On a recent livestream show, I had a great questions presented about what makes a great blitzer in the NFL. Return of the Kickoff

For years the NFL relegated the kickoffs to automatic touchbacks and recently, fair catches. A new rule change is setting up kickoffs to be refreshed, and the Seahawks this offseason seem to be anticipating the return of the kickoffs with two dynamic kick returners on their roster in D'wayne Eskridge and Laviska Shenault. 2024 Breakout: Noah Fant The Pro Bowler?
When all else fails. I say ……… LETS RIDE
As a former DB, I can tell you that defense is WAY more complex than offense. There is so much you can do on Defense, so much. Offense, you can only run so routes and their concepts. You can shut down an offense faster than blowing up a defense.
What did W say? “Bring ‘em on!”? 😂
This will probably go unread and be a waste of time but I still say that PC deserved the last year of his contract. And people, regular fans, can say what they want, but when you're building something, or a team in this case, winning and losing actually aren't the major indicators of success. I think PC saw the development of this team from his role down as his legacy project and I think his target for success was going to be this year, the 2024 season. In fact, given all the injuries we had last yeat on both sides of the ball, it was insanely great coaching that got us to even 9-8. Also, our youth, which is going to be great, were obviously still in early development and those are just growing pains and perfectly well expected. It may be true, and we shall see soon, that PC was old fashion or stuck in his ways or whatever, but there are two things that will never change in this game at the NFL level and that is the size of the field and the time on the clock for each quarter and THESE are the factors that need to be managed and game planned for. As far as the coordinators go, it was just obvious that they were both new and learning themselves, and I'm sure PC, at his level of coaching, saw himself as their stewards and guides as well, so were they making mistakes? ..of course, but that's what happens when you're new at something. I know Waldren wasn't a new OC but let's be real, he, if he WAS making the offensive calls in LA, he, was making them for Sean McVay and was never given the reigns himself, or at least not fully. And it's of note that both of those guys (Waldren and Hurrt) were hired elsewhere pretty fast in this league as soon as they got fired and we can't say that for Norton Jr. or Darrell Bevell, who by the way, is just the friggin QB's coach for Miami right now. Waldren, in Chicago, will have a fantastic opportunity to develop a new QB and offense and right now he has probably the best WR tro in the league, so he's not going anywhere soon. For all the faciness and shifting of Mike Mac's defense, it had a weakness and that was runs up the middle. So, if teams had a really great solid run game with great blockers, and if they have a defense able to expose Baltimore's offensive weaknesses, then hiis defense can be beaten, and this was PC's core model as we all know from 2013-2014, which he'd been building since he got here in 2010. To say that PC wasn't evolving isn't really accurate because this is a copy cat league and at any point it could DEVOLVE or evolve back to a PC model of team development and at that point we're now talking about a guy like Mike Mac who isn't evolving with the times.
Im really glad you clipped this because i was working and didnt get a chance to respond. The reason i asked this is because shannahan and mcvay are some of the brightest offensive minds in the league and i thought facing them both 2 times a year might speed the process up of figuring it out. I think you bring up some really good points that changes my opinion on that because of the evolving and unpredictable nature of what McDonald wants to do. Also i think youre right about the defense being tailor made to attack 49ers. McDonald is gonna be shannahan kryptonite 😂😂 thanks for the well thought out and deep response. Awesome content as always
Macdonald is gonna take us places in the future and I’m so excited for it 🙏🏽
Ironically Anthony Richardson is shown being tackled by a Tennessee Titan player, when the colts was supposed to draft Will Levis lol. Bet their kicking themselves for that one. Levis is probably going to end up being one of the most productive quarterbacks in the league, and Anthony Richardson just isn't a good quarterback. He is an impressive athlete with an arm, but as far as being a quarterback I never seen him being what people thought he was.
Bryce Young treatment
Macdonald is why I think our defense will dominate
Number 93 was his own cousin from ucla😂
I have a good feeling that we can finally stop the Rams and 49ers in Mike Mac Donald Era Go Hawks!!!!!!!🤩👍🏻💙💚😃
Heck yea go hawks 💙💚💚💙 👍🏻
@@chadhart8486 Go Hawks!!!!!!!🤩💙💚👍🏻😃
I was relieved the last two drafts. I feared a reach for Anthony Richardson and then I feared a reach for JJ McCarthy. The only QB that I truly wanted was Penix. I think Richardson has way more upside than McCarthy but requires much more grooming as well. I think Penix will be better than both. I think Geno's arm is every bit as live, but Penix comes with the rookie deal. I think Penix is going to be a really good one. Now that the team got Sam Howell, I am totally fine with their QB situation for the foreseeable future. Especially when considering how Murphy fell into their lap. It really was the best outcome.
Do you think that if Lumen Field is too loud, it might make it too difficult for our defense to communicate with each other; and significantly hurt our defensive performance at home?
That’ll be interesting to see, I think that might be difficult in the beginning but will be figured out as the season goes on.
Should’ve been fired immediately after the horrible calling the Super Bowl, most of us haven’t recovered from that
And the tape
I remember when we used to say "Tank for Levis" 😂😂😂 also "Raw dawg mayonnaise" 😂😂😂
I’m glad Pete Carroll is finally gone otherwise we can’t win games that we should have won and it’s gonna be the same same performance every year I’m happy we have Mike Mac Donald I’m so pumped and excited for the season Pete Carroll and his coaching staff is getting too old I’m very happy we got a younger head coach Mike Mac Donald who we need a winning organization Thank you so much Hawks nest you’re Awesome and my favorite Go Hawks.🙂💙💚💙💚👍🏻

Gorillas eat banana skin, but they eat it separate from the fruit. Sort of like eating the cream center of an Oreo cookie before eating the biscuit wafer. This dude doesn't even follow gorilla rules.
I hope that banana thing was a one-time “I dare you” kind of thing.
Gross
Can’t wait to watch the position battles
Both of them together would have been legendary.
Go Hawks.
Pete was great but didn’t evolve in play calling, also kept too many staff on that needed to go.
Technically, Pete didn't call the plays, Hurtt and Waldron did. Pete couldn't fix the issues plaguing the team. We don't know who deserves most of the blame just yet, though. We will find out more this year about Waldron, Hurtt is just a defensive line coach for the Eagles, so we won't find out much about Hurtts' abilities as a defensive coordinator.
@@ryanball2754 But we also saw a carousel of coordinators throughout Pete’s tenure between 2015-2023. Pete’s influence with outdated schemes on both sides of the ball led to play-calling demise for coordinators.
@JTRob98 I'm not so sure about that. It's possible, but we had a top 10 offense I believe the first half of the season last year and there was a 4 week span where we had the #1 Defense but they just couldn't get them at the same time and it all just fell apart the second half. It could be Pete's fault, but it very well could be the in-game playcallers, which was not Pete.
Pete Carroll was too loyal to his coordinators that were not getting the job done! I’m glad he’s gone 👋
Ya I blame the coordinators more then Pete . Neither of them could adjust when there gameplans went to poo. Pete seemed to lose his sense of urgency. Press conferences after losses seemed like Oh well . I think J/S has done a great job addressing needs fixing problems personell wise and brought in what appears to be a great coaching staff. Time will tell.
@@JackSparrow-yl8myAnd Pere picked those guys. Hurtt will be lucky to ever get another DC job -- he was terrible. That's all on Pete.
@@ChristopherMHeaps Hiring then not firing them is on Pete . It cost him his job. I am in full agreement with how terrible the d/c was.
That was perfectly said, my man and I believe you’d be 100% correct loving the cat chilling up there by the way!
The league had changed and in my opinion not for the better. You're telling me guys like Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick can't get it done? OK then that's a league I don't want to be a fan of and dislike where it's going.
Look at the wins and losses. It's so simple 😂
@@ChristopherMHeaps you're response has nothing to do with my comment. I'm talking about how the guy who created the best secondary ever on one of best defenses ever and the guy who's considered the greatest coach ever both don't have jobs anymore in the league. That tells me the league has changed in a way something about their style/philosophy/goal doesn't work anymore and that isn't a good thing. At least to me it's not. If the OPPOSITE of Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick style football is what's become the meta then that means we're going away from the core of the game.
It’s called evolution…there is a reason two 72 year old coaches don’t have jobs anymore and that’s it….every sport evolves over time…keep up or move on…..
@@brianmyers4444 I know what's it's called. I'm saying it's bad for the game if it's turning into the opposite of what those guys do.
Carroll's calling card was always about defense. If the defense is failing, then Carroll is failing. The new defensive orientated head coach will be judged by the same standard. This is why the linebacker play will be the determining factor of his immediate success. The defense is relatively loaded everywhere else. Can the new coach make lemonade out of LB lemons? The linebacker play is the litmus test.
Loaded? CB is the only proven loaded group. DL has potential, but we aren’t “loaded” at every position except LB.
Ahh Brandon, revisiting Jimmy Graham will only lead to headaches, ulcers, or nose bleeds...LOL. It's probably fair to guess that Cable and Carroll wanted to turn Graham into a TE that can block, and Schneider said "Really?" That said, if we start seeing Christian Haynes playing LEFT Guard, who gets the blame if that fails? MacDonald and Coach Huff/Coach Grubb, or does this look like Schneider not wanting to spend money on the OL? Schneider has made some GREAT draft picks over the years, but OL has been his Achilles Heel for years imo. I also think Jimmy did score something like 10 TDs his last season, but might be wrong here. Think they threw 'jump balls' in the end zone for him. But totally agree with your main point, very sad that they tried to turn him into a blocker...wow. Looking forward to your next live stream. Go Hawks!
Well, that's what happens when you trade your Center. The o-line regresses and the TE has to be used as a blocker to compensate.
Tom Cable impersonation was on point
Well it’s hard to say it was ridiculous at the time of the trade. Jimmy was an all-pro level TE easily top 5 nfl talent, not to mention Russ needed a big target for the red zone. The biggest mistake was the underestimation of how good Max Unger really was, he also was a pro bowler level Center that the saints needed desperately to anchor their subpar middling OL. I blame Carroll and his offensive schemes of run first mentality that ultimately ruined what could have been a huge target for Russ. But remember he did blossom very late in his last year in Seattle with 10 TDs that year too
He sais he wouldn't put a Carson like comparence on him. Proceeds to call the video "mini Carson" 😂
The head scratcher was using him as a blocking TE, they used him wrong from the get go. I will never forget when Greg Olson came in and said he suggested some things and the staff is like, “We cant/don’t do that here.” Mind blowing, Carroll had no idea how to effectively use TE’s. Fant is a stud, he just needs to be unleashed.
Darrell Bevell always needed s slash player, from Percy Harvin . He made excuses saying "If I just had this guy , my offense would be unstoppable" He (Bevell) was trash and we are still looking for a center to this day.
Our offensive line fell off a cliff when that trade happened.
I agree, 100%… If we had an actual plan to utilize Jimmy Graham, the way that he had proven over and over again to be capable of, then maybe it would’ve been worth it. I remember thinking that it didn’t bother me losing the draft pick as much as it bothered me losing Max Unger. We haven’t had a solid Center as consistent since Max went to New Orleans.
Do we need an injury prone player?
i hope not i hope they trade for kadarius toney
We are set at every offensive area. The question is Offensive Line. I think we did enough, but did we?
Definitely gives Carson vibes
I don't understand how he was not further up the draft even with the injury might be a steal
His offensive line was flat-out mauling people in these clips. Giant running lanes, not getting touched until 25 yds downfield. Front 7's getting knocked down and pancaked like bowling pins. From my perspective Holani has a Chris Johnson style without the top end speed. Has nice acceleration off the block from stationary. Finishes runs with aggression and will jump over people like Carson. I also want see the clips of him getting hit in the backfield and how he responds. I also want to know how well does he churn out the 3 yard gain after getting hit in the backfield off the snap. Great video! Dude definitely looks promising.
Resembles Marshawn not Carson. Nothing like Carson.
Another great analysis of a player i had no idea even when I watched his video s on UA-cam was so explosive...you keep giving us great content and I'm grateful that you are not like so many doubters that claim to be fans .Oh yeah Holaini looks like Walker,Lynch and Carson
I see it differently - 3-3 start very possible if not likely as they get on the same page with all the newness. But 11 wins still possible
Like the feet, always moving forward
QBs are getting paid too much. They might be the most important position but that doesn't warrant that amount of money. It's a teamsport after all and everybody is putting their body on the line. Can't have a league where Rbs are haggled with while they have the shortest career and QBs getting money that would make both of them high paid players
Holani looks good but i think it will be a camp battle to watch at rb4 between him and Ricky Person...
