is ever on all I'm thinking is "I wish this was LOTR".

As far as I know at least parts of Lord of the Rings where written druing world war 2. Tolkien was a wise man, he was of course against he crimes which the germans commited during the war. But Tolkien also said that the german Soldiers weren´t devils, and many english people ( probably also Americans etc..) compared all the germans as devils. He said that they were also humans, manipulated by awful propaganda. And many Soldiers did not want to fight for Hitler, but just for their mother land and they wanted to be brave, like their fathers in wolrd war 1. Tolkien also fought in world war one, so I think we can trust his opinion on this.

Actually, probably better choice to let Grima live. Gandalf always urged pity. "For even the very wise cannot see all ends." And, in the fullness of time, (after you see the next film or read the books) you will (or should) see why leaving Wormtongue to his fate is actually the best choice. For, "...oft, evil will shall evil mar..."

Tolkien went through the hell of the trenches of WWI. Even though LOTR was published after the Second World War Tolkien, is obviously working through the trauma of his experiences from the trench war (just from the documentaries I can't believe how someone came back home still sane), as well as the camaraderie of brothers in arms, the desperate will to hope that there is still hope for the future. BTW - Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) literally spent nights in the stable with Brego to bond with the horse. He ended up buying Brego after the end of filming as well as another horse that one of the stuntwoman wanted to buy but could not afford and gave it to her.

Frodo needs to believe that Smeagol can come back, because if Smeagol who had the Ring for over 500 years can come back, then it stands to reason that Frodo could come back from this as well. Frodos fight with the Ring is internal, we don't see it, only some of it's effects, the terror of never being free of it, of not being able to get through his task keeps gnawing at him, and the only one who knows what it feels like to possess the Ring and get possessed by it, is Smeagol. Lord Elrond would be eternally separated from his daughter, I honestly think your attitude towards him was rather cold, this isn't him not wanting his baby girl to grow up and marry a man he disproves of, this is him losing his daughter for all eternity not even getting to reunite with her in an after life. I don't know why they keep framing Theodens decisions in this way, him letting Wormtongue leave wasn't suggested by Aragorn in the book, he did it himself, because Theoden agrees with Gandalfs view (bravery is to know when to spare a life), Helm's Deep was absolutely the best option available for them, and Gondor wouldn't come if called because they are dealing with too much themselves already. I assume they wanted to give him more of an arc, but it just results in a lot of people finding his character annoying, when they shouldn’t have to . Rest in peace to Bernard Hill, wonderful actor.

Just wanted to let you know, although you had to cut out the last march of the ents for copyright reasons, I could still hear it perfectly fine in my head and it gave me chills and brought me to tears like it always does
