    In 14 years, Pete Carroll made the playoffs 10 times, winning the division five times. He made it to the Super Bowl twice and won it all one time. He was and will always be an amazing coach.

    I think it was a number of things.
    1) He lost the players/locker room,
    2) Refused to make adjustments to a D that the entire league figured out how to exploit like 3-4 years ago.
    3) Kept bringing in sub-par coordinators that were basically YES men. Waldron actually brought some unique stuff in 2022, and then it seemed to morph right back to what we've always done last year.
    4) Spent a ton of draft capital and money on a defense only to field one of the worst in the NFL.
    And I think Jody demanded change and Carroll said no or didn't want to - so you part ways.

      I could not agree more. The only reason you promote a Clint Hurrt to DC is because he owed his entire coaching career to Caroll and will of course do everything that Pete wants. In my opinion one of the most baffling hiring/Promotion in the NFL in recent years.

    Carroll's calling card was always about defense. If the defense is failing, then Carroll is failing. The new defensive orientated head coach will be judged by the same standard. This is why the linebacker play will be the determining factor of his immediate success. The defense is relatively loaded everywhere else. Can the new coach make lemonade out of LB lemons? The linebacker play is the litmus test.

      Loaded? CB is the only proven loaded group. DL has potential, but we aren’t “loaded” at every position except LB.

      Ya I blame the coordinators more then Pete . Neither of them could adjust when there gameplans went to poo. Pete seemed to lose his sense of urgency. Press conferences after losses seemed like Oh well . I think J/S has done a great job addressing needs fixing problems personell wise and brought in what appears to be a great coaching staff. Time will tell.

    I think you have to look at the investment made by the front office towards the defense and the continual decline of performance from them. The office put more and more behind Carroll to bring up the defense but ending nearly at the bottom after having the most expensive defensive roster was most likely the nail in the coffin. It's a very "well we did our job, and you didn't do yours" situation.

    This will probably go unread and be a waste of time but I still say that PC deserved the last year of his contract. And people, regular fans, can say what they want, but when you're building something, or a team in this case, winning and losing actually aren't the major indicators of success. I think PC saw the development of this team from his role down as his legacy project and I think his target for success was going to be this year, the 2024 season.
    In fact, given all the injuries we had last yeat on both sides of the ball, it was insanely great coaching that got us to even 9-8. Also, our youth, which is going to be great, were obviously still in early development and those are just growing pains and perfectly well expected. It may be true, and we shall see soon, that PC was old fashion or stuck in his ways or whatever, but there are two things that will never change in this game at the NFL level and that is the size of the field and the time on the clock for each quarter and THESE are the factors that need to be managed and game planned for.
    As far as the coordinators go, it was just obvious that they were both new and learning themselves, and I'm sure PC, at his level of coaching, saw himself as their stewards and guides as well, so were they making mistakes? ..of course, but that's what happens when you're new at something. I know Waldren wasn't a new OC but let's be real, he, if he WAS making the offensive calls in LA, he, was making them for Sean McVay and was never given the reigns himself, or at least not fully. And it's of note that both of those guys (Waldren and Hurrt) were hired elsewhere pretty fast in this league as soon as they got fired and we can't say that for Norton Jr. or Darrell Bevell, who by the way, is just the friggin QB's coach for Miami right now. Waldren, in Chicago, will have a fantastic opportunity to develop a new QB and offense and right now he has probably the best WR tro in the league, so he's not going anywhere soon.
    For all the faciness and shifting of Mike Mac's defense, it had a weakness and that was runs up the middle. So, if teams had a really great solid run game with great blockers, and if they have a defense able to expose Baltimore's offensive weaknesses, then hiis defense can be beaten, and this was PC's core model as we all know from 2013-2014, which he'd been building since he got here in 2010. To say that PC wasn't evolving isn't really accurate because this is a copy cat league and at any point it could DEVOLVE or evolve back to a PC model of team development and at that point we're now talking about a guy like Mike Mac who isn't evolving with the times.

    Pete was great but didn’t evolve in play calling, also kept too many staff on that needed to go.

    • @ryanball2754
      @ryanball2754 2 місяці тому

      Technically, Pete didn't call the plays, Hurtt and Waldron did. Pete couldn't fix the issues plaguing the team. We don't know who deserves most of the blame just yet, though. We will find out more this year about Waldron, Hurtt is just a defensive line coach for the Eagles, so we won't find out much about Hurtts' abilities as a defensive coordinator.

      But we also saw a carousel of coordinators throughout Pete’s tenure between 2015-2023. Pete’s influence with outdated schemes on both sides of the ball led to play-calling demise for coordinators.

    • @ryanball2754
      @ryanball2754 2 місяці тому

      @JTRob98 I'm not so sure about that. It's possible, but we had a top 10 offense I believe the first half of the season last year and there was a 4 week span where we had the #1 Defense but they just couldn't get them at the same time and it all just fell apart the second half. It could be Pete's fault, but it very well could be the in-game playcallers, which was not Pete.

      I'm talking about how the guy who created the best secondary ever on one of best defenses ever and the guy who's considered the greatest coach ever both don't have jobs anymore in the league.
      That tells me the league has changed in a way something about their style/philosophy/goal doesn't work anymore and that isn't a good thing. At least to me it's not.
      If the OPPOSITE of Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick style football is what's become the meta then that means we're going away from the core of the game.

      @@zachrichardson5581Its not bad for the game. Football is like a chess match. Offenses and Defenses always evolved to get a leg up against the other - and so it shall forever be. If you are unwilling to change and adjust you are done in this league. Caroll was unwilling to change and it cost him in the end. Still the greatest Seahawks coach ever but it was time to move on.
