Very cool! Long trains are always impressive. Thank you for sharing you layout build. I appreciate you doing it. I’m looking forward to your next update.
Hi David , everything is looking good. Always look forward to your updates. Love seeing long coal trains. I’ve been collecting 100 ton coal hoppers for the past 6 months. I’m up to about 34 at the present. Think about preordering the Kato N S bathtub hoppers. Looking forward to future updates. Thanks for sharing. Have a good week. 😎😎 👍
Hey Tommy, I’m up to 41 bathtub hoppers. Athearn, Kato and Atlas (the black and yellow units). I’m currently converting the Kato units to body mount couplers. The couplers they come with aren’t great. I initially changed them to Micro Trains short shank trucks and they were better but body mounting seems to really get them sorted. I’ve changed the Atlas units to MT trucks also.
If I remember correctly the longest coal train on my (flat) track consisted of roughly 75 hoppers. All pulled by just one articulated steam locomotive. Most hoppers were Kato Bethgon Coalporters so no surprise there.
That’s awesome. There’s probably not enough flat on my layout to run 75 hoppers, I did create some limits and problems by having so much elevation change. My coal rake started with the Kato bethgons, I then added Athearn and some Atlas. I have Scaletrains Trinity hoppers on pre order. I love Kato stuff but I found the original couplers on the Bethgons problematic on my inclines and frustrating to couple and uncouple. I’m changing them all over to MT body mount couplers at the moment. I like to put my Big Boy on the front to see what it could do, the problem for me is not lack of power but stopping the cars string lining in the loops and the DPUs stop this issue for me.
Very impressive layout! That sure as hell looks like a lot of work, so very cool to see it all works out in the end. Looking forward to your next updates!
I did that in my previous train room you’ll see in my earlier videos. I’m thinking I’ll do the same here but I do like the idea of valances to focus attention.
@@nessriverrailroad1299 yep, very fortunate to have the space allotted. I’m hoping to expand and eventually remove the helix. Not a fan of it, too many issues with it and it blocks half the layout. All good for now though. Looking forward to your next update - I’m long overdue for one myself! 😬
@@nessriverrailroad1299 what's the grade on your loops? if I could build this one again, I would have had hidden incline/decline tracks behind the layout instead of a helix.
No helix, just a single loop. The one thing I knew I wanted to avoid on my layout was a helix. This loop and the loop on the peninsula are designed specifically to avoid this.
@@nessriverrailroad1299 makes total sense What about a rear dpu would that make it better Sorry I have f units and steam only I have 1 pair of green Kato sd40 snoots and I need to know how many to get
It’s seems I messed up little bit with the editing. The middle section was so good I thought I’d show it twice 🤪
The great joy of N - Running the LOOOOOOOOONG trains 😍
It certainly is one of the bonuses.
I would be happy just owning 40 bathtub hoppers. Very impressive thanks for sharing.
I’ve had these for a while now. Athearn, Kato and Atlas.
The extension looks awesome and that train looked amazing running on the loop. Thanks for sharing. Ken
Thanks Ken,
I’m very happy with how it’s turned out.

Thanks Dwight,
I’ve just started prepping to make more trees.
Always enjoyed long trains since I wad kid in the 70s hope to be able to find a place to run my 30 85 ft box cars.

The extension is running smoothly, David!!! Nice long train!!! Miss the scenery called Bertie!!! See you next time!!!
I’m not sure were he was when I filmed this, I think he was back in the house. He certainly loves the train room.
Looks fantastic David . Smooth running. Loving the CN loco in the mix.
It’s a cool little unit.
Very impressive layout! That sure as hell looks like a lot of work, so very cool to see it all works out in the end. Looking forward to your next updates!
It certainly has been a lot of work. I’m glad you like it.
Paint the entire room sky blue including the ceiling. Makes the layout even much bigger

Great run David…love you had the NS units leading 😊
Thanks, I’m glad you like it.
Awesome train and video. Thanks for sharing. Dave
Thanks Dave, thanks for tuning in as always. The layout is coming along well. I’m glad I can finally move onto scenery of this section.
Nicely done David, your scenery is really coming in nicely. That video gives a good perspective of how big your layout is now. - Steve
Thanks Steve, I was watching your latest upload today, you’ve got a fair bit to deal with yourself 😀 We’re lucky to be able to have the space we do.

@CajonSub the loops on the extension and the peninsula are my alternative to a helix, once again the luxury of space.

Impressively awesome 😊😎👌👍!
Cheers.
Very nice! The hard work pays off...
Cheers Greg, it’s hard to believe that the first train ran on the extension two years ago.
Thanks for video :) best celebration for fire seasons end i can think of
Indeed. It’s bloody smokey here at the moment with so many controlled burns happening.
Great layout going to start building my layout this summer.
That’s great, enjoy the process. 👍
@@nessriverrailroad1299 I most sertanly will.
The scenery dominates the railroad👍👍👍 Ive subscribed !
I’m glad you like it. The plan for this end of the layout has always been for big scenery, a quiet area to just watch them roll by.
Dang thats a long train. Alan Shaw would be proud
Cheers. I originally started with UP power like many do but NS won me over with the landscapes they cover.
Just awesome mate
Cheers 👍
Cool!! Good run up the loop.
Cheers Bob.
Amazing David! looking so fantastic and a joy to watch... well done, deffo worth all the effort, shame about the editing 😃😜🤪
Thanks Tim, I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Enjoyed your video. Please share with us the maximum incline grade, and the minimum radius you used.
The grade is 1.5-2%. I’m not sure of the minimum radius, probably around 16 inch.
@@nessriverrailroad1299 Thanks!
Thanks!
amazing stuff
Cheers mate.
very nice train; I love long trains
It is great when they run well.
Very cool 🤠
It is isn’t it 😃
Where is Bert?
Bertie is always near by.
Are you trying to run a Pilbara ore train with coal?
You're slowly getting there.
2 to go. The end is in sight.
AWESOME!!!!!
Awesome
Kudos mate. Most time the joys outweighs the pain. That was impressive. How many turns in the helix?

🤠👋🚂💭
Are the 6 locos power required to pull the 44~ cars up that hill?
I usually run it will 4 Gevos, 2 on the head and 2 DPU. The DPUs help to stop the cars string lining.
