I don't think the Mariners' owners are "poor and broke," I think they just don't give a damn about winning when they make great revenue anyway. That's actually way worse imo.
Jeff has a strong track record for success and revolutionized logistics chains using decentralization. This is obviously a prestige play for him so hopefully he doesn't want to become a super hands on owner like Jerry Jones but just wants a successful avenue to further his name.
I dont know what a owner actully does besides pay the checks. Does he have the final say on hiring when john and Mcdonald are gone? I just hope this decision doesn't send us back to the dark ages.
The owner decides on the front office who intern decide on coaches, staff, and players. So he could have as much or as little control as he wants. Think about how involved Jerry Jones is in the Cowboys vs. someone like Paul Allen was.
