It’s so nice to see someone run a train at close as real speed. Nothing bothers more then a speeding train going round and round way to fast. Great videos , thank you
The spline and track work look awesome David!!! Glad too see you back doing updates for us. I hope that you're feeling well and pray that your doing ok since the passing of your mom. Can't wait till the next video!!! Take care!!!
It looks like it was worth every bit of the effort and time to get the extension loops right David. Thanks for updating us on the progress, as there are many of us who really enjoy watching your layout develop. I'm sorry that your long wheelbase steam locos aren't happy exploring the full extent of the rail line, but that's a problem the railroads have had for a long time.
Cheers Art, I have seen that many people have rules on sections of their layout restricting certain types of locos to areas so I guess that’s what I’ll do now.
Looks grate. Nice and smooth run on the loop there. I’m over in the states in Pennsylvania. And yes there’s many new rail lines that are to tight of a curve now for old steamers so not running a steam locomotive on a branch is actually prototypical. Still grate work. Shared it with my wife as it’s 2am and we are both still awake. And she laughed when I said what’s the boy wonder from down under got up to tonight. Hopefully your not offended I say that as I’m always amazed by your work.
That loop looks great already, can't wait to see it with scenery. That's going to make for an awesome railfan location on your layout... you have several of those now! It's always worth reworking something you aren't happy with, to end up with something working better and more to your liking!
Great video! If running steam trains up that grade is still on the back of your mind, I'd bite the bullet and just re-do that grade as its still in its 'under construction' state, you'll thank me me later! Cheers! 😎👍
I don’t really have the space in that spot to open up the radius enough to suit them. This is all bonus space compared to when I first started this layout in the old room so the steam locos still have the original area to run in.
Coming along well. Excellent work. You still have room for more railyards and can go double decker on the opposite side as well. You still have alot more potential with this layout.
I’m happy with how much track I have at the moment. I do have a very distant plan for putting a second level above the main yard but that met never happen, time will tell I guess.
Hello! My first visit to your layout. Very impressed. Have you happened to done a video on how you constructed the inclines and curves? Very interested.
I was just wondering how much progress you had maid on the extension. Looks like it’s done just got to get the scenery done. The trains look good running around the loop. Very nicely done Dave. You know I’m a big N S fan so I like seeing all your N S locomotives and rolling stock. Looking forward to seeing what you do next. Keep up the good work and videos coming. Thanks for sharing. Have a good day.
Hi David. Your layout looks great. Thank you for the videos, Re: your Long wheelbase steam locos. Could you run a diesel helper loco behind the steamer? like the USA railways do with all mainline steam loco's now? I am Bear from south/east Queensland
I once worked for a railroad where the tower operator forgot that certain large diesels were not allowed up a branch line because the curves were too small for them. A large diesel was sent up that branch and got stuck, and had to be rescued. Management was not happy.
What are the striped locomotives? They look different? Very nice work on the spline work and getting the radius fixed for coal trains. Glad to see you back posting also. Look forward to your updates all the time. One of my favorite UA-cam model railroad channels. Best of luck to you!
Question (random) what is the turning radius of the helix going to the 2nd level (I apologize if you've gone over this before) and also, what is the measurements of that section of that turn around. Kinda like at the far of the yard at the other end of the layout. You're layout since I've found this channel has been a huge inspiration for something I'm tinkering around with. I have a room in my home I'm designating as my N Scale train room. Cheers 🤙 (and thanks in advance)
I’m guessing it would require a lot of space. When planning my layout all I knew for sure was that I didn’t want a helix. I’m lucky that I have the space in n scale, I could have fitted in a lot more industries in the space that I’ve used.
@@nessriverrailroad1299 would certainly be good to know as I'm currently in the planning stage for a new layout. Due to the limited space, I plan on having a 2 track helix going down to staging.
The roadbed is and Australian product which I can’t remember the name of right now. This is the video I did about making spline. ua-cam.com/video/4fTszJkT8jg/v-deo.html
If you plan it right you can always arrange for the steam excursion train to go down the new extension. By the way, how is the dust level in the room being that it is in the barn? You often mention dirty track. Maybe an Ionizer in the room would reduce the dust particles?
If I keep the layout room door shut the dust is pretty good, not really more than a normal room. The problem I had this time is that once I got the new spline in I had to sand it to get it smooth for the roadbed. I had a vacuum going and a fan to move dust out the door but I still had a decent amount to clean up.
Great layout, love the sweeping curves and grades. Greetings from England.

Congratulations. Very nice layout. I love a long consist of the same cars. Looks great. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, long unit trains are cool.
That's working great now, well done, worth all the extra work.
AWESOME!!! Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work.
Just awesome, looks and runs fantastic. Great job on the trackwork and thanks for sharing. Dave
Thanks Dave.

That is fantastic, and running your coal train at a slower speed. That's a great looking layout, I'm very impressed. You have done a top job 100% 🙂🇦🇺
Nice job very smooth running up the grade !
Freaking Sweet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Glad you liked it 👍

this layout is quite something. very imaginative. :)
Fantastic as always. Your loop turned out great. Love the CN power at the end.🇨🇦. Cheers from Calgary
Cheers Garry, I love the CN locos. I barely run my UP stuff anymore, it’s mainly NS and CN that I now like running.

No offence at all, I’ll take it as a complement. You’re too kind. Thanks for the feedback on the branchline steam situation.
happy happy happy! it woooooooorks!
Great layout! Always look forward to your videos..love the Canadian engines
Cheers Jeff, it feels good to have that section sorted.

Thanks Roy, the adjustments weren’t huh but did require a decent amount of work. It seems to have made a big difference, for the better.
New subscriber here and liking what I see. You run some long trains and have a fairly large layout. Will have to watch more, David.
DPUICU (with a nod to JawTooth). Ain't technology great when we can model a DPU in N scale. Amazing! Good to have you back making videos again.
We are very lucky to have dcc to make this easy for us.
Running smooth as silk, nice work on plywood spine
My favorite UA-cam channel right now. Excited to see how this layout turns out!
Thanks, there will be a few tunnels on this section.

Great layout!
Outstanding, man!
your layout is a great inspiration. Your loops are really nice
Thank you, I hope my trial and error encourages more people to get stuck in and build.
Nice job Dave, smooth run and you got a nice place there. Bob
Thanks Bob, I’m going to have to measure it all out and put it down on paper. I’ve had quite a few people ask about my layout plan and dimensions.
great work!!
Looking great, too bad the steamers do not like that, they would look awesome on the loop. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. Ken
It is a shame, I had hoped it would be better. They can come up the other way so maybe the rule will be they can only come down this grade.

Very cool!
Thanks Dwight.

Cheers mate..Looks cold outside.
Take care as well.
BTW is that a swandri jacket you are wearing?

Not a good day for him 😳
😊

They are Canadian National, the F units are Kato and the Dash 8-CM is Rapido.

I wonder how well that would work in HO. I really don't want to build a helix.

Job well done 👍.
How wide (overall bench work) is your reverse loop at the yard, peninsula and the helix?
And what is the track radius on them?
I’ll have to measure it for you. The peninsula is roughly 24 inch radius. The returns at the yard and half way down the other side are 16 inch radius.
@@nessriverrailroad1299 would certainly be good to know as I'm currently in the planning stage for a new layout. Due to the limited space, I plan on having a 2 track helix going down to staging.

Thanks. Atlas code 55.
