Cheers guys 👍 I'm really chuffed with the video 😊 I like that you added the dyno clip and the extra photos 👍thanks again for the opportunity. I look forward to seeing you guys again soon 👍
Love it! I had a 1.5td Corsa with the same 67bhp Isuzu motor this started out with. I wound the zexel-denso pump (licence-built Bosch VE) up to the max using the standard turbo and a ball-and-spring valve, slapped a divider in the exhaust housing and routed a "screamer" (wastegate only) pipe out the nearside wheelarch, and ran it on biodiesel. used to run about 1.5bar (22psi) of boost. It was pretty good for quite a while, only it used to wear out the standard F15 gearboxes for a pastime. After the second or third 'box I converted it to a F16 "big block" gearbox. Then it did the big ends, so a mate and I put a new crank in it over a weekend. I'd get anywhere from 45mpg driven normally down to a measured 22.7mpg if I thrashed it- with 15p a litre biodiesel I'd literally see how much I could burn just for fun! I think overspeeding the tiny standard turbo eventually shed all the compressor blades. I've still got that engine in my garage, and a bigger turbo, one day I'll put it in something else. That "130 horsepower" is underselling it, it's the probably 260Nm of torque and 875kg kerb weight that make it fast! the direct injection 1.7 16valve motor is a straight bolt-in, and isn't held back by the pre-combustion chambers the 8valve has. I'd be interested which injectors he's used to make the mechanical V.E. pump function.
Nice. Love the use of a 5 door, hell why not a saloon. Brilliant little car. Perfect sleeper, people kicking around horsepower but diesel torque is never mentioned. This was the peak vauxhall era 81-95
First a bit of feedback : You guys need to sort the audio. Second : What an absolute gem! I don't think we got the 5-door Astra in sweden, the wheels are perfect and the painted arches makes it into a proper sleeper.
I've never seen compound turbos on a small scale like that! and really budget, just like how we all used to do it! The math on compound turbos is pretty fascinating, OEM on lots of heavy duty trucks\equipment.
I don't get the compounding the turbine side of 2 turbos. Surely that's just reducing the pressure drop across both turbines, so limiting how much power they can both put into their compressors?
It's fried my brain, an explanation would be great..i can see how the cold side of the first turbo could feed the hot side of the second turbo, then the cold side of the second feeds the engine...but what's the deal with the exh, sticking out of the bonnet and why isn't it smoking...Errrr....

Great to have you on the channel Sam! Fun times - and looking forward to the behind the scenes footage 😄
Why the absence of an air filter? 😢
@Snijkamp there's very little space behind the headlight, I am working on a salutation currently 👍
Did you do all the work Sam? It’s a really nice job!! Under the bonnet it’s great. Nice work with the strut tops, very neat.
@blacktopmediauk yea, I did mate, it was a completely standard car when I got it 10 years ago. Cheers, yea, the engine bay has had alot of work.
Nice to see something that's not needed a remortgage to build

At last someone who knows that 130hp in a td isn't what it's about it's how they pull on boost!! 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤😆😆😆😆
Nice, might give PPC a call when I finish my 560 ftlb BMW M57 Turbo Diesel conversion in my 1965 Jaguar MK2
Just love builds like this! Findings bits tucked away, Mmm that’ll work! Pure genius. Keep them coming 👍
Glad you enjoyed!

Another fantastic video guys, great to see a Nova on the Channel and what a great sounding little Vauxhall this is.
Easily my favorite car youve done so far!! Love a bit of diesel tuning.
Glad you enjoyed!
What an amazingly put together video. Hope this channel gets the subs it deserves
That's one nice nova nice one Sam

Appreciate the comments! Yeah, we had some technical issues with audio on this one unfortunately 🤦
This isn’t an Astra 😊
@@gimble447 *facepalms* you're right. It's the Corsa.
Great build 👏
I agree 👍🏻
Thanks both!
Cor, sound of that beauty

Nice nova that!
Thus is great. Loving this series 👍
I have seen those multi-turbo trucks on the UA-cam. I never ever thought somebody would do it here especially to a Nova. Um. Eeeeek!
Great shedineering but oil burners aren't really my thing! Though love an old Nova!
Ols skool modding, wonderfull ,🤘

I've seen this before and makes a change from one that doesn't have a Redtop engine. I wonder if it has the X17DTL engine in it
Small turbo to reduce lag this spools the bigger one ??
Great car! What's going on with the sound recording?
We had some technical issues on this one unfortunately. Sorted for the next one though!
You can keep up with Sam and his Nova here ua-cam.com/video/OYBVnnFolOM/v-deo.html
Get the 1.9 16v in there 150 of the bat 200 with a smoke poke tune in that 1.7 it's ok for what it is but you know it makes sense
One word....sandals(!)
I hope he's done the chassis strengthening mods 👍
Sounds great though
Goes without saying, thanks for the concern though 🤓
Short before video ended. It made a noise like broken piston rings
What was the torque figure on the dyno?
183.98LB-FT - 249NM
funny them front hubs dont look nova
We should have asked... fairly likely to be non-standard!
@@ppcmagazine there not even aftermarket nova setup
😎😎😎😎👍👍👍👍
Does his insurance company know ?😄
And why not just put an Astra GSi engine in it?
That'd just be too easy 😁
All that work and you end up with 130bhp?Nice work but 130bhp is 80s bar talk.
Agreed.
Nice build, but a standard mk2 Astra GTE16v will be quicker - each to their own. Fun fact: The mk2 Astra isn’t much heavier than the Nova.
Absolutely beautiful sleeper. Keep making these cars before tyrant laws and government stop us driving proper cars.. .
The more modern 1.7 is made by Fiat. Same as the 1.9 120/150 cdti in vauxhalls
What's with the weird 'editor' voiceover?
Please speak up AND fix your audio. Could barely hear both of you even at max volume on my phone. Couldn't watch.😢
I managed to watch it?
We had some audio issues on this one indeed. Should be fixed for the next one
The guy is asking😢 to many questions I'm out
And clarifying everything that was said 2-3 times....
