Watershed Overlook
Приєднався 25 кві 2021
Using my Kubota LX2610 to do some chores at our place in the heart of Virginia's Chesapeake Bay watershed. I'm likely to make some boneheaded mistakes along the way, so hopefully someone will benefit from my missteps. I maintain a mile long private road with my EA Wicked Xtreme 66" Box Blade, cut up things with chainsaws, work on boat projects, and more. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you hang around!
040 - Woodland Mills Stump Grinder | I Love it, BUT... | Father's Day Fun | 4K
I celebrate Father's Day this year by attacking one of the stumps that I specifically purchased the Woodland Mills WG24 Stump Grinder to tackle. But perhaps all is not smooth sailing at the Watershed Overlook, as I address some things about the WG24 that kinda' grind my gears!

That thing is a beast, were you using the camera to help position it? Oh yes moving and setting cameras makes the job take longer. PTO clip are ridiculous I always have issues with mine. Fighting the shaft is a pain. My PTO shield flips up and out of the way, makes it easier
I ordered the same size at the woods company, brand new and they delivered it to us for $1600. So far you spent over $1200 on a used one, plus I don't know how many hours you worked on it. You actually lost money with this used brush hog but you did a great job fixing it.
Thanks for watching Ashley. As to losing money on this, we'll have to agree to disagree. I've got roughly $1200 in a rotary cutter that is all new, except for the deck shell, which has some surface rust and faded paint, but is solid and straight. Charging myself for labor kinda defeats the whole idea of "sweat equity". So we have basically the same unit, but mine is not quite as shiny. As to your cutter, all I can say is that price is astounding. I can't find any listings for a new BrushBull 60 selling for less than $3,100. Whoever you bought it from...you better save their number! 😉👍
The sound is most likely just coil whine, but if it's getting too hot you should probably point a fan into it. Milwaukee seems to like letting their stuff get really hot.
Yeah...seemed to really only be a thing with the bigger batteries. I have a six-place charger now, so this charger only gets used sporadically. No meltdowns, so I guess it's all good! 👍😎
Sold my speedco quick hitch recently, it just gets in the way. The implements I use the most it can't accommodate, hydraulic stump grinder , ditch bank flail mower etc. Plus just something else to work around hooking up drive lines.
I expect you aren't the only one to make that decision! 😉 Thanks for watching. 👍😎
I SO felt your pain connecting that PTO, Chris!!! It brings out the sailor in me too, LOL.
LoL...Fred Roger's a sailor? Hard to imagine! 😉🤣
Beware using the tools for bush hog repair for other mechanical work. I bought a 1" impact wrench from Princess Auto. It promised 1000 ft pounds of torque. It was perfect for removing bush hog blades. It destroyed a wheel stud on my Porsche Cayenne, though. It also destroyed the bolts holding the control arm on a Tundra.
Agreed...right tool for the right job! Thanks for watching. 👍😎
I have the same lawn mower except mine is a 422. I sure do like mine. I really enjoy riding it. I like the Kawasaki motor too. Have a good day. ❤️✝️
Hi again, I believe you have the wrong sized coupler, (Part # E000050789 Hydraulic Hose Kit with 1/4" Valve Type Couplers). I order this part but the OEM hydraulic coupler for the LX are 1/2” and not 1/4”. Unless, for some reason your Kubota came with 1/4” coupler, may I suggest you correct this. The correct SKU is 67852, imo.
My rear remotes did come with 1/4" connectors. By chance, is yours a cab model? I think that kit may be 1/2".
@@watershedoverlook Yes, I have a cab model. I find that so interesting that the same model Kubota but with a cab is configured differently!
@luigiCarleo4911 I believe it's due to space. Your connectors are located in a different place than mine and the space is VERY tight. Too tight, in fact. You can see pretty clearly the issue in the two videos a out adding/improving hydraulics to my RB1672 Rear Blade. 👍 (Videos 029 & 030)
Great tune 🎶👍🏻...What stump...
I don't see no stump! 😉🤠🤣

Glad you enjoyed it Rodney, thanks for watching. 👍😎
Got same problem with our Dogwood trees I like stumps like that Tractors make life so much easier for sure Nice camera angle You can use that GoPro on IPhone to see where your at without leaving the seat 👍 Looks like you got the learning curve out of the way Nice Job 👍 I hate that PTO shaft type also Just like the one on my tiller Quick hitch gets in the way also Have a great weekend! I’m Laughing and Crying at the same time because I know EXACTLY what your going thru 😂
Thanks Phil...based on the feedback, it definitely seems like the complaints are pretty common! Have a great weekend. 👍😎
The stump grinder worked great! I was rooting for the FEL to just pop that stump right up on the first attempt. I hope you had a great father's day dinner!
Thanks Chad...I did indeed. A nice little place right on the water. And I didn't even have to PAY! (You know you're getting old when your kids take YOU out to dinner!)
Hi Chris, I was frustrated as well watching you install the grinder. Try using French cussing words like "sacrableux" 🤣I wonder if those PTO quick connect could help, Martin @DYI My Way installed one, video #175 ? Maybe adding a carabiner to that stiff clip would make it easier?. Just some suggestions Chris, Happy belated Father's Day 🙋🏼♂👍🏻🥃
Thanks Luc. Maybe "Merde!" as well?! I've been considering a small carabiner as well. Good thoughts. Also, happy belated Father's Day to you as well. Cheers!
@@watershedoverlook Merde works 😂👍🏻
Hey Chris. Had mine for about 4 years now. I use a cheap adjustable strap to suspend the shaft at the right height so I can use both hands. Also every time I install it I spray as much penetrant on the locking pin mechanism as possible! I don’t use my quick hitch with it so that might make it a little easier. And ya, the clip on the chain is serious!! Does a great job though…enjoy.
Thanks for watching Bruce. I like the penetrant idea! And I agree...it does do a great job, especially for its size and price point! 👍😎
Taking attachments on and off is always fun ..! Looks like it works well. Cheers 🍻 buddy
Thanks Ryan. The stump grinder works great. Me.....🤷♂️😉😆
@@watershedoverlook 😂
Good Evening Sir, that weed heater is a very strong one 💪👌👍😇 Ouff that stump was punky 🥴 That Stump Grinder Is Marvelous 😇👍👌💪 Yes that is very nice that hydraulic Top Link 😇👍💪 One Problem At The Time Safely 👍🧐👌The First Go ( That Is A Miracle 🤣🤣👍👍) You have such and OUTSTANDING Sense Of Humor Mon Ami 👍🤣👌What You Are You Talking About In This Video ? Stump What Sir 🤣🤣👍👍 Happy Father's Day Cheers 👍👌😇🍻
Lol...Thanks for the kind words David! Hope your Father's Day was excellent as well. Hope the covert project is progressing nicely. 👍😎 Cheers!
Chris I had to cut a couple of my PTO Shaft Plastic guards back some to get my hands in there. It is aggravating for sure! I'm not sure what is worse the button lock or the Collar Lock that you have to pull back. Good video. Hope you week is good.
Agreed Bob! Thanks for watching. 👍😎
I feel your pain! I am amazed that humans haven't figured out a better solution for transferring power to implements.. watch the cussing! 😂
LoL...you should have heard me the afternoon it took me 40 minutes! 🤬🤬🤬 On second thought, best you didn't. 😉
@@watershedoverlook been there done that while trying to connect my Tiller!
I use Pat's Quick Hitch and there is a lot more room to get into the PTO hookup without the top link and quick hitch frame in the way. Love my WG24 grinder. I do take as much of the horizontal sway out as possible so the grinder is less prone to jumping around when grinding. Plus, when I take mine off, I place a 4x4 under the back of the grinder to hold the blade off the ground so I can turn it to align the shaft if needed. I've ground probably close to 200 stumps with mine.
That 2x4 idea is a good one. I'm going to look into adding one to the dolly it rests on. Thanks. 👍
Hey Chris! Yes that thing eats wood very well. Ah yes the continuation of being annoyed with three point attachments. I suffer from the same affliction. lol. Thanks for the video! Cheers, Mike.
Thanks Mike. It's definitely a thing! 😎👍
Yep I had the same problem with my tiller on my bx, me and the sawsall took care of that issue!!
Thanks Chris...I see that in my future as well!
LOL! I have a few with the same issues - the clip tension is nuts and man, shafts with a long boot! You said it. Drives me crazy trying to reach in and around to try to connect. Great job on the stump! Cheers Chris! Happy belated :))
Thanks Gord. It's good to know it's not just me...I'm not alone!!! 😉😎👍 Have a great weekend. BTW...looking forward to the dragonfly review video! 😆
@@watershedoverlook LOL! Spoiler alert. Nope. Doesn;t work.:) LOL!
@watershedoverlook, hey Chris! Great to see you back out on the LX again! One thing I thought of, that I actually picked up from @gpoutdoors (thanks, Gord!!), was have you thought about an overrun clutch? Gord did a great video explaining the use for one, and it's benefits, including about 4" - 6" extra length from the output shaft, and reduced wear and tear on the tractor during deceleration of the implement. May be worth looking into. I'm awaiting delivery of an MX9900 wood chipper for the back of my 3310, and I bought an overrun clutch for that, as it has a 225 lb flywheel. Of course if you do get one, you'll have to check and potentially cut your PTO shaft a little. Good luck Chris, and take care! -Tyler
@tylerd4522 Thanks Tyler. Actually, I do have an overrun clutch (that I purchased for an attachment that I bought but haven't talked about on the channel). I did consider using that, although I'd need to recheck the shaft length. Thanks for the suggestion. 👍😎
@@watershedoverlook understood Sir, I hope I didn't ruin a surprise! 😉 So I actually live just a bit north of you, in the King George/Dahlgren area. It'd be nice to meet you someday, Sir! Take care, and stay cool in this heat!
Have you had any issues with the loader joystick as far as response time, jerkyness, or binding ?
None to speak of...overall I've been really impressed with its smoothness.
I just bought the same mower this week. It’s my first zero turn so there’s a bit of a learning curve. I also bought a B2301 in 2020.
Excellent. It doesn't take much time to get up to speed on the ZTR basic operation, although you definitely do get better with some experience. I think you'll very quickly decide you should have made the jump a long time ago! Enjoy!
Nice I need oneNice! I really need one.
If you do, you'll love it!
All I wanted to know was how to put the spout thingy onto the motor thingy ……. Why didn’t they put assembly instructions in operator manual? Not very straightforward as suggested in this video? I just can’t seem to get it. (Straightforward)
If I remember correctly, I first attempted to insert it upside down. It's been a while, but I think it just shoves in?
That’s a great deal to also have piece of mind. You can’t even buy a “disposable” mower for $1200, so you did awesome! Just Say’n 🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸
Thanks. I used it for hours this weekend. I do feel like it was money well spent!
I'm waiting for my new tractor to be delivered, now I bet you saved me from doing that very same thing. I'm sure others have done the same thing. Thank you for that tip.
Congrats on the new tractor...I expect you're gonna' love it! Thanks for watching. I'm glad you found it helpful! 👍😎
Great video, thanks
Thanks Scott. 👍😎
How does it cut? I keep hearing how great these mowers are but every video that seems to be out there in regards to these mowers are a couple years old. So thank you for making your video.
I've probably got about 10 hours on it, and as far as I'm concerned it cuts fantastic. I've cut some tall stuff, as well as lawn grass and been happy with both. Like with any "tall stuff" (i.e. at the Overlook when I hadn't been there in about 5 weeks, grass was literally 24" tall in some places) you need to make a couple of passes because the grass just lays down. On "normal" cutting...it's miles ahead of my old Toro. I'm planning on a review once I've got a bit more hours under my belt. Thanks for watching. 👍😎
I have one in a 422 and it cuts awesome.
Congrats, Evan!
Thanks for showing this we all have these little issues but most videos edit them out. Nice to see a real world video. Makes my decision to buy one easier.
Thanks. So far it's a great unit! 👍😎
Does anybody else make something similar? EA is more or less out of business right now. Maybe they’ll be back if their legal issues get resolved, but who knows if or when that’ll be.
Yeah, the EA situation is a real bummer. A lot of folks left without jobs in a pretty small town. I seem to recall seeing something vaguely similar...maybe in another UA-cam video, but I have searched online and have had no luck finding it again. I think it was an OEM part on a different brand rotary cutter, but I can't be sure. Sorry I can't be more help.
Congratulations Evan! Thanks for the give away Chris!
Congratulations to the winner 👋😎👍
Congrats Evan
Good Morning Sir, ( Very Nice Green Tractor 🤣👍) Congrats To Evan Collins 👍👍😇All My Prayers For Jet 🙏🙏😌

Congrats Evan 👍🏻
Good afternoon Chris! Congrats to the winner!!!
What size hydraulic couplers are on your tractor ? I had the two rear remotes added to my LX3310 from the dealer when I bought it. They are 1/4 inch. Are yours 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch ?
Mine are indeed 1/4" couplers. I would prefer 1/2, but I don't think there is enough clearance at the ROPS to allow for them. If you look at my videos #029 and 030 you'll see what I'm talking about. Best of luck Todd, appreciate you watching. 👍😎
Good video. Thanks for the details.
Thanks for watching! 👍😎
You need a “Stripe” kit for that new mower.
It does a pretty decent job of striping right out of the box! If I put a kit on it, it might be so good I can't stand it! 😉 Thanks for watching. 👍 😎
Get a 3rd function and grapple
Yeah, both definitely on the list! Thanks for watching. 👍 😎
Nice machine👍
Thanks Len, I'm really enjoying it!
Great overview - I have the exact machine bought last year. I added a custom seat cover, trickle charging adapter to the battery, ball/chain loop tow mount, thick rubber floor mat and a Kubota maintenance lift jack to mine. I really enjoy using it, more than my tractor mower.
Sounds like you're decked out pretty nicely Ronald! The difference between this and my old Toro Timecutter is just night and day...I'm loving it! Thanks for watching. 👍😎
Nice mower! You clearly did your homework. Congrats!
Thanks man...I'm loving it! Have you been shopping??? 😉😎
@@watershedoverlook Not yet, but I'm impressed with the Kubota line of zero turn mowers.
