Ness River Railroad
Australia
Приєднався 10 жов 2018
A freelance N scale railroad in my shed. Running UP and NS power with a few specials thrown in. Inspired by a friend who has started their own channel documenting their hobby I’ve decided to start this page to document the building of my railroad. I’m by no means an expert, I’m very much an amateur and this page is not for advice. The name of the railroad is after my little kelpies River and Ness, the wee sheep dogs that never grew. I initially chose UP power as I’ve always liked US railroads and when I was a kid a friend bought me a HO scale UP SD45. I’ve gotten into NS after many hours rail fanning on UA-cam.
A quick video for those who asked about my clip on magnifier and some bonus footage.

What is the cats name?❤
Nice update David, some nice additions to the roster. What is the size of your layout room again? - Steve
Very impressive layout! That sure as hell looks like a lot of work, so very cool to see it all works out in the end. Looking forward to your next updates!
It certainly has been a lot of work. I’m glad you like it.
Great update video. Enjoyed it and subscribed!
Thanks.
Just awesome David..... good to see you bud.
Like the videos. Need to see more Bert
He seems to make fairly regular appearances.
Great update Dave, was great to actually meeting you at the convention, it definitely was a great weekend of Aussie N scale nerding 🤓 With the U50, you may need to change the wheel sets, Kato make low profile ones that fit most older locos, I've changed old Life-Like ones and it makes all the difference on c55.
Thanks mate, it was great to meet in person. I’ll take a look at the a Kato site for wheels.
Great update Dave, was great catching up with you at the convention, it was a great weekend of nerding🤓 With that U50, Kato make low-profile wheel sets which should fit, may help with the c55 track, I've fitted them in various non Kato units and it really makes a difference.
@Vman7757 for some reason your comment won’t come up. What Kato wheels did you use on the U50?
Is the like a Clydesdale shown at TS 6:05?
That’s our young girl Lyra, she’s a Gypsy Cob which is kind of like a scaled down Clydesdale.
You might be interested in South Alberta Rail. He is strictly N Scale and has a very good channel and layout. Well he did anyway... NOTE: He hasn't posted much on the general-side, but unfortunately has chosen to go the Patreon route and forsake us regular modelers.
I know his channel, it’s an amazing layout and I love his long trains.
Hi David , thanks for the information on the clip on magnifier. Always like seeing trains running. That locomotive is on the odd looking side. Looks like it’s running OK but sounds rough. Nice looking horse’s. Thanks for sharing. Have a good weekend. 😎😎 👍
I see an old Bachmann Box on the table at the 2:97 mark. Is that a steam locomotive box?
Yes it is.
That big UP loco sounds like it needs lubrication. Isn't it a Kato? It should be very smooth and quiet if it's anything like every other Kato.
I got info in my last upload that it could be an old ConCor possibly from the 70s which is pretty cool.
@@nessriverrailroad1299 You just jogged my memory. I think you are right. I think Kato made ConCor. 4 or 5 decades ago, they were the only N scale locos that were good runners. At any rate, it's a very old loco and some oil could really help. And thanks for the shots of the trains and horses running!
They are £50 David 😮 is that what you paid ?? Brian UK
I had to look it up but I paid about $150aud which is about £75.
Nice video🚂🛤️👍. Greetings Gert
Loving the CN power. I think I’ve mentioned that before.😊 Got to get a pair of those magnify glasses. Save me from squinting all the time..
Always good to hear from you 😊 !
I bought the rechargeable Magnifying Glasses on Amazon in 2023. They are amazing as they have the LED light in them, 4-5 different lenses to change out, and changing to 2 levels of LED light, High or Low, and being rechargeable is awesome. I can't live without them. Great video once again. Look forward to all your videos on your layout. Stay safe, and tell Bertie the Cat, I think it is, Hello :)
Great update David, lot's of nice new things you picked up.
Hi David , good to see you and I hope you’re doing well. Sorry to hear about your knee injury and hope you’re getting better. Good update we all have to do those type things to keep everything moving. It’s summer here and it’s been hot and humid. Thanks for sharing .Have a good week. 😎😎 👍
Keep up the good work on the layout. I think your U-50 is actually a Con-Cor model from the 1970's not Kato. Noisy but with decent tractive effort, who needs a sound system. The prototype was basically two U25's melded together in a move to counter the DD-40 that EMD built for the 100th anniversary of the transcontinental line.
Thanks for the info. It’s a cool thing either way.
When We Tinkering On Our Layouts Were Different in Our Ways. For Me Working on the Wall Around The Layout Then Finishing The Track Plan Finally.then We Hit the Trainshows.
Oh No! Catzilla Is Still On The Loose! Lol.
Get busy dude😀😀Love Gons and Cabooses but not a big fan of grain trains. Thats an impressive amount of NS locos. I was able to install 4 more almost drop in decoders in some older loco's but need help on three where the decoders had no wires. Looked on you tube but not finding the information I need. Wool hat, cold in the train room?
Thanks Dave!!! Great video!!!! Greetings from Somerset UK!
I just came across this video .... Subscribed!!! 👍
Nice update, David and Bertie!!! Good to see you again. I hope your knee is doing well. Great update on your tinkering projects! Be well and see you next time!
Dave, looking good. Love the new additions. Glad all is well and you’re healed up from the fractured knee. Thanks for sharing. Ken
G'day mate. You know we've got a feral cat problem here in Aus and here you are making one to run around your tracks. I'm still collecting bits and pieces for a layout and I just like taking the time to see what other blokes are doing so as to minimise the amount of mistake's that I'm sure I will make. I reckon I might even pick a couple of ideas but alter them from what you've done. I will be doing all Australian.
I agree that sometimes the things in this world may seem bad, yet you have positive energy and that is what is important. Let us all keep our heads up and our ears to the ground as strange as that sounds. I thank you for your video.
thank you
Great update David! Those magnifiers look awesome, will definitely track down a set!
The taxes on any import is at least double
I wish I could buy an N scale in Ecuador
she's a bute!!!
Love your videos! I still haven't been able to start my build, so it is great for me to see what others are up to.
Good to see you getting the trains running better. The first thing I noticed getting older was eye sight going too. And I leave my glasses all over the place. Go into a spec savers and buy the ropes that go onto your glasses. I don't lose them as often now.
Can you give me a link to your glasses magnifier and the online auction site you mentioned. Keep up the good work. Cheers from WA.
Looks great, the lake could be the Blue Lake at Mt Gambier, a dormant volcano I think.
The “Cat Controller” 😉
Well here I am all caught up. I hope you enjoyed the weekend and learned a few things. I couldn't build LEGO trees at the start of last year and after a master class I can at least now make passable trees. So the short courses are always fun. Can't wait to see what's around the bend. :)
Thanks for taking the time to watch the whole back catalogue, that’s a big undertaking. I think I’m up to about 108 uploads.
1 more to go and I've caught up. This has been one hell of a binge ride. Seriously, you can build a train layout to be proud of. :)
Are you trying to run a Pilbara ore train with coal? You're slowly getting there. 2 to go. The end is in sight.
Perhaps a TCS Wi-Fi throttle would be a good answer for your problems
Lake looks like it's starting to come together.
At this point if your moving the grain yard, maybe a port facility where the grain yard is might be a good swap in? I love a good port facility in layouts. 5 to go.
There are really some nice paces to get shots from around the layout now. Gotta be proud of your work. :)
You’re almost up to date 👍
Did you plan that money shot @3:30? Bloody nice as . :)
Coming along nicely but how about stop calling it the extension and maybe come up with another more fitting name? "The Mountains" maybe? And when you finish the area with the lake call it "The lake District". I was even thinking "The Horseshoe" for the newer turnaround before heading back. I was just thinking the extension was covering too much of the layout. Keep up the good work. :)
