10x your tool storage with this one simple build
It seems every garage in the world has one (or more) of those common metal tool chests. You know the ones. The kind with those tiny, shallow drawers… good enough for a few pencils, and maybe a wrench or two, but that’s about it. We know the score - those drawers were never designed for woodworkers! We need BIG drawers, for BIG tools. So let’s fix that!
In this video, I show you how to customize that store-bought tool chest, so you can make it perfect for YOUR needs! Using a half-sheet of 1/2” plywood and some common hardware, we'll convert 4 skinny, not-very-useful drawers, to one BIG 10” drawer. This is an easy afternoon build anyone can do - even if you’ve never built a custom drawer in your life.

When I saw your cover picture, a light bulb went on. I don’t have this saw, but i have other uses. You’ve made a portable t-track! I can attach this to my work table, my table saw, etc and put clamps and stop blocks wherever I need them! Good job.
Definitely, it all works on the same principle
Great idea..... Where do you find straight lumber?🤣😅🙄🙄 But, seriously, where do you buy your T track? It's very expensive
I have a link to it in the description for Rockler but you can usually find it cheaper on Amazon. In the Part 2 of this video I talk about how you can build one without T-track using a dovetail bit.
It’s “easy” to throw money at a problem. It’s brilliant to get quality result with limited resources! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Yeah buddy, you get it! 🫵
Great video jammed packed with tips and tricks, love it! Don't own a miter saw but couldn't a track-saw track be used??? they do have T slots...
I don’t think the slots would line up with the holes in the miter saw, and the front wouldn’t be flat. I show a lot more about how to line it up in Part 1 of this video
I have that same saw with that same base and have wanted some convenient way of setting up stop blocks that remained portable. I love this! I wonder if there's a way to rig up a holder on the bottom side of the base that would store the rails when the saw is folded up. The tricky part would be making sure it didn't interfere with the scissor mechanism.
That’s an interesting question. I just drilled a 1/2” hole in the end and hang them on the wall. I will have to look next time I’m in the shop
@@BustedKnuckleWoodworks That would be awesome!
Nice
And portable, hell yeah. Sold on this!
Check out the Part 2 video, lots of other ideas for this in that one
The stuff in your hands is not “Superstrut” You used “Thin-strut” or Unistrut, which is indeed flexible. You shouldve use “Super-Strut” or “Deep-Strut”.
Dude, I actually showed the screenshot from where I bought it. “Superstrut” is a BRAND NAME, like “Kleenex”. They make it in all sizes. www.homedepot.com/p/Superstrut-10-ft-14-Gauge-Silver-Half-Slotted-Electro-Galvanized-Strut-Channel-ZB14HS10EG/202714280
Hello from Canada Lee. Just a quick Thank You for this great idea. So simple and so cheap compared to Rockler clamps. Keep up the amazing, educational, easy to follow , and fun videos. And thanks for all you do for us newbie wood workers.
You are welcome! Thanks for the very kind comment!
Downloading it now. I just found 1970's manuals my dad had saved for tools he didn't have!
Yeah it’s amazing for grabbing manuals, that’s what I mostly use it for
Perfect descriptions of other "alters". Perfect reenactment of me trying to attach the problem fence to the saw😅😅😅
I must have dropped a thousand 3/4” screws on the floor
@BustedKnuckleWoodworks I just found your channel today. Already on my 3rd video. Great stuff. I'm downloading Fix app now!
Love this video. Sorry bromigo wife got ya beat lol
Yeah she’s quite a catch ❤️
Nice tips, don Hector!
De nada mi amigo 🛎️
I will be 100%building that exact same project today absolutely fantastic build.. thank you 👌👍❤️🦫🇨🇦
This is the first comment I have ever received containing a beaver emoji, and for that I thank you! 🦫 🇺🇸
Excellent idea and excellent video, but it looks like the slot shaped holes in the super strut would fit bar clamp bars much like the single position wood cauls, and work way better than bolts and wingnuts. What I'm saying is maybe you're a genius and just don't know it. Thanks for the idea(s)! 😊 👍
Unfortunately the slots in the struts don’t leave a lot of room for the clamp to press down on. (Plus it actually makes the whole setup a bit more expensive…)
Was that a Van Halen cover song during the ruler demo?
I wish! I love Van Halen 🎸
They are well over $600 in the UK just for the saw. He has done a review on the Dewalt. Not good!
Yeah, but Drew doesn’t know very much about track saws 😂
wow, thats an awesome idea. you can consider it copied, thanks for sharing
Copy away my man! 😁
Dont mind watchin but sometimes TOO much B.S.,IF WE WANT A COMEDYMOR MOVIE WE DONT NEED THIS!!!!😂😂😂😂😂
Sorry 🤷🏻♂️
Less than 1 minute into this video and I’m subscribed. Can’t wait to finish this one and watch the rest of your videos. Great video editing!
Where in Texas are ya? 🤠
Good tip.
Glad it was helpful!
Glad Trevor Philips got into woodworking. Great advice!
I didn’t know who Trevor Phillips was and had to google it. Which proves I’m actually old enough to be Trevor Phillips.
I’ve been saving my lunch money for that saw and delaying all the projects that could utilize it. What I’m not finding on UA-cam about it is experienced operators talking about how they get best quality cuts from theirs.
It’s pretty straightforward. The instructions that come with the saw are pretty good. I am still using the stock blade and my cuts come out very nice.
Well I'm gonna be building this this weekend! I've been meaning to make a fence for my miter saw, and this looks practical and simple.
It definitely is! Make sure to watch the follow up to this video, lots more good ideas to add to this
Thanks - great video! You can take this idea a little further by using wedges between the bolts and the work to add clamping pressure to the joints.
I know… a couple others suggested that also. I tried it and it definitely works!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Love your ingenuity, Lee. Did you know that, if you use a 10 degree dovetail bit, your slot can accommodate Matchfit and Festool and T channel clamps and bolts? There's a guy who did a couple of videos on it. Gotta love a multitasker! Thanks for sharing.
Wow, did not know that! Super awesome tip! 👍
Can you flip it over and just use a larger diameter washer with the same inside diameter? If so then only thing you need to use the flat back side is one set of larger washers.
If you can find large enough fender washers you definitely can. They make special washers that fit these struts but they are kind of expensive. They do fit exactly though.
THANK YOU! As a beginner woodworker I really wanted something like that Rockler clamp but didn't want to shell out $260+ for 2!
I know right! Me neither!
Just found this, and loved the fact, that you don't take yourself too seriously! The ability to laugh at yourself is great... Oh, burn that Red Sox shirt! Go Yankees! I have used the larger strut, to make my mother a new cloths line! Works great!
Love that you dug the video! #SOX4LIFE 😂
Lee, the switch alone was probably $200 putting it in the same price range as the one it replaced. Art from Ohio
Good point there
great video, love the humor and editing - gained a sub ;) BUT - wouldnt it make much more sense to flip the metal beams? dont the tiny edges leave imprints on you boards?
Not usually necessary, but you certainly could do that. You would really have to crank these down hard for that to happen.
I like it!
Thanks, appreciate you watching
Where ya’ been, man? Only two videos in the last 3 months?
I know, I know… lots of life stuff going on. Got a couple of good ones cooking though!
how about a strip of hdpe instead of waxing them? wax might be a pain later at the finishing stage.
Sure, great idea
Stupid video. Just take two profile pipes with thick walls, wrap them in stretch wrap and press the parts with them.
two depths are available. the type shown is the shallower.
Actually 3 depths. I should have mentioned that in the video! 🤦🏻♂️

I don’t speak this language 🤷🏻♂️
Good video. I do like having my miter saw flush with my bench - not an alter, but practical. I am going to be adding an extended fence such as you describe in your video. Thanks!
Right on! You will find it a practical modification
curious why you made it adjustable? what if I skip the t rack in the back and just screw mdf to directly to the saw
You could certainly do that with threaded inserts if you wanted
Perfect…but I’d use these flat side down…thanks for the idea 😎
You’re welcome 😊
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I have my miter saw on a folding stand, so I can easily move it out of the way. I have no room for an altar to it. But ... I needed a longer fence ... and this is perfect. Thanks for the great video.
Thanks for watching Laura, glad it helped!
I love how you think outside the “box!”!!!
I thought outside the box by building a box! 😁
Who you gonna caul?!?! 😀
Strutbusters!
I work at an auto manufacturer's site (in IT) the machine shop guys fabricate so much stuff out of unistrut and aluminum tubing!
It’s super handy stuff!
I like it Lee. Easy and quick. Thank you
No problem 👍
That's absolutely nuts
I know right???
You were so obnoxious I bailed out.
You could have just bailed without saying anything.
In UK/Europe these are called DIN rails
Interesting, I didn’t know that… 🤔
