      Right! It's crazy that people see some surface rust and say "oh that car is very rusty." But they have never seen real rot before. Come to New England and we'll show you some rust. haha

    I'm sorry you had to drive that far for a frame. I live in Binghamton NY and then moved to Lexington SC and tried to keep an eye out for a good frame I've been to every pull-a-part from Atlanta to Ohio and I couldn't find a hood scoop nor a rear driver side window until I moved back to Binghamton and found a window at pick-a-part in horseheads, NY and I needed a gas tank strap and I was at Gary's U-pull it and I was taking the strap off and I was like this truck must be from down south because the straps are perfect and like 10seconds later it dawned on me that the frame was perfect and then I started to panic because I knew I had to get this. I was so happy it made me stupid because I didn't know what to do first. Not to mention I only had to remove the body mount bolts and cut off the rear end of it and that was it because the engine was already stripped out of it And got it for $255 not to mention I only had to drive 6 miles and my nephew had a flatbed so we loaded it up on that and drove 6 miles I'm just trying to figure out is it possible to swap the frame without removing the engine from the shell?

    Ive got a V8 and your video helped me because I have to move the transmission mount but not the motor mounts because the new frame is a 4x4 V6 frame. I'm so glad I don't have to move the mounts.

    is this the same 4runner u bought from that dealer 4 years ago for 9000? The frame looked kinda sus because it was all bumpy. I never trust an encapsulated frame from dealerships

      @NotSoHandyCarGuy  20 днів тому

      Yes! That’s the same one. If I had known more about what to look for at the time, I would have steered clear of it. And you’re 100% right to never trust dealer-sprayed frames.

    Your wallet would scream in even more agony if you'd buy a 2025 4Runner.😂

    Could you just swap the frame without removing the engine? If you can secure the engine with the shell..?

    • @NotSoHandyCarGuy
      @NotSoHandyCarGuy  17 днів тому

      Sorry, I’m just seeing your comments! If you have a v6 frame but are swapping the V8 in, you’ll need to move the motor mounts but NOT the transmission mount (I think). You’re in a better position than us in because you can leave that transmission crossmember in place and use that as a measurement to place your motor mounts in their new position. And to answer this question: no you’ll have to remove the engine. It’s a big job, but you’ve got this dude! Just work slowly and methodically through it.

    • @NotSoHandyCarGuy
      @NotSoHandyCarGuy  17 днів тому

      Also, make sure you take good measurements of your old frame first. Like where the motor mounts are in comparison to the tranny cross member. That way you can weld them into place at the correct distance

    Wow! This video could not have come out at a better time. I’m currently in the back half of my 4runner frame swap I’m essentially doing solo at a buddies house outside using his lift. I’m about two months into it working on it 3 or 4 times a week after work and on weekends. (20 minutes way from my house) The two months includes from delivery of the (rolling) frame I stripped it, wire wheeled best I could, primed and painted it. Also did a mild suspension / bushing re-fresh as well as brake components and other smaller stuff while I’m there. I’m currently stuck deciding what to do with my cracked passenger header, rusted and blown out body mounts and bolts and lower control arm hardware/bushings. I worked on the swap for a few hours today and came home after hitting a stopping point to see this video recommended in one of the 4 runner groups. My motivation is back and it helped me put in perspective of how much I really HAVE accomplished and what little is left!

      Hell yeah man you got this!!! Keep at it- it sounds like you're doing great. If I were to do it over again, I'd probably go with catted headers. There's a couple other options from smaller manufacturers. But DEFINITELY do the headers before you lower the body back on. The poly body mounts that I got are pretty decent- they don't hurt the ride too much. Plus they're way cheaper than OE. Got them on RockAuto. The only issue is that they don't come with new dowels, so you'll have to try to reuse the old ones. And if they're too rotted, get some pipe that's the same diameter and cut up the pipe to fit in the body mounts.
