This is Part 2 of a two-part video, where I explain in detail how to outfit a 1.5 HP dust collection system for a small woodworking shop, including setting it up with the iVac dust control automation system, and the use of Izzy Swan Quickloc fittings.

I know I'm 9 months late to this video, but I just recently bought the exact same system, and I can firmly agree with all the grades given. This is an excellent machine. Only drawbacks are the assembly instructions and the customer service. Fight through those, and you have a fine addition to your shop. My wife even made the comment that she can't believe how little dust has been in the shop since installation.
Yeah, I love it. Worth it just for the bucket system. SOOO much easier that messing with strap clamps. I just hope to heaven I never need to call them. 😂
I appreciate your honesty in the review. I have an almost immediate distrust of "sponsored review" and like the fact that you buy it and can be truthful without major risk.
I'm still on the fence about getting something like this or a wall mounted unit.
My wife loved the sound effect of kids cheering when you gave out an A as a grade.
The main reason I bailed on the wall mounted unit is that I have to move stuff around a lot here to shoot video. If not for that I would have given the Rockler more consideration, paired with a decent cyclone of course.

A little late to the party but wanted to say that looks like a very nice dust collector and your channel is great too. As for Laguna customer support, I bought a 14bx band saw middle of last year and had an issue with the cast iron bracket/cradle that the table trunnions ride on. Took me a little process of elimination fiddling to identify the bracket as the culprit to the table not staying aligned at the blade mounting slot. I also received a ratchet knob that secures the table in place with a bad threaded insert. Seems Laguna customer service is quite variable as I contacted them via their website’s contact us page and they reached out the next day. They tried to trouble shoot the problem but there was no fix other than to replace the parts. They asked that I send a couple of photos to verify things and then shipped the parts quickly. Maybe luck of the draw, but I’m up and running and the saw works great. Agree with you that their manuals aren’t worth much, definitely need better photos and a technical writer who has actually gone through the assembly process. Also agree with you on Laguna’s design and fit and finish being so much nicer than so many of the other machines out there.

I gotta say, this is the first story I've ever heard of a good experience with Laguna customer service. You're probably correct in that it could be the luck of the draw as to who picks up your message. They make some amazingly nice tools though, gotta give them that one.
@@BustedKnuckleWoodworks Sorry state of affairs if I was one of the few lucky people with a good experience. Maybe because it was a warranty related item that Laguna’s response was quick vs. just the usual kind of service question, but regardless, when you spend this much money on a machine of any kind you expect competent and helpful support when it’s needed. Don’t know if it made any difference, but the support person was located at their facility in Texas and actually went into the warehouse and tried to reproduce the problem I was having. Guy really seemed to want to learn how to troubleshoot problems and eliminate possible causes until the issue was found. Will see what happens if/when I buy another Laguna tool. Keep up the great content on your channel!
Excellent video series, Lee (parts 1 & 2, almost 45 minutes of superb detail). I'm on the cusp of investing in a system like this because my Craftsman shop vac + Home Depot Dustopper just isn't powerful enough to handle what my SawStop cabinet saw is putting out. These two videos were incredibly comprehensive. I really appreciate it and learned a lot, so THANK YOU. Side note, you mentioned that dust collection on miter saws is notoriously bad -- I found a solution that's like 95% effective, provided by Travis over at Shop Nation -- I bought his 3D printed replacement collector/manifold for my Bosch 12" glider and when it's hooked up to my Festool CT MIDI dust extractor, it works amazingly well -- almost no dust escapes. Thanks for sharing your real world experience and providing great advice on how to actually use the system effectively (hoses, connectors, blast gates, automation, and everything). Yours is some of the best content out there.
Thanks for the kind words! I have been doing some experimenting with a possible DIY solution for miter saw dust collection. If I figure it out I will probably make a video.

Fyi, leaving all blast gates closed won’t overheat the motor, it actually is not bad for it at all. The motor doesn’t have to work nearly as hard and draws less amps. There are several articles on this.
You probably want to leave at least one open, right?
I managed to buy a good dust extractor with several lengths of 4” hose for £50 ($62) from a local auction house here in the UK. I used 4” plastic drainage pipe and bends to duct it in the roof of the shop. The whole thing cost around£100 ($125!).
The only problem I have is that in the winter it sucks out the expensive heat from the workshop!

Really enjoyed your videos on the setup and review of the Laguna DC. I've had the Laguna 14bx bandsaw since April 2020 and each time I reached out to customer service via email, they always responded. They were very responsive when I had setup questions, as this was my first bandsaw ever. One time I lost a screw to the bandsaw throat plate and I called to understand how I could purchase more screws. Customer service said "no problem we will ship out a set of screws no charge". Not sure why my luck has been different but wanted to share my experiences with Laguna cust service has been spot on. Anyways, really enjoyed your video and I'm subscribed now.
Maybe I should have emailed them instead. They definitely aren’t too good with returning phone calls. I have the Rikon 14” bandsaw but that 14bx is way nicer. I’m jealous lol
@@BustedKnuckleWoodworks in thinking, when I purchased my bandsaw, COVID was not bad and all the stores were open. Maybe, COVID affected Laguna's cust service dept. Maybe they have different support teams for the bandsaws. I'm not sure and only pure speculation on my part, but as stated all my experiences was before everything shutdown due to COVID. I have not called nor emailed Laguna's cust service since 2020.

I have a Laguna bandsaw, spectacular tool, but I found the support from Laguna literally non-existent, I was surprised they sent you an email reply at all. I do not regret buying it but I would be very hesitant to buy anything else from Laguna. As to dust collection specifically, I am in the market for a new dust collector. I currently have a HF heavily modified dust collector, it has a larger impeller, Wynn filter, two stage etc., it works very well, but it is loud and while I will wait for it to die, I have been looking at the Laguna and Harvey brands as replacement. This review will definitely figure into my decision process, thank-you.
Thanks for the feedback! I suspected my experience with Laguna support was probably typical. I did look at the Harvey as well as the Oneida SuperCell, but both were a bit over my budget and power requirements. The Harvey certainly looks interesting though.

Great review! I will say, to play devil's advocate on the idea of no permanent dust collection piping, I'm a very lazy person. I'm a 1-man shop who builds custom furniture professionally. If I have to move the hose to each tool, I'll inevitably not do it lol. If all I have to do is open a blast gate, I'll use it.
I’m lazy too :) but my main concern was really mobility. I move my stuff around a lot because I shoot video in here. If not for that, I might have gone with the piping, but I still doubt it. 🙂
I had a similar experience with Laguana and converting my Pfulx 1 from 120v to 220v. After multiple attempts to reach customer service I finally made it to the support team to purchase the parts needed or so I thought. I purchased the 220 main board but was not made aware that I would also need a new breaker switch. After escalating to the manager I was sent the correct breaker via next day air.
Also their customer support department is located in SC and does not follow the sun.
That’s terrible. All I had was a couple of simple questions that could have been answered in 2 minutes. Don’t understand why they alienate their actual customers like this.
@@BustedKnuckleWoodworks in my opinion their perspective we are not a huge company spending millions on a dust collector as those support lines are always manned. I do love my pflux 1 and wished I bought the pflux2.
I really enjoy your videos. Your jury rigging of the iVac was a revelation. I've got a 115V 2 HP Wen dust collector i picked up pre pandemic for a little over 200 bucks. I've recently mounted it all a Dust Deputy with a 40 gallon galvanized trash can underneath. Like you,i got the DustRite hoses and I recently got the electrician drop me an outlet when she (yep) wired my car charger port. So, here's my question... Can you point me to a resource (website, diagram, or video) for the parts and configuration for the dust collector relay? Thanks for sharing! I subscribed.
There are a number of high-current relays that would work, but the one I used is the iVac Contactor, available directly from iVac - www.ivacswitch.com/ivac-contactor/ . There is a User Guide there that explains how it works and how to connect it. It's fairly easy to do, but if you don't feel confident doing electrical work, I'm sure you can get your electrician to wire it up for you. Good luck, and thanks for the sub!

I know my local wood supplier slash wood working tool business , won't carry laguna products because they are not good at customer support . I took that information and it help guid me in my decisions in my shop tooling.. So laguna may or may not make great tools but if they are so poor at supporting there products it caused me to choose other alternatives.
I’m sure they lose business because of it. I myself would think REAL hard before buying another Laguna tool because of that.

i am looking to get something for my shop AND my wife's Glass shop thinking of how to fix a downdraft table for her to cut the glass on !! still working on the shop itself now tho have a cyclone "to be put together" to start with thanks for the comprehensive review and set up process!!! PS the glass shed is NOT attached to the shop 50 ft over dirt....
How big of a downdraft table does she need? Maybe you could make one! A simple shop vac would provide enough suction for that I think.
Solid review, you covered basically every question I had. Looking at the 220v of this vs Jet and Oneida units. Do you find the cyclone is effective at separation? On my home made separator I get virtually no dust into the main chamber of my shop vac. These units seem to let more into the bag than I would expect.
The separation is really amazing on this unit, better than I expected quite frankly. I’d say the separation on the Jet is about as good. The Laguna is way easier to empty though, and is a more solid unit overall. The Mini Gorilla isn’t a bad unit either but to me it’s way overpriced considering it’s mostly plastic.
I use the rockler dust right fittings. Not as nice as izzy's. But I'm happy with them.
I’m working on my own improvement to the Izzy Swan fittings. A video on that will be coming soon.
I found with mine that it will not run on a 15amp 110 circuit. Hast to have 20amp circuit or more
Definitely if you have anything else on that 15A circuit it will pop the breaker. I measured and it draws about 60 amps on startup.
Thanks for the review. Do they do anything to help with the build up of static in the saw dust? My shop vac and cyclone set up for my DeWalt 735 builds up a ton of static and I get zapped pretty good when I empty out the dust.
There’s nothing specifically to address static but I have found static isn’t nearly as much of a problem with 4” hoses. Are you using a shop vac with 2.5” hose I assume? If so, and it’s working heavily, you definitely get some static buildup.

Thx for these videos. I’m glad I found your channel. I’m using an “old homer” system and it just doesn’t suck enough. What I mean is it sucks at sucking. Anyway, I’ve been on the fence for a dedicated dust collection system for quite a while. Initially I thought Laguna might be the answer but their record of abysmal customer service with you and others in the comments has me rethinking this. That being said, I have a couple of questions. The ease of canister removal seems great. However, if you have to lift the inner medal liner from a dust filled bag, doesn’t that create a huge mess? Can you use a heavy duty contractor bag instead of a pricey Laguna bag? Again, thanks for your videos. I’m enjoying your channel.
I always roll the whole canister outside before taking out the liner, then lift it very slowly. That said, the liner is totally optional - they even tell you in the instructions that it’s not required. It just helps keep the bag open is all.
I haven’t tried any other types of bags, but the Laguna bags are not that expensive when you consider that I’ve reused the same bag like 10 times or more.
