Dirty Differentials & NEW Falken Wildpeak AT3W First Impressions! || 2014 Nissan Xterra

  • Updates on the Xterra: the rear differential had a LOT of metal stuck to the drain plug magnet. The transfer case and front diff were similar, but not quite as bad. I "fixed" the noisy radiator fan by replacing the incredibly viscous silica in the fan clutch with Lucas Oil Stabilizer, and I'm pretty sure I'm the first person to have ever done this. I also replaced the front and rear sway bar bushings, but we're still getting a clunking coming from the rear end.
    For the tires, the Falken Wildpeak AT3W's aren't quite as aggressive as we were hoping for, but they ride very well, and we're still excited to try them out in mild off road scenarios.

    Thats a lot of metal in the differentials! Glad the fluid change quieted them down.

      Yeah man, hopefully it didn’t do too much damage! Time will tell. I just can’t get rid of the rear end clunking. Maybe sway bar end links

    You won’t have any issues with your radiator/transmission by the way. That issue was fixed in 2011 by Nissan! The 2013 and up Xterras have like no issues besides the normal camshaft/crank sensor issues and the catalytic converters!

    I like the wildpeaks too I just put them on my rig a 04 land rover discovery, I went from 18s to 16s so the ride was so much smoother, they're very quiet on road too, haven't had them off road yet due to some unfortunate events with stolen catalytic converters and cut engine wiring but that's being taken care of

    Looks like I gotta do the rear diff after seeing yours , I just hit 150k
    I also have these Wild Peaks tires best decision ever. I have them at 50psi for a smoother ride

    Good on changing all the fluids and wow I'm surprised how much metal shaving you had there.. I did my diffs in the fall not sure when was the last time they were changed as my rear diff full plug was pretty rusty and partly stripped inside ... I had to get a new one but I didn't had that many shavings .. good thing also yours is newer model so don't have to worry about smod

      yeah man do the breather .. its not hard you can buy a kit.. or buy the parts yourself.. ( thats what I did.. cost me only $21 ) and I even thro a filter on front diff breather from that kit lol

      Definitely do the rear diff breather mod, anything is better than the oem one. I purchased mine from All Dogs Off-road.

    Did they say quiet after a year? How have they worn?
    If you do the fluids always make sure you make sure you open the fill plug before open the drain plug. If you can’t get the fill plug off then you should wait and have a pro with threading kit to drill out the fill plug.

      They’ve been great since. And yes, that’s good advice. Nothing would be worse than draining and not being able to refill.

    How are the sidewalls on those? Which load range are they?

    • @NotSoHandyCarGuy
      @NotSoHandyCarGuy  2 роки тому

      Sidewalls seem ok- definitely not the thickst, but I like them because it softens the ride a little bit. The load index is 112, 2469 pounds per tire

    You might want to swap the radiator too to make sure it doesn't ruin your transmission my happened at 140,000 . If you don't know what I'm talking about just look up frontier smod.
