2024 - 08 Nature & Birds of Japan (Woods & Forest)
#JapaneseNature#Birds#Insects#ForestScenery#
This video has been filmed at the end of July in 2 locations: the prefecture of Nagano, in the fields & woods, and the prefecture of Yamanashi in the forest both places being in the North of Tokyo (distance from 120 to 130 km from the outskirts of the capital).
Both places share forest & woods with a lot of streams. It is the ideal place for being cool when below, the temperature goes from 34°C to 38°C or more.
With a variety of trees depending on altitude, the species of birds and berries change. It was surprising to still find small cherry-like berries at the end of July.

Good morning. I've been enjoying watching scenes that start with the sunrise early in the morning; it's been very soothing. The Daurian redstart has become a bird that can be seen even in summer now, hasn’t it? I’m thinking about going out for a shoot myself, but it might be crowded due to the summer holidays, so maybe I’ll go next week. It's been hot every day-please take care of your health.

@@NikkoWildBirds Hello!👋 ! Thank you so much for writing. Yes indeed it’s preferable to avoid Obon especially in Nikko! You will have more people than birds! ジョウビタキare spending their summer in Japan it seems as I saw them in Nagano and the higher plateau of Yamanashi. I totally missed the キビタキthis year. I heard them quite a lot singing but…impossible to find them. If you want to take time out Senjogahara will be full I’m sure. Better find less famous plateau and try your luck: there are young birds now everywhere in suitable habitat and temperature. I mean in Tokyo it’s totally impossible to find anything. But quiet forest with water in Gunma or Nagano should bring you something. Flycatchers seem to love waterside. I can’t wait to see what you will film this time ! Very good luck and avoid the heat: it’s dreadful ! Very best wishes and thank you 🙏 !👋👋🙋🏻‍♀️‼️

Plants are a hobby of mine like butterflies and dragonflies but indeed it’s difficult to learn so many foreign names so I make lists that I keep on a hard disk. Animals are easier as there aren’t so many. And for birds, well I have been a birdwatcher since 1989 when I was living in the UK. I have to get the Japanese right but because it’s not written in Japanese characters I don’t know what the Japanese make of the line of explanation. This manner of writing exists in Japan and is called romaji but I don’t know that many people bother to read it. With a French PC it’s just impossible to print in characters. Next time I change PC I will endeavor to find a Japanese PC that goes in all languages : they can do it I am sure. I really thank you for your kindness and hope everything is fine around you. Little grebes fortunately can live on water shrimps. The Japanese sparrow hawk was a surprise. They are birds that you never see, very fast moving and small. Otherwise the vegetation is purely Japanese with no foreign flowers which is rare in parks. Thank you again! I wish you a good month of August!🙏🙏😊😊🕊️🕊️‼️

What a wonderful place, thanks for bringing it to life for us. Interesting to compare your Amur Stonechats with our Stonechat Saxicola Torquata. Your Bush Warbler seems to be as reluctant to be seen as our Cetti's Warbler but has a very melodious call. I imagine it's fairly tough going up there so well done for persevering to bring us this record.

@@johnluk Hello and thank you indeed. It’s easy going to the wetlands if you have a car. Afterwards it’s boardwalk. The problem : it’s narrow and only cameras are allowed ( no tripods or monopods). It’s very well marked and cordoned so that you can’t step out of the board walk . Besides it’s altitude wetlands (very rarely birds in the water). It’s great for insects and flowers. The Japanese bush warbler hates being seen in the open. You hear it in many degrees of altitude but seeing one long enough for filming is just luck. I was very interested by your video with the marsh harrier flying. Really this Goldcliff RSOB reserve is amazing with its wetlands and so many birds even in summer. And thank you for the flowers as well: it was great. I hope your month of August will be bearable temperature wise. Very good luck and health.👋👋😊😊🙂🙏🙏‼️

The little grebe with chicks on back have a lot of fans with photographers. I had to cut the sound of their voices and cameras. They come every time and love to watch also how they are fed soft water shrimps. There is fish but it’s too big for a small bill. The park goes back to last century and there are 2 empty houses dating back to I don’t know when. It’s planted with only Japanese flowers and trees which I think is a good point. Thank you for your videos. There are always great and full of birds we all would like to see. I wish you fair weather but not too hot. 1 more month of summer birds and then it will be autumn. @@johnluk Thank you indeed. The weevil was taken with a p1000 which explains its clarity. There’s a lot you can do in macro with a p1000 but it’s difficult using a tripod of course. Insects here are very varied, depending on the altitude. But monsoon isn’t the best season though as the light is sad and it rains buckets. Birds were busy hiding and yes the Japanese bush warbler is all the time heard in the mountains where there are short trees but as you say it skulks. The female hears it though and if her mind is on it she perches nearby. Still since both sexes are alike and she doesn’t sing it’s impossible to see her except for sheer luck. And since the little guy is polygamous it has nothing to do with nesting so yet another reason not to see both male and female. There were 3 wetlands and the most famous is full of flowers and butterflies but the weather was not good. I will upload it today or August will be there before I finish checking all the botanical names. Very good summer to you and I hope the various RSPB reserves will have interesting summer visitors.🙏🙏😊😊👋👋‼️
