You know the Toyota frame recall/warranty? Yeah, the 4Runners were never covered under that, so 4th gen 4runner and GX470 owners are left to fend for themselves when it comes to either frame rust repair or frame replacement. Here's the kicker: the frames are now DISCONTINUED, so salvage frames are becoming more of a hot commodity. In this video, we find a clean salvage RWD V6 frame and convert ...

Updates on the Xterra: the rear differential had a LOT of metal stuck to the drain plug magnet. The transfer case and front diff were similar, but not quite as bad. I "fixed" the noisy radiator fan by replacing the incredibly viscous silica in the fan clutch with Lucas Oil Stabilizer, and I'm pretty sure I'm the first person to have ever done this. I LOVE my 2006 xterra and find it to be everything I need in a SUV CEPT, the head room on all the models was dipped up front I guess for the roof rack detox as when I get in and I'm only 5'8 I seriously have to lower my head getting in and I'm this same aspect it makes you wear out the edges of both driver and passenger side seats.

    I still own a 2009 FX4 with approximately 150K miles I bought new in 2009. Best and most dependable vehicle I’ve ever owned. Truck still looks great interior and exterior. Mine has 5.4 triton. Has never had any major mechanical problems. Only thing done to truck in over 15 years was tires, one battery and religiously changing oil every 3K miles ( all normal maintenance). The only non-maintenance item I’ve had problems with over 15 years are brake low pressure sensors. I’ve replaced them and idiot light is on again. Other than poor low tire pressure sensors…. Zero problems. Keep oil changed every 3000 miles and this year 5.4 is a great and reliable engine.

      So far, everything has been 100% flawless. The car is currently only at around 70k miles, but it’s been put through it’s paces. It seems like the key to longevity of these is to keep the oil fresh. The main issues with the B58’s are going to be oil leaks from valve cover gasket and oil filter housing. Those usually happen after 100k miles. I can’t say much about the diffs or driveshaft stuff, but drivetrain-wise, these are very solid cars, and I’m not aware of any common issues with the ZF tranny. No codes or sensor malfunction yet, either. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a used X3 of this generation, as long as it’s been cared for and it has the straight 6. I stand by everything I said in this video.

      I had that with the 4-cyl as well. But I think that’s actually a worn planetary gear in the transmission, due to low fluid at some point. At least that’s what it was with mine. It was leaking from my axle seal. I’d double check the tranny fluid level on yours

    @rikomendes3694 14 днів тому

    hi bro i just bought this car and i have one issue with it maybe you can give me advice. I also have a 2.4 automatic transmission. When I come to a stop in "D" mode at a traffic light and keep my foot on the brake pedal, the engine RPM drops to 600 rpm/min, and the hood, side mirrors, and steering wheel start shaking. When I turn on the air conditioner or headlights, the engine RPM increases to 750, and the vibrations are almost gone. I have visited many different mechanics, and they have replaced the entire suspension, steering system, shock absorbers, and engine mounts, but it didn't help. Perhaps you know what the problem could be? I haven't changed the spark plugs, and sometimes the engine makes a strange sound while driving, like "tak-tak-tak," but the sounds disappear when I increase the speed.

    • @NotSoHandyCarGuy
      @NotSoHandyCarGuy 14 днів тому

      Hey! Well, I can say it’s certainly not a suspension thing. You got screwed over by your mechanics first of all. It sounds more like a MAF sensor or throttle body issue. But before you go replacing those, check the hoses and lines and make sure everything’s connected, since it could be a vacuum leak. It’s also very easy to check/change spark plugs on those engines, so it’s worth a shot to replace those, since they’re cheap. How many miles on it? And have you been good about changing your oil on time?

    • @NotSoHandyCarGuy
      @NotSoHandyCarGuy 14 днів тому

      And when I say issues with your throttle body, I mean it could be your IAC (idle air control) valve. I’m not sure if they’re on the throttle bodies on these, I can’t remember. But a clogged one of those will cause issues at idle

    Some rav 4's are FWD. Good for city drivers. I found out when I had a chance at acquiring one from a family member. I thought it was a little 4x4 until I sat inside the vehicle and only saw one gear lever and no options to switch to 4x4. It's actually pretty quick for what it is, but no 4x4. It has a downhill button but the owner says it's a hindrance with everyday driving. My original plan - I was gonna put a huge lift on it, 35s on 16 inch rims, make front and rear steel bumpers, put a spare tyre on a carrier on the rear bumper instead of door. A roof basket to store traction boards, spare fuel and water and somewhere to mount LED lights, etc.

    Our '07 AWD EX-L has 230K on it with regular mx. Aside from normal mx, I've had to replace the blower motor, one of the ignition coils and the tensioner pulley for the serpentine belt. Mechanic replaced the engine and gearbox mounts. The suspension bushings are starting to show their wear with a lot of creaking over the bumps. I'm thinking LCA's and ball joints are coming up for replacement soon. It's seeping some fluid that I think is coming from the power steering system, but the our mechanic says the rear main seal needs to be replaced. Hoping it's not both! either way, the repairs are a heck of a lot cheaper than a new car. I don't care for all the safety features and cameras on modern vehicles, so I'll stick with just having VSC and ABS.

    I recently purchased a 2009 King Ranch edition truck and I must say, it's absolutely beautiful! The ride is smooth and comfortable just like a Cadillac. Initially, there was a ticking sound, which turned out to be the exhaust manifolds issue that is common in the F150s. Despite having 200k miles, everything feels tight and well-maintained by the previous owner. I particularly love the 3v 5.4 engine. Comparing it to my previously owned 2017 truck with a 5.0 coyote engine, I can confidently say that the 5.4 has more low-end torque, which is great for towing. I plan on keeping this truck forever. If the engine fails I'll just drop another one in as these engines are readily available due to being in production for decades.
