The Forever Winter Could SAVE Modern Shooters
Переглядів 5 тис.2 місяці тому
The Forever Winter depicts a world of darkness and misery. Every step is like sticking your neck into a guillotine, praying that the blade won’t fall. Every bullet you fire could be your last. It’s a world that wants to kill you, to mangle your corpse, and string your remains on the cannon of a war machine. Despite this bleak future, the Forever Winter gives me greater hope in the future of sho...
Black Ops 3 is ALMOST the best campaign - a Retrospective
Переглядів 9 тис.2 місяці тому
Black Ops 3 takes place in a future with cybernetics, simulations, AI, and grand conspiracies, where nothing is ever as it seems on the surface. Black Ops 1 made us question the protagonist’s sanity, but Black Ops 3 makes us question the very nature of reality itself. Did its narrative succeed? Well, in the eyes of most players, it didn't. When the credits start to roll, the overwhelming respon...
Black Ops 2 BROKE the Mold - A Campaign Retrospective

Black Ops 2 is the most ambitious Call of Duty campaign of all time. The game introduces branching narrative paths. Your actions throughout the game influence the story’s outcome, from small details all the way up to the main conflict’s resolution. This grand narrative ambition is also paired with a host of new gameplay innovations. Without a doubt, Black Ops 2 shakes up the traditional campaig...
Black Ops crafts the PERFECT story | A Campaign Retrospective

Call of Duty: Black Ops is the best story in the franchise. But, it goes even further than that. I think Black Ops is one of the best stories in First Person Shooter history. In this retrospective, we're going to see why the Black Ops campaign is thrilling, engaging, and captivating from the opening up until the second the credits roll. But, what makes the story so captivating? How does it hook...
What the Final Shape is REALLY about - A Story Analysis
Переглядів 6344 місяці тому
The Final Shape is a momentous conclusion. It’s climatic, and the Light and Darkness saga wraps up in a neat, well-trimmed bow. But what really makes the Final Shape stand out to me is that the campaign truly knows the story it’s telling. Right down to the very bones. So, what is it about? What is this story, down to its barest bones, really about? Well, in this video essay, we will explore the...
Final Fantasy 14 is Gaming's Grandest Story

Final Fantasy XIV is the grandest story in video games. In this retrospective, I’m going to go into the lore, your friends, and your enemies, and explain just what makes them work so well in Final Fantasy 14. But, that greatness comes at a cost. I'm also going to analyze why Final Fantasy XIV is not a story for everybody in this essay. Final Fantasy XIV is an MMO in the vein of World of Warcraf...
We were WRONG about Destiny's campaign (A Retrospective)
Переглядів 8 тис.5 місяців тому
Destiny is almost ten years old now, and it’s a series that’s seen quite a few highs and lows. One of the lowest, without a doubt, is the launch of Destiny. It was a time of disappointment, especially in the campaign. I had heard so many bad things about Destiny's campaign by that point, so I never even bothered to finish it. Well, in the leadup to the Final Shape expansion, I finally went back...

Modern Warfare 3: The Burden of Success | A Campaign Essay
Переглядів 12 тис.6 місяців тому
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 had an impossible job. Its predecessor, Modern Warfare 2, cranked every emotional notch up to ten, delivering both the biggest, most exciting moments and the worst horrors. MW2 rode the knife’s edge, taking the action and intensity as far as it could go while not diving into the absurd. For some, even, Modern Warfare 2 went too far. Modern Warfare 3 had to follow ...
Modern Warfare 2: On the Knife's Edge (A Campaign Retrospective)
Переглядів 8 тис.7 місяців тому
Modern Warfare 2 is a masterclass in capturing visceral emotion. But, it's more controversial than its predecessor. For some, Modern Warfare 2 is a bigger, better, badder game, taking all the elements of Modern Warfare and cranking them up to eleven. For others, Modern Warfare 2 represents jumping the shark. The Michael Bey-efying of a series that once felt grounded, turning it into something s...

Killzone 1: Revisiting Playstation's Halo Killer | A Story Retrospective
Переглядів 3,6 тис.9 місяців тому
Killzone is a grim, gritty sci-fi fps series set in a bleak world where the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance, or ISA, warrs against the Helghan Empire. The series is a Playstation exclusive, and before the first games’ launch, it was even heralded as the Halo killer. Of course, with the power of hindsight, we can see that this future never came to be. Killzone spawned a number of sequels, but ...

For the no russain mission ive had the thought that if this was a movie showing the bad guys i dont think most people have a problem with it considering its probably been done a lot i.e. the bad guys killing civillians
Great stuff Calvin!
Thank you, I really appreciate it!
I loved the weapon crafting. I loved ds3. Didn't need to spend an extra dime on it either. What lesser men think about it is quite trite. Buddies who weren't brave enough to play deadspace, finally had the courage to do so by coop with me. Just wish Norton made more sense. Or at least it was made known he was losing himself to marker influence.
In a sea of Halo commentaries, this one really stands out. Great job and thank you!
Thank you, that really means a lot!
Cold War was one of the best CoDs ever made, had a great campaign, and an amazing multiplayer which is top 3 for me. The inclusion of Zakhaev in the campaign was super tryhard though
Black Ops 2 SUCKED the mold DRY
Wait i thought it was complete, but world at war IS the first
Hey, thanks for watching! World at War might be first chronologically, but it's not a Black Ops game - it doesn't really fit with the series identity that I'm covering in this video. I am planning a different video that includes WAW. I appreciate you checking out the video and sharing your thoughts :)
He said in some other comment since it doesn’t have black ops in the title he didn’t wanna add it
I watched this whole thing on accident while sleeping
Yes, I am in the same boat as you. I was going to sleep, but this popped up, and now I am invested.
Nice haha! Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
MW2 2009 was a golden game. Not only the single player, but man the multiplayer is the best online experience I ever had.
For sure! The game came out at just the right time too. It really was lightning in a bottle.
@@calvinfishermedia It impacted me so much, that I still think about online multiplayer matches that I have played to this day. I still think about how my team and I could've won some very heated matches. What I would do to go back in time just to play this magical game again.
@@phil_matic same here. To go back and play MW2 with old friends again, like in the old days… what I wouldn’t give. Glad to see the game had such an impact on you too!
MAC MILLAN IS SOAP MM
The only other games that do the dark grungy look actually well are the manhunt games, quake, doom 64
I haven't checked out the manhunt series, but I definitely agree about quake and doom! Thanks for watching.
It's even better when you realize that the plan that the prisoners are saying is actually how you complete the orgins easter egg! it's very clever
yet another video appreciating the REAL best spiderman game
It’s truly such a gem! I’m glad to see others appreciate it as much as I do.
I still love to play this game. Unfortunately, I have two different discs and both glitch during the venom chase and make it impossible to beat 🥲
I thoroughly enjoyed this whole video from start to finish man, definitely watching any video of yours I see from now on
Thanks man, I really appreciate that! I’m happy you enjoyed the video
this sounds really reminiscent to mgsv
I definitely see the parallels! Thanks for watching.
At 1:03:00 they don't work with the cartel they are working with noriega's army
You are right, good catch!
One slight disagreement i think the trilogy's increase in balls to the walls explosions is a good thing. Mainly because it feels like the series is just getting bigger overtime
That’s definitely fair! I see where you’re coming from. There are a lot of great climatic moments in the 2 and 3rd games. Thanks for watching.
Just now realizing Resnovs escape plan is the origins Easter egg
Ah, I didn’t know that! Interesting. Thanks for sharing
@@calvinfishermedia that’s really the only Easter egg Ik by heart but I wonder if there any other missions that directly relate to zombies
BLOPS!!!! (Black ops)
🤤the story. I miss it
Such a good series! I feel like there aren’t any other stories in gaming that hit the same espionage MK ultra vibe that black ops does
@ the mysteries and conspiracy behind it all. Amazing
My good sir, I need you to do COD Ghosts. Multiplayer was okay. But the campaign was AMAZING
The war in ghosts is dumb
I do want to cover Ghosts at some point! I think its near post-apocalyptic setting is really unique and would be fun to cover. I have a handful of videos planned so not sure when I’d get to it. Thanks for watching!
All things considered, black ops 3s story was pretty ambitious, the execution was pretty bad though
That’s a great way to describe it in a nutshell! Ambitious but flawed execution. Thanks for sharing
the point you make about the characters being like action figures without moving mouths or facial expressions is an interesting point I hadn't thought of. Pretty astute observation
The game really takes me back to my childhood, which is probably how I thought of that comparison haha. Thanks for watching!
i never been this confused .i jsut watched it twice and i still don't know what just happened.but the effect were cool tho and the lines in campaign
Yeah the campaign’s story is a real mind bender haha! There are a ton of ways to interpret it. Thanks for watching!
wheres world at war?
Thanks for checking out the video! There are a couple of reasons it isn’t here. First, this is a video focused on Black Ops’s identity, and while WAW is in the same continuity, it is not a black ops game. Second, I have another video idea that WAW fits better into, and I didn’t want to cover it twice. Thanks for watching, appreciate it!
let’s also not forget that Cold War was made in less than a year due to development issues (sledgehammer was making it at first and Treyarch took over only a few months before release) and was still this good…
Great point! It is impressive that CW turned out how it did in light of the rocky development
1:29:24 you could also say if you didn’t kill him, he could use his contacts to somehow escape and be right back at it again. He’s shown himself to be able to outsmart the best militaries and leaders in the world and has a loyal following of around 1/4-1/5 (depending on the global population in the game) million people. He’s too dangerous to be left alive. Sure a martyr is dangerous.. but arguably he would be more dangerous out calling shots again.
That is definitely a fair analysis too! Thanks for sharing your insight
A huge problem with the multi-player right now is that all the guns I've used shoot significantly slower than when playing solo.
Weird, I haven’t heard about that! Hopefully they get that issue sorted out. Thanks for watching.
The problem with Black Ops: Cold War, is that the Campaign/Perseus plot is finished throughout the multiplayer Season cutscenes / Warzone which take place after the story. It’s a thing that started with MW2019, and continued with Black Ops Cold War
Definitely not a fan of this! The campaign’s story should be concluded in the campaign itself. Thanks for watching and sharing.
14:31 Just completely ruining the twist in the first game. I get it but damn.
I used to give spoiler warnings before every video, but I received consistent feedback from viewers that it wasn’t necessary. Given this is a four hour video about the campaigns of the games, it seems safe to assume that it will be the story in its entirety. Still, with that said, I’m sorry if something was spoiled for you. Thanks for watching!
This a good ass video
Thanks I appreciate it :)!
mw19 revived cod, cold war continued it and Vanguard killed it
Have you tried BO6? Curious if it’s revived the series in your eyes or not!
turn to Jesus Christ he loves all of us more than anything and he literally died for us. He took in the punishment for our sins thru on the cross. It wasn’t cuz we deserved it, but cuz he loved us. 1 John 4:10 “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” it was thru his love that he died for us and we can be forgiven
That’s what I’m talking about brother let’s go
Yeah but why on this video
i think something important to note about killing/sparing menendez also ties into the themes of revenge and suffering. menendez suffered by capitalism and it’s consequences, seeking revenge against the US woods suffered at the hand of menendez, and sought revenge, killing his sister. menendez suffered by woods killing his sister, so he tortured both woods and section section can continue this suffering/revenge cycle, killing menendez, causing the suffering of members of cordis die, and the inevitable revenge they then went for. or, he can end it, break the cycle and free himself, woods, everyone. its why i love bo2 so much, a good theme plus that really dynamic storyline is such a great thing.
This is a good analysis of the choice at the end! Thanks for sharing.
great video, very much mirrors how I feel about the game, and you're absolutely right about the water mechanic. It adds nothing to the game but punishes people who take a break. I LOVE the game enough to put up with the water system, but make no mistake, I can't see anyone enjoying the water system, only tolerating it. I do feel like the game is a little underbaked, but in a way that's acceptable for an early access game, and it just makes me more excited to see whats to come as it has even more time in the oven.
Well said! I put up with the water system too because the rest of the game really connects with me. They recently announced a water V2 so hopefully that is a better rendition of the feature! Thanks for watching.
GREATEST GAME EVER! Amazing video!
Thanks for watching!!
Oh now yall like cold war after the disaster that is the new mw series ? i knew i wasn’t crazy for liking it day 1
I was a fan of the campaign since the start! But opinion on the game overall has warmed since its release
The whole water system makes no sense. Why is there still barrels of water laying around for people to find. Just have the scavengers go to a water purification plant that managed to survive or something.
I just assumed it was water that the warring factions had gathered and we’re stealing it out from under their noses lol
@@calvinfishermedia Yeah I was talking about it with other people when I realized that I was wrong in my assumption that all the enemies in the game were robots or bioweapons and not people. I thought the Scavs were all that's left of humanity.
Love the vid my guy
Thanks I really appreciate it!!
Subscribed love this man
Thanks man! I really appreciate that.
Really enjoy this while playing BO6 ❤
Awesome! Thanks for checking out the video. How are you liking BO6? I’m really enjoying the campaign so far
What about declassified or is it not canon
I think it was at one point but it got retconned. Either way, this video is focused on the mainline entries in the series and how its identity has evolved. Thanks for watching!
Nice video. Something worth mentioning I came across Back in the day when I first played this game. I could be wrong… but… EVERYBODY IN THIS GAME IS THE BAD GUYS. Everybody names is in Red with subtitles.
Oh, that’s really interesting! I noticed it in Cold War but not the original
Im 14 minutes in and already subscribed, you deserve so many more subs that you have the depth you go into made me realize how much i missed
Thanks that means a lot! Appreciate the kind feedback :)
