In 2019 hit 53 HR and cost 555k, 2021 Pete hit 37 HR and cost 676k. 2022 40 HR and cost the Mets 7.5 Million. 2023 Pete hit 46 at 14.5 million. 2024 Pete finally get paid with a 20 million pay and hit 34 hr, The Mets paid Pete what he was truly worth once in the last 5 years. Take those dollars you saved on Early Pete and pay the Polar Bear.

Signing Soto and losing Alonso is practically a draw. Pete Alonso has 25 more hrs over Soto in the last 4 yrs. 46hrs in '22 40hrs in '23. Soto 1 41hr year gets plus 800 million. Alonso probably about to hit 42hrs for Toronto. As a Dodger fan, next Mets Dodgers rematch with no Pete is a huge relief. Lindor /Soto/ Alonso would have been elite.

It really feels like Boras is fighting at this point for his own reputation and evidently rather delicate amour-propre. You’d’ve thought that the Soto win would be enough. And evidently he’s been filling Alonso’s head with the promise of ice cream castles, tangerine dreams & marmalade skies. As one of your Dodgers faithful, it’s clear to me now that after what happened last year, Blake Snell must’ve given Boras strict orders to get a good deal done ASAP. Knowing Andrew Friedman, that possibility had probably occurred to the Dodgers, hence the surprising speed of the agreement (not even a month after the WS).

It seems Flaherty was not committing, hoping that if the Dodgers didn't get Sasaki, they'd have him back. He really wanted to return to the Dodgers. He grew up in LA and lives there. It doesn't seem like he desires to go elsewhere. He would be a good get for the Mets, but would his heart be into it?

Flaherty still unsigned at the end of January is mindboggling. He's willing to take a short deal. Jack should have been signed by someone right after Sasaki was announced. The Yankees nearly traded for him back in July, but pulled out after a failed physical. He didn't miss a start with the Dodgers. I would be disappointed to see Flaherty sign elsewhere (he's a SoCal native), but he would fit in nicely with any club and any rotation. Especially the Mets.

This from a Dodger fan - Jack will be great signing for you guys. I wouldn't want to face him in the playoffs as he will have something to prove.

I'm with Cohen on his remarks about the negotiations. I also think in the end he re-signs Pete. The Mets will need someone, probably even 2 more hitters, especially one to protect Soto, if not Soto will see nothing good to hit.

Life long Dodgers fan here. I would have liked to see Flaherty come back to the Dodgers, I think he's a heck of a pitcher. I wish him all the best wherever he goes. BTW he could do a lot worse than signing with the Mets. I do feel like he would do well playing in Queens.

yes yes yes ok, but how does this affect the Dodgers?

I don't hear anybody suggesting anything like this anywhere, so I might be an insane person, but I think sticking McNeil on 1B should be the plan B. He's filled in there before, it's consistent w/ his one major defensive liability being a below average throwing arm, we don't need his utility anymore in the outfield or middle infield, and this would open up room for signing Iglesias to a cheap 1-year contract and/or giving reps to guys like Acuna and Mauricio.
