The real reason why you feel 'stuck'.
Do you crave feeling more in control of your time and energy?
Wish you knew exactly what to do every time you felt ‘stuck’?
Laws of expansion and contraction govern our universe - that includes you!
We all want more certainty in our lives. We all want more predictability when it comes to our moods. Understanding your cycles of energy will give you that, and so much more.
Cyclical energy is a superpower…when you know how to use it.
In this video, I share how to reclaim the gifts in your contracted states, get free of stuckness and revolutionise your productivity by letting your body lead.

Further thoughts (in response to Hazel Thea’s question, "how do we prepare for contraction?")
First, let’s bust the myth that the contraction is a place of weakness. Nothing could be further from the truth: your contracted states are your MEDICINE and your FUEL.
What do I mean? Let’s look at some examples:
It is through the process of contraction that a muscle gets stronger: an athlete's performance is dependent on how well they rest rather than how hard they train. Without rest, muscles cannot grow in strength or resilience - they wear and tear and injure easily. A muscle contraction is the body’s way of saying: Stop! Time for rest and recovery.
If there's no contraction of grief or heartbreak, there's no healing. Without healing, those psychic wounds will keep causing injury to your relationships for years or decades to come, just like an injured muscle.
An economic contraction provides necessary market and value corrections; a business contraction offers a chance for leaders to see opportunities that would have otherwise been invisible; a creative contraction allows you to hear deeper wisdom and insights that will generate evolution and growth.
In this way, contracted states give us the energy and the wisdom to grow, evolve, strengthen and expand bigger and further with each cycle. We only fear them because we are deluded that productivity only involves the visible "action" part.
PREPARATION
How to prepare for a contraction:
- Adjust your expectations: this season will require different measures of success.
- Don’t self-attack: many people waste the medicine and fuel of their contracted states by fighting it all the way, exhausting themselves.
- Go gentle on yourself: this is a period of refuelling, not rushing.
- Get support from your friends, colleagues and community (I dream of a world in which those in expanded states carry the ones who are contracted, and then switch)

I like to break the rules in my job. I'm a school teacher in a secondary school. 🤣 - It's a Thai school and I'm not Thai. Sometimes I push the boundaries of working in a (to me) conservative environment. I also have total freedom in what and how I teach in this job. I can't work in a school with a standardised curriculum.

I'm an ENFP Rebel and an HSP, which has been challenging to say the least. It's frustrating for me, it frustrates my family--parents, husband, even my (grown) kids, friends, everyone. I'm also a creative person--I'm a writer, I paint, I do a bunch of other things, but AS SOON AS someone asks me to do any of those things, which I LOVE, or wants me to join an accountability group or what have you, I immediately don't want to do them. As an example, I wrote and published 13 books and short stories, but as soon as people started really encouraging me to write more or asking for particular stories to get written, I quit. I didn't discover that I love painting until I was in my late 40s (my oldest badgered me into going to a Paint & Sip with her, and it was fantastic.) I don't necessarily have any real talent in it, but I absolutely love it. Naturally, I immediately bought every book I could find on painting, I think I bought almost every tool and type of paint that exists. I dove in hard. I started painting every single day, I painted gifts for everyone because I was so excited about it. My mom loves birds, so I painted some for her, which--to my surprise and pleasure--she really loved. Then she asked me for a series of specific birds. Four years ago. I still have not done them. In fact, I stopped painting pretty much all together. Part of that was logistics--trying to find the best place in the house (it was driving me and my husband both crazy to have my stuff all over the kitchen table), to get my stuff organized, etc., then we redid our floors and the house was in turmoil for nearly a year. I have almost completed my new craft room and truly cannot wait to get back to painting now, but I have that bird series hanging over my head. I'm going to do my best to make that my first project and get them done, then I am never taking another request for as long as I live. I lovelovelove the idea of the jar and pulling tasks out as little surprises instead of--or in conjunction with--a (small, targeted) to-do list. I've tried for years--decades, really--to develop routines, schedules, systems that will work for me, and I'm a master at designing them. Following them is an entirely different matter. But the jar sounds like fun. Something that has been working really well for me is creating the absolute lowest barrier to entry to whatever task I need/want to do possible. This was adapted from the book Tiny Habits. Make it so stupid easy that you almost can't NOT do the thing. So for the walking habit I wanted to develop, all I have to do is walk for three minutes every day. I CAN walk as long as I want, but the habit is to walk every day regardless of length of time, speed, distance, whatever. Sometimes I do only walk for three minutes, sometimes I walk for four hours, sometimes at 4 AM before going to bed to get it in, but I always get it in. But the key is I walk every single day, and I did make it part of my identity, as you mentioned in the video. I am a person who walks every day. The details of the walking don't matter. I have walked every single day for almost a year now. Because I never stopped or quit, I never had to restart or get back on the wagon or any of those things that trigger my rebelliousness. I make it fun by walking with my eyes closed (on the treadmill, holding the rails) and listening to my favorite 80s rock playlist, which I consider my theme songs. Every one has a personal message for me. I put cuticle oil on my nails, lotion on my hands, and wear gloves, I put an oil or scalp treatment on my hair, wear a super lush lip balm, etc., to make it a little bit of a pampering spa experience. Afterward, I take a bubble bath when I feel like some extra pampering. I finally feel like I'm learning to work WITH myself instead of against myself as I have my whole life. I've also learned to stop listening to what everyone else tells to me to do or try. I'm 56, but it's never too late!

I’m over 60 and recently retired. I can look back over time and see now exactly what worked when I’ve been most successful in life. It wasn’t planning and organizing. It was being inspired, passionate and in tune with getting what I wanted. I’ve heard it said that success is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration, but now I’m sure that is not true for me. Plowing through the work is not that hard when I’m in touch with the drive that wanting something gives me. Definitely a rebel with a cause situation. Such a helpful video! Thank you!

Hello, I'm a younger rebel (31 years old). Can I ask you, looking back in your life, how did you find your passions at times when it felt like you've lost all your passion? I spent my 20's working hard to defy everyone's expectations of me. I had great passion about something and what fueled me as a rebel, was that almost everyone was against me. Either "you can't do that" or "you shouldn't do that" or "you're just dreaming" and was met with a lot of rejection on the way, but in the end, I'm here, I've made it despite everything. My problem is ... after actually reaching here, achieving the thing I dreamt about since I was 18, challenging the world to reach here. I'm suddenly finding myself ... lost!! I'm already bored, I've lost my passion for what I'm doing (after years of trying to achieve it) Literally the moment I reached there I was already bored. People suddenly were clapping for me, suddenly are impressed by me, I even became a national celebrity in my country, even my parents became proud of me. But for some reason I hated that recognition so much. I now feel lifeless and confused. Without a cause, without a passion. It felt like kept going against everything everyone had expected of me to the point where I'm now at the 'nowhere'. I miss my old self. The kid that believed in themselves so much, that kept going forward. Now it feels like yea I'm there, I reached my goal, now what? I'm bored. I don't want anything else anymore. I became a very lazy person. I became my worst self. I just wake up every day for nothing, heading to nowhere. No passion what so ever. I don't know what to do next.

I literally just received my very expensive, beautiful 2024 daily planner, only to realize that planning and scheduling turns everything into drudgery for me. I really thought that if I just got organized and figured out a system for everything, I would finally get where I wanted. No wonder I’m over 60 and still trying to figure things out. Luckily, I don’t waste a lot of time or energy rebelling against others anymore, just against myself. I need to honor my authentic self and make life fun again!! I am a high achieving rebel, so it’s not like I can’t do what I determine to do. Very helpful video, thank you!

I always thought I was an obliger or even upholder so I was surprised that any of the strategies for these types did’t work for me. As I’m guessing now, I am a rebel by nature who adopted the habit of people pleasing. It seems like if I let myself relax and let things flow naturally, I will disappoint everyone and that thought scares me tremendously. I’ll try to nurture this part of myself from now on and try to see good that comes from it.

I take a month or two off every year, usually near the holidays. Yes, I quit jobs regularly. Couldn't care less. Since the US doesn't give ppl REAL time off at work, I take it anyway. Employers really don't care--if you have experience they'll hire you. I work in social services so burnout is REAL. And it's a big reason turnover at nonprofits is so high.

  • @Jendidy

This is an interesting way to frame what I think may be, at least for me, a high need for autonomy and a tendency to experience psychological reactance, especially in regards to social norms (and especially social norms for women) that don't make sense to me. I'm returning to school at midlife to study psychology and I'm currently dealing with a lot of psychological reactance against having to take the GRE. (I took a class in psychometrics, so I know _why_ the GRE is required, but I think this it's a poor predictor for an odd duck like me, who has already worked in research (in a different field) and, as who, as a professional software engineer, is really good at the analytical reasoning stuff, if I'm not under too much time pressure.) I really struggle with seemingly arbitrary administrative rules, so having to take the GRE is just getting under my skin to the Nth degree. I haven't found an effective way to get myself to study for the GRE yet. But I can totally feel the "I'll prove them wrong if it's the last thing I do!" Rebel cry as I construct my plan B scenarios (if my GRE scores are terrible, I'll relocate anyways and just audit graduate-level classes and volunteer as a student assistant until the professors have no choice but to admit me). ...sigh...Now, if only I could crack the code for rebelling against having to work for a living. Seriously, it's the "having to" work that spoils it. I'd be SO happy volunteering for the job I have now (it's related to helping public health officials manage COVID outbreaks), if only I didn't "have to" work ....sigh....

I've always had really large aspirations, but they would just fizzle out when I shared them because I felt like they became other people's expectations, not my own. It's very difficult sometimes because I want to celebrate victories with people and also not share my goal in fear it won't be mine anymore
