A few of my neglected blueberry pots. I hope to get some time to really care for my plants this year. This has been a very productive bunch for me so I would hate to let them go bad. Dallas Texas mid March. Weather is beginning to allow time for some yard work. Will keep you posted on these blueberries and more. Thanks for watching.

May 2013. A short update on the production for this year's corp. Grown in the Dallas TX area in pots to keep the soil acidic. I get about 5 to 10 lbs of blueberries a year. Very simple to grow once you understand that soil acidity is important. Find acidic soil, peat moss, feather meal, cotton seed meal, and fish meal, and mix in pine bark to help to well drain soil.

    I prune my weak branches & the ones that cross each other. By doing so they become stronger & get better air flow which also helps it against unwanted pests.

    I too live in the Dallas metro and have a lime tree. I bought it years ago at Costco and it is in a big pot on my backyard covered patio. It has never come inside and in the winter, I do cover it when its freezing temps. I get limes, lots of limes, every year. I also have a new lemon tree and orange tree. Those are young and did not have the house wall ( like the lime tree does) for a bit of heat and protection, so I brought them inside for winter. But if I do some re-arranging and they get bigger, I will leave them on the patio too ( although they are so pretty inside.). I think having the one house wall for the lime tree on the outdoor patio helps with keeping it warm and protected.

    I keep my Meyer lemons and Satsuma in the ground near San Marcos, Texas and New Braunfels but on a freeze night I get a work light and hang it in the tree close to the truck. They’ve always survived that way. Of course, We don’t get as cold as Dallas.

    Thank you for the video-update! My main goal this year is to eat more of my blueberries before the mockingbirds do... Kales, Collards, and several other cruciferous veggies also like the DFW winter months and typically taste A LOT better after we get couple of real cold days. Another plus, less bugs to worry about in the winter. For kids; check out Ground Cherries and Mouse mellons, they are fun, easy, and very tasty when eaten fresh.

    • @214noe
      @214noe 6 років тому

      Every citrus plant not native to the Dallas Texas climate will suffer some stress. Placing them indoors, rapping them with a cover, or adding lights too keep them warm are all ways to minimize the stress. I have found that for me keeping them in pots and transport them indoors in the winter works best. However, I have seen a couple of citrus do well planted in ground on the south facing wall of a home.

      Yes, about every 3rd or 4th day. If the soil was dry I would water lightly. Potted plants require less water during winter.

      WesleyAPEX Yes, I moved it inside my garage for the winter. Then brought it back out in the spring. I noticed very little stress damage this way. This plant produced about 30 large Meyer lemons this season. As a matter of fact it still has some lemons on it, and lots of blooms.

      Preston Turner This video was recorded spring 2016. Blueberries are native to North America they do very well with the cold weather. The direct dallas sun can hurt them more then a few inches of snow or sleet.

    • @214noe
      @214noe 7 років тому

      For my citrus plants I buy the specific potting mix, Walmart/homedepot/lowes should all have it. Its specific for cactus and citrus, its more expensive but as you can see the plants do well. Also, mix in a bit of potting soil about 1/3, this has worked well for me.
