Im really glad you clipped this because i was working and didnt get a chance to respond. The reason i asked this is because shannahan and mcvay are some of the brightest offensive minds in the league and i thought facing them both 2 times a year might speed the process up of figuring it out. I think you bring up some really good points that changes my opinion on that because of the evolving and unpredictable nature of what McDonald wants to do. Also i think youre right about the defense being tailor made to attack 49ers. McDonald is gonna be shannahan kryptonite 😂😂 thanks for the well thought out and deep response. Awesome content as always

Macdonald is why I think our defense will dominate
The solution to solving the McDonald defense, and any defense really is - run the ball successfully and everything else follows. That’s how McVay attacked this defense. He ran the ball.
Well, Shanahan and McVay will be much more prepared for Macdonald's defense this year. I do still think our defense will be improved, but I am just not sure how much yet. Hopefully Macdonald can "out coach" them more than not.
It's definitely going to be an interesting year, and not in a bad way.

As a former DB, I can tell you that defense is WAY more complex than offense. There is so much you can do on Defense, so much. Offense, you can only run so routes and their concepts. You can shut down an offense faster than blowing up a defense.

also, he is dealing with better players in Seattle than what he had in b-more. He actually made those players better as they were struggling before him. He has never had a front 7 and corners like this
Do you think that if Lumen Field is too loud, it might make it too difficult for our defense to communicate with each other; and significantly hurt our defensive performance at home?
That’ll be interesting to see, I think that might be difficult in the beginning but will be figured out as the season goes on.
It's a great question, and one I've thought they might have to adjust to. The one nice part about the simplicity of the old defense is it minimized those moments of necessary communication when it was really loud, because they weren't really adjusting much pre-snap. It could prove to be a bit of an issue and the hand signals are going to have to be very good, because there are times you just can't hear each other.
