Just how different is the R9 from the MT-09, from a tuning standpoint?
Переглядів 7 тис.28 днів тому

This is yet another example of our commitment to this platform as a whole, AND to our commitment of being the tuners with the highest quality ECU mapping ...

Hi Nate, Will you also execute a test with a Tenere 700 and a GYTR air box?
Love how the video says results but there's literally zero results in here
moar fyul meenz mroa fast
Have you been able to Dyno a 2025 cbr1000rr. Not fireblade
I don't want an air filter where I can see through two sides of the "filter" material. I'd be worried that the motor is going to be eating sand.
that's why its a prototype its not finished, its just for fitment reasons as stated in the video
@@AlphaDLimafirst of all that’s not what Nate said at all. He said that the production box would be made of carbon fiber but the performance would be the same. In order for the performance to be the same then the filter itself would have to be the same.
@@davidleonard8369 0:15 He legit says it’s a prototype and they sent it over for fitment testing lmao
@@davidleonard8369and the material doesn’t need to be the same at all to have the same exact performance, the k&n filter has different material than the stock intake on an mt07 and I asked him personally if that would make a difference and he says not at all.
@ duh! He also said that the only thing different from the production model is the material the box will be made from. Yes he said that it was sent to him to test fitment but he also said that performance would be the same as the production model. Maybe you don’t understand how airflow affects performance but in essence Nate meant that the actual filter media and its dimensions would be the same because if the production model is made Any different then the performance would be different making these tests virtually useless.
I think I’m gonna get this airbox. The Yoshimura airbox I have is just not cutting it🥲
I just did the Black Widow 200mm but I can not find an intake for my 2023 MT07. I will be sending the ECU out to you very soon!
How do you like the exhaust? I'm stuck between the 200mm and 230mm options 😅
@@proxyhx2075 It's nice! has a good sound and is still pretty loud with the baffle in.
Interesting little divot in torque and power around 8100 rpm on all the Dyno charts; any idea what might be the cause? I imagine it's not noticeable to the rider.
You're right, that is weird
It's essentially just "static" in the winpep7 data stream. If we further increase the smoothing of the graph, it disappears, but then you also lose resolution. In this case, it's nothing.
Crazy that it’s taken this long for someone to catch up to the horsepower system
Has there been any intakes made for the transalp 750? I remember you saying you were expecting some aftermarket intakes to be made for it
What’s the dip around 8K rpm ?.
It's essentially just "static" in the winpep7 data stream. If we further increase the smoothing of the graph, it disappears, but then you also lose resolution. In this case, it's nothing.
Fantastic there's another developer offering airbox for the -07. Got the exhaust tune video coming for the Z900? 🙂
Just sent my ECU in for you all to reflash. I'm stoked!!!
Im sending mine next week!
Why not something like the old days with carbs , velocity stacks and K@N filter for each ? Something like the old GS1000 and KZ10000 1980`s superbikes . Think a airbox with that much cut out is more of a filter holder ?!
Carbonsmith does that(3D printed v-stacks with MWR filter).
Pod filters? It's been tried and proven that intake flow efficiency is significantly better with an enclosed frequency chamber where the soundwave pulse traveling back and forth from the intake valve to the airbox has something to pressurize against, and the pulse frequency timing can be tuned for a specific RPM range where you intend to maximize flow efficiency through the throttlebodies. The principle is exactly the same as an exhaust system. For example, think of a two-stroke engine, where the expansion chamber location in the exhaust system has an effect in timing relative to engine RPM to affect cylinder gas flow. Without the chamber, there's no inversion-pulse return. An airbox is similar.
@@exothermal.sprocketbingo.
@@exothermal.sprocket That pulse is not the speed of sound in the intake, it is a pressure wave(pulse) caused by the air to piling behind the intake valve when it closes ( intake velocity 350mph or higher to 0 mph ) causing the pressure to spike up through the intake runner back into the airbox causing the air pressure to rise just in time for the next intake opening in different cylinder. Exhaust measurement is sound (MACH 1). The intake and exhaust pulse wave forms are totally different. Think: spike(exhaust pulse mach1 ) vs ocean wave(intake: is dynamic everything changes with engine speed, amplitude changes with frequency). with 540 degrees between firings volume is your friend and intake signal is negligible. PITOT tube time ? PS: ProStock 500 CID 2 valve 10,000 rpm is about 450 mph intake runner speed. Exhaust: MACH 1 is also a choke, pushing faster destroys engines.
@ I'm aware in exhaust systems there are separate waves. I know intake systems operate on similar principles, hence airbox and length-tuned velocity stacks and so forth. There's a lot of optimization that can be done to a naturally aspirated system before you'd turn to forced induction for additional power. Honestly I wish variable valve timing was becoming more common in motorcycle engines than it currently is.
What can be expected in terms of gains just by installing the air box, keeping the exhaust and ECU original?
PS for all the people who wonder, you can place an Akrapovic full exhaust line with double slipons from 2017 Ninja SX and it just fits perfectly. Then you have a double slip on Akrapovic on your motorcycle. Thank me later😁
is anyone aware of what are the differences between the 500 sold in europe and in US, in US they are claimed to hape 51 HP, but in europe are only with 45, is anyone aware i it's just software limitations or are there different parts mounted to the bikes?
Do similar for mt09 direct airbox delete
Dyno is just another tool in the box and in the end it is the monkey using the tool not the tool your paying for. DO you want a monkey who swings from tree's or handle bars ?!
Can we have a video with the standard air box modded? The trumpets on the inside of airbox cut back flush and a stage 2 dna kit, that would be an interesting comparison. Here in the UK the Hordpower wouldn’t be a great option with our weather 😢
WOW, what a wake up call to us sport riders. Thanks for sharing.
Guys, you need to update the GSX-8S/8R dyno graph on your product page on the website with the new 93 hp trace.
I have a mt 07 2023 living in Ireland would love to get it tuned by ye but worried sending ecu off to ye in the post tho how long would it be until I receive it back any idea
i dont trust motorcycle channel reviews anymore. this is the only place i will come to see how a bike actually performs out of the box
i finally see what i hated about my ninja 650
On the z900 the best dynotuner of Italy arrived to 140 WHEELhp with stock engine ua-cam.com/video/n8mMqjN8M1s/v-deo.htmlsi=pEp7JeBR2mqh1Kwh
😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
Man I sure wish you guys could tune the new Aprilia RS 457.
How does this affect all the throttle positions in every gear though? The purpose of the airbox isn’t just to filter particulates, it also reduces turbulent flow which restricts power. This intake just doesnt look like it had any real engineering put into it, just looks like a big air filter you’d slap on a carb’d bike.
On top of the power gains, it sounds terrific too! Nice work.
Give the throttle by wire will we be able to eventually program a quickshifter with auto blip into this and the R7 then? Been tracking fz09s, fz07s, and recently an mt09sp. Would love to have auto blip on the r7 and mt07 🤌
Is this airbox mod available for the r7?
Ol’n’good Honda tradition - they defines Fan on/off parameters as voltage of ECT sensor instead of temperature so that you need to search for damn unit conversion tables into assembly file with Ghidra if you want to do it right.
Picked up an intake from JD and paired with the 2wdw flash makes it a different beast, the throttle response is insane compared to my old setup with the dna filter and way too lean Moore mafia tune
Top work as usual, Nate! 👍
my man
Damn...this vid is making me want to go out and buy the new Zed just so I can purchase the tune !!
Nice, but why waste time tuning for a intake that's not made anymore and hasn't been made in a few years.
Hordpower is still making them, I just bought one. He does purchases by email.
I'm not sure where that myth start, but it isn't true at all. He still sells hundreds of them every year. You just have to email him directly to get one. He pulled them from his site years ago because demand far exceeded his manufacturing capability. He never stopped making them and/or selling them.
I got a 23 mt07 with a full m4 exhaust and hordpower intake with a 2wdw tune and all i gotta say is i love it. sounds so good with this combination and very strong even with me being 250#.
Nate, The airbox design has to do with emissions and noise requirements for the motorcycle to get it licensed. Regards, JE
We're well aware of why they designed it that way. That doesn't mean it was a good idea for performance (which is all we care about).
@ Nate , I am curious about the effect of an gytr air box on tenere 700. Did you test it already?
How the heck do you get hold of one of these intakes? I've been wanting one for years but I've never been able to order one from the hordpower website
Simply email him directly. All the info is on his site, Hordpower.com He pulled them from his site years ago because demand is far greater than his manufacturing capabilities. He still sells hundreds of them every year.
how can i contact hordpower for the intake? i heard to email him directly but whats his email?
His contact info is on his site. Hordpower.com
@@2wheeldynoworks Thank you!
Have you guys done any testing with Yoshimura’s intake box? I have one on my 2022 R7 and I love it.
Yes, we covered it on an R7 in a video when it came out a couple of years ago. It still didn't perform as well as a Hordpower intake does, and the filter materials' maintenance interval is shockingly short. If you aren't cleaning/oiling that foam every 8 hours of operation, you're sucking in dirt and other fine particulates.
Nice. When I buy my next bike I’ll definitely go with you guys!
Just got my 2025, these gains are nuts.
hell yeah, 30hp for last 750rpm is the gains.
Do yall do a tune for the Yoshi cams?
When you get into engine internals, no remote or mail-in tuning service will be accurate. That introduces variables that 99.99% of motorcycle owners cannot account for or control appropriately, such as properly timing the cams with the slotted sprockets. We have tuned countless CP2s over the years with varying levels of internal engine modifications on our dyno.
You guys are absolute fucking geniuses. I’m about to purchase the Kawasaki ZX 14 ECU flash. My son has purchased a ninja 1100, who’s about to put a full system on and order a flash. Years ago, I purchased a Yamaha MT 09 flash for the early year MT 09, we’re all the difference. Love the videos, keep up the great work. Two thumbs up.
Do you guys make maps for Delkevic exhausts? They cost a fraction of the big brands. Honestly paying $1000+ for a can and some stainless piping is robbery.
I'm sure they do. I put some delkevic headers on my z900. The fitment isn't as precise as the top brands but they do make good power and have quality materials.
Of course. We have custom mapping built for every intake/exhaust combination imaginable for the older bikes, and we will be going through that same extensive R&D process on the new 25+ models.
Most premium exhausts use titanium not just stainless steel, and the cost of raw materials is a lot higher than you think. Cheap exhausts may fit, but thats about it. A good exhaust brand actually does engineering to improve the performance. Also good-luck with customer service if something breaks on one of those shitty exhausts… you do you tho!
@ "if something breaks." It's an exhaust, it's not a Macbook. Nothing is going to break on your headers. Titanium vs steel, great, you're going to save a couple of cheeseburgers. Engineering? OK sure, you'll get something slightly more efficient that makes slightly more power, maybe. Delkevic can see what the Akra looks like and bend the same diameter pipes in the same places. It's still going to be way better than the stock system. $1200 vs $400 for 2 pounds and 1 horsepower...you throw that money down if it makes you feel better.
@@TheOriginalJadolph That's not true even the cheapest aftermarket exhaust will gain power if it fits properly. They don't need a lot of engineering to figure out that a little bigger diameter pipe, better collector and the cat removed will gain a good amount of power. I've used everything from aliexpress to akrapovic, Arrow, titanium, stainless, carbon ect. The most expensive options are really good and well made but the performance gain isn't anything more than the cheap exhaust can produce and if it does make slightly more power you can't feel it. On Harley motors the exhaust makes a big difference because it's all low end power.
