I too live in the Dallas metro and have a lime tree. I bought it years ago at Costco and it is in a big pot on my backyard covered patio. It has never come inside and in the winter, I do cover it when its freezing temps. I get limes, lots of limes, every year. I also have a new lemon tree and orange tree. Those are young and did not have the house wall ( like the lime tree does) for a bit of heat and protection, so I brought them inside for winter. But if I do some re-arranging and they get bigger, I will leave them on the patio too ( although they are so pretty inside.). I think having the one house wall for the lime tree on the outdoor patio helps with keeping it warm and protected.

I keep my Meyer lemons and Satsuma in the ground near San Marcos, Texas and New Braunfels but on a freeze night I get a work light and hang it in the tree close to the truck. They’ve always survived that way. Of course, We don’t get as cold as Dallas.

I prune my weak branches & the ones that cross each other. By doing so they become stronger & get better air flow which also helps it against unwanted pests.

I noticed you planted it next to the air conditioner. That will actually throw cold air onto the plant during winter.

How often do you fertilizer / water?
Do you put it in a sunny spot indoors?
Do you move it outdoor during the day?
    Thanks for the video!

My satsuma is doing well. The citrus that I have in the ground do well with lots of mulch around the trunk and bundled nicely with burlap sack. However, the fruit production will be poor due to the cold texas winters. Just remember to plant them on the south facing side of your home to protect them from the north winds.

Thank you for sharing that video. I'm in North Dallas, we just had a long cold spell this year and was curious how your Satsuma in the ground did. I bought an improved Meyer Lemon from Costco last year & had it in the garage this winter too, took it out in Feb. It looks ok so far and flowering a lot.Not planning to let it fruit much, it still look skinny.

Where did you buy the Meyers Lemon in North Dallas?

Did it survive the severe snows of 2013 and 2014?

Yes, I moved it inside my garage for the winter. Then brought it back out in the spring. I noticed very little stress damage this way. This plant produced about 30 large Meyer lemons this season. As a matter of fact it still has some lemons on it, and lots of blooms.

When you take them into your garage in winter, how long do they stay in there? Do you have to take them outside once in a while? Did you have to heat the garage during winter like we had this year?

How long dose it take for the lemons to turn yellow ?

Aime Mora I believe they ripen at 6 to 8 months. It takes a while for them to turn yellow.

it has been a few years. were you ever able to plant this in the ground, or have you kept it potted?
also, do you know anyone who has successfully grown oranges around Dallas?

For my citrus plants I buy the specific potting mix, Walmart/homedepot/lowes should all have it. Its specific for cactus and citrus, its more expensive but as you can see the plants do well. Also, mix in a bit of potting soil about 1/3, this has worked well for me.
