Practical Performance Car
United Kingdom
Приєднався 19 жов 2007
Practical Performance Car is the home of performance cars and tuning for grown-ups. Originally launched as a print magazine in 2004, PPC has now evolved into a fully fledged UA-cam channel featuring a fusion of all things automotive.
Focusing on classic cars that enthusiasts can (and do) build on their drive/garage/shed/living room floor, PPC is hosted by magazine founder and editor, Will Holman, and long-term contributor, Ben Allen.
Will and Ben are both petrolheads with an unhealthy obsession about buying/fixing/destroying/hoarding old cars. Cars with personality, cars with soul, cars for the love of (cool) cars.

Ultra rare, bike carb fed Kadett Estate flies up the lanes. Moving some furniture fast? Let's go.
PPC's Will Holman meets Malcolm and his Opel Kadett Estate that's powered by a 2.0 16 valve on bike carbs. From a wimpering load lugger to a b-road savage - this estate really packs a punch.

PPC's Will Holman is tasked with delivering a beautiful V12 E Type roadster to Le Mans, and gets his nephew to follow on in Will's 1987 Merc 500 SEC - who wants to come home on a train? But the Merc coupé has covered fewer than 500 miles since being recommissioned after a six year layup, so will it make it? And will the Jag, for that matter? High-viz breakdown vests at the ready! Dave Walker of Emerald M3D on Modifying Cylinder Heads for Performance
Переглядів 15 тис.2 місяці тому
Dave Walker has been modifying cars for more 60 years. In his time he's built successful race cars, designed camshafts, sold modified high-performance cylinder heads and, most recently, his own range of Emerald stand alone engine management systems. He is one of the world's leading performance tuning experts, and in this video he describes the process of modifying a cylinder head to make more p...

PPC's Will Holman heads out in Kyle's savage Opel Ascona that's powered by a massively tuned C20XE - LET. With a full rally spec interior, Cosworth brakes and enough oomph to scare even the most hardened petrolhead, this retro icon is not for the faint hearted. Buy us a pint, please. How? Smoke-screen creating German low rider hits the b-roads. Practical family estate? Absolutely.

PPC's Will Holman attempts to drive this rather special Auto Union 1000 Universal that's underpinned by a very unusual power plant. With funky suicide doors, lowered on Audi rims and with a column shifter to strike fear into all who challenge it, this Germanic barge is something very different. This car is for sale. Interested? 6.3-litre V8, four-wheel-drive, anti-lock brakes - and this one was so bent it made John DeLorean look like Mother Teresa. In 1966 the Jensen FF was a technical tour-de-force. In 2006 it nearly bankrupted its current owner. Buy us a pint, please. How? Rear engined '60s French? Rare as hen's teeth tearaway is tatty, bruised - and loves to be abused

PPC's Will Holman discovers Mick's twin Weber shod, rear engined Simca Rallye 2. Beautifully restored and wheeled out on sunny Sundays this is not. Behind the rough and ready looks hides a ridiculously rare French b-road blaster that gets properly used - until it throws a fan belt. How does it sound? Raspy and delicious - and it's garlic coloured. We couldn't get enough of it. Buy us a pint, pl...
We bought a limited edition 205 GTI that'd been neglected for years. Can we get it road legal?
Переглядів 3,7 тис.3 місяці тому
We bought a bedraggled and unloved Peugeot 205 GTI from Facebook Marketplace to attempt to get it back on the road in record time (it's summer after all!). It'd been off the road for six years and had done a total of less than 100 miles in the past decade. Naturally, it wasn't as simple as we thought. Looking for funky automotive keyrings, badges, gifts and more? Check out Desborough Designs, w...

Brilliant 👏
Fantastic keep those 2CV's alive 😂
I had, as he referred to, a Citroen Dyane in the 80's, I loved it, I would have loved it more if it had an engine with a bit of poke. Just a technical question, why can't you use the gearbox from the BMW?
" . . .I imagine you're going to keep this . . .!"
Nice job. Thanks for sharing. I want one😃
Mighty car mods have just done 1 of these in Australia ( they threw the kitchen sink at it) . Being 55 it's a great trip down memory lane.
We'll have to check that one out. Thanks for the heads up!
That takes me back. My first motor was a council yellow Chevanne with one red door and one brown. We sprayed it over in black on the drive and every year it got fresh welding for the MOT! Happy Days :)
That sounds fantastic, its makes up for it being a 2cv
I'm obviously biased, as it's mine 🤣🤣, always good to meet fellow petrol heads, great experience meeting up with you guys, and a superb edit. Many Thanks
Great to have you along Malcolm!
Graf Generator!!!!
When I am right, the Red Pig IS a W 109.This one IS a good recreation of the old Car.
what a stunner.
Yeah, she's a beauty. Proper head turner
Looks like a fiesta estate to me! Obviously it's a not but first glance! 🤔👍🏻🇬🇧
Not far off actually! Hadn't thought of that
Nice car.
I left a comment on shorts, ours too was a Uk Northern Ireland car as we had Opel dealers and Vauxhall dealers .
My late father had an Opel Rekord Estate I remember dreaming about owning a Kadette GTe coupe after seeing one in a brochure.
RWD Opel's are proper nice cars that did well in classes they were built to compete in. Much the same as the Toyota's, Ford's, Nissan's ,etc. Doesn't take much, lightweight, 4 cylinders, just add a twin cam, 5 speed, limited slip rear end, all can be sourced from wreckers or for cheap, well within anyone's budget, and voila it's good for keeping up in modern traffic and still feel quite lively. Nice thought out build, goes just like it should, no need for the dumb 1200hp crap everyone else is on about these days. As you bri's call it: Cracking auto. Thumbs up
Glad you enjoyed👌
I have an affinity with this as my second car was a black ex RAF Vauxhall Chevette estate. Great motor. Rubbish in snow though due to having no weight over the rear axle.
What a Lovely Car. The Right engine RWD on Carbs making all the Right Noises and Old Skool.❤ Just one thing, bin them Filter Socks. They have a Habit of disintegrating into your Engine! A Domed filter with a Base Plate would be a much better choice. Thanks For Sharing 👍
Appreciate your comments, it's a lovely car indeed 👍
I miss my old Opel kadett, I only have a short video of it before it was finished. I spoke to one of your team at beaulieu years ago. I wish I knew what happened to it. What a beautiful example you have there he's a lucky guy ❤
Spot on
I recognised the livery. images.app.goo.gl/fPCgrDXf8AuBDe8U8 Pretty sure GEC used to run van/estates very similar
Lovely looking car and a great engine.
We agree
Beautiful old OPEL, love it. :D
The colour scheme makes a huge difference too
This is read ringer for the Holden Gemini and there is more than two on the road in Australia and we did get the station wagon and the Australian Holden Gemini came directly from Isuzu in Japan in the 1970s of course coming from Japan they would obviously built very well and there was even a diesel Gemini available and of course been the 1970s the rise of the Japanese vehicles and the beginning of the death of British vehicles
They were built well but with one exception, rust proofing, which is why there are almost none in the UK but loads left in Australia.
@kieranjamieson In Australia motor vehicles don't rust as bad as in the UK as they do in Australia my 1997 Toyota Hilux has no rust issues one advantage may be almost half the body is aluminium because it is the tray nut believe or not many Chinese built vehicles are showing signs of rust the MGs BYDs and LDVs all rusting badly now rust isn't a big problem in many newer Japanese vehicles well our seven year old Suzuki Baleno isn't rusting obviously any vehicle rusts in Australia infact l know were tgere is a lovely Mercedes-Benz W123 300TD that isn't rusting away and it sits outside and older Japanese cars have rusted the same as older British cars but even 30 year old Toyota's don't rust in Australia apart from a few examples but in N.S.W we have yearly rego check similar to an MOT and any bad rust is a fail my Hilux has never been knocked back on rust and with tge inspection there are no advisories if there is a problem you have to fix it on my Hilux it the only knock back has been the exhaust system and one of the knock backs was due to a cheap Chinese part of the exhaust system and the part was fairly new because l have seen the same part for sale on ebay cheap Chinese rubbish most of anything made in China is rubbish
Brilliant video, excited for the next!
Cheers Mack!
My first work vehicle was a opal kadett 2door estate, mustard colour, used to get my tools to building sites ,😊
Took a few mins for me to click how it has a relatively modern Fermanagh reg. But the story about the friend in northern Ireland makes sense.
Enjoyed watching this. I've seen this car in person. Lovely car.
It's lovely isn't it! Glad you enjoyed
Love a long roof!
Amen!
Mint that 👌.
Hope you enjoy the full episode!
Friends of mine had the rebadged Aussie version ( Holden Gemini ) three of them to be exact , good little cars.
We used to have a one as a service run about for the work shop everyone drove it 200k+ never even had a clutch. Bullet proof.
my french teacher had one with an old bugatti engine fitted in it, he would get excited just telling us about it (many decades ago)
I agree that it's a tad low (in case anyone gives a toss what I think)
Lovely car!
Cheers Peter!
Love it!
Excellent car, nice and lightweight with lots of power.
No ride on the Autobahn? Imagine this car at 160km/h in Germany with the original shitty brakes. Guess the gearbox won't last longer than 1year before worn out. Not to forget the clutch.
The sound at 9.54..
My favorite car of all time, due to its low price tag and vast versatility. My dad had one in the early '60-ies. Loved it.
A 2CV with a BMW motorbike engine : you only see that in the UK ! Everywhere else, it's forbidden... Except... on the racetrack !
Shhh don't say it too loud: they'll ban that too - as well as everything else!
Was it a vacuum leak causing the merc to run bad?
Oh dear........was it the master cylinder or slave cylinder on the Jag?
We've asked a few times now and still have no idea! I’d say it was the slave cylinder, as if it was the master I’d have got hydraulic fluid all over my foot from the pedal. We do know it didn’t leave the garage in France for several weeks, so I suspect they got the French guys to fix it for them and sent it back to the UK. Perhaps it will forever remain a mystery!
horror stinker
I approve this message!
Perfect, other than one niggle. I would pop on a Quaif Sequential trans as well, and definitely supercharge it or turbocharge it! I guess two niggles, cause I would absolutely put in a fully adjustable coil-over suspension setup and some wider wheels and tires (3 niggles). But as it sits, still an epic vehicle! Love it! 😍👍👌🤘🖖
T looks like a kids toy car
Looks like an excellent day had by all.
Certainly was
Looks like a lot of fun was had.
Brilliant little Road Trip Will and Chas, looking forward to Part 2 already. Not a huge E Type Fan, but have to admit looks good In silver and non of the wire wheels.
Lovely car. Good to hear that it's used
