Flashback scenes like All Ghillied Up are perfect for heavily scripted moments. It allows you to play the memory, while it plays the exact same every time, as if it's unchanging, like how history is. Flashback missions are the best possible use case for scripted missions
17:23 When I initially played COD4:MW when I was 9, my game bugged out and wouldn't let me leave the helicopter. I was just left, stuck on a burning helicopter with the half conscious, bloodied body of a fellow marine. Eventually, I just decided to wait, watching the sparking lights on a fusebox in the helicopter. All I could see of the outside world was a small window, showing nothing but a mushroom cloud. It let me sit there and think about what just went down. After about a minute , the game just let the character bleed out and everything fade. For the longest time, I thought this bugged moment was actually how it was designed, and I still think it felt perfect. A dying marine, simply watching the sparks on a broken helicopter light up, indulging in his thoughts for a little while until death. It wasn't until around 2018 when my buddies and I played CoD4:MW Remastered that I realized what I experienced was a glitch that still fit the storytelling perfectly

As a Brit I can confirm this is extremely accurate for our senses of humour, it really humanises the SAS if you’re familiar with our type of comedy as well as keeping them badass
I think the big difference between the original trilogy and newer cods is “show don’t tell”- in the originals you don’t need to be told that taking the gloves off is messy, like price having to tell that to gaz/player. Instead you see stuff like ghost about to torture Rojas and price detonating a nuke
Definitely! I did feel like the newer games hammered that in a little too hard. The older games felt a lot more natural as far as portraying gray moral situations
I didn’t mind it in mw2019 cuz it made for a good scene/quote but then it just kept being restated in slightly different words and just lost its muster. The og trilogy does it so much better

The og mw Price came from a Cold War generation. Where he knew war comes when you don’t want to come to you. And so he does. While new gen price tells you what not to do.
1:35:35 You're actually pretty spot on, Shepard and Sandman have history, as they were all part of an operation that happened between MW1 and MW2, called Operation Kingfish. This is hinted at in Soap's Journal that you get as part of MW2's collector's edition, in the form of a photo of the group before the Op. As well as a prequel movie that was released, called Find Makarov: Operation Kingfish. You should check it out
You mentioned that you don’t know why Price trusts Sandman. That’s because you left some important parts of the story out. 1, Operation Kingfish which was a short film about TF141 attempting to hunt down Makarov. In the film Sandman and Frost are seen as a Delta force sniper team working with TF141 on the operation. Also this shows how Price was captured in the first place and sent to the gulag. 2, mile high club. Mile high club is one of the first operations TF141 does and at the end of the mission they rescue a hostage who gives them intel on Makarov. Not too important to the story but still gives TF141 some lore that pieces everything together. Also a side note is that it seems to be implied that MW2019 was originally meant to be a MW trilogy prequel but was later turned into a reboot with them setting it in the modern day. That’s just unconfirmed piece of information that I think people should look into because it starts to make sense. I mean really all they had to do was change the year from the early 2000s to 2019, change Gaz from white to black and make him younger, and then change some various other details.
I love cod 4's AC130 mission. I know people personally who have worked in AC130's, and they have told me that the banter and chatter coming from the AC130 crew members in that mission, is very realistic.

I think the reboot did have a few interesting innovations like the night vision missions, but overall I agree. They don’t quite capture the same spark as the OG trilogy. Thanks for watching!
@@calvinfishermedia I did like the ghost and soap relationship, as well as the whole El Sin Nombre plot. I'm just vexxed that Soap was killed by Makarov (again), General Shepherd did a betrayal (again) and Shepherd died( in the form of a cutscene in a cutscene filled game)
I think a really cool aspect of this trilogy is that it’s telling Price’s story through the eyes of others, and you never play as him (save for a flashback) until the final mission
There is actually a reason as to why MW3's ending is abrupt, a day before this video was uploaded, someone was able to restore a deleted post-credits scene in which Price sees a unknown character entering the Hotel after killing Makarov, after the unknown character leaves Price passes out and seemingly dies, the screen fades to black and the OP Kingfish photo is shown afterwards. Unfortunately nobody really knows what this scene was supposed to mean, who the unknown character is or why the scene was cut in the first place. I have seen some say it was Death taking Price's body although it sounds a bit weird imo, while others say it was a tease for an unreleased MW4 that got replaced by Ghosts. Either way i thought it would be interesting to talk about this.
It’s better that it ended with Makarov’s death and the world is rebuilding. At least. For now. Maybe the ghosts game has more of potential spiritual successor of the og modern warfare series.

Besides, the model for this unknown character was of a FSO guard that was originally used in the airplane mission, i have seen people speculating that this FSO guard had connections with Makarov and that he would have been the villain for MW4 had it released. However i think it was just a placeholder for a villain that had to yet be created had IW gone forward with continuing the MW series.

You saying that the modern warfare trilogy is a perfect storm, and me finding this video after losing all 3 of my original discs, then getting the first 2 games from my grandfather, and finding the 3rd for 10 bucks cash. And getting to play through the entire trilogy myself and let all the memories and emotions of the story sink in once again. Is truly the perfect storm for me.
To me, the grey palete of mw3 shows how the violence and atrocities have become the new normal, right from the beginning. Compared to previous games where the palete slowly turns more and more dark red to indicate a decent into chaos, mw3 starts out in chaos, and slowly crawls its way back out.
I fricken love Sheppard's into in MW2. The line "The more things change, the more they stay the same." Has always stuck with since I first hear it when the game launched.
Sandman is such an underrated character and it’s a shame they didn’t bring him back for the reboot trilogy. His death is also underrated and I love how heartbroken price is over it too, it does show they have some history together that I wish we could know more about.
1:30:00 when you’re talking about the gas attack and that it would’ve been better showing from the SAS POV, it actually does. If you turn off mature content it completely skips over the family and stays as the SAS
this has to be one of the best retrospective videos I’ve watched in a while. I spent so much time playing these campaigns and loving the craftsmanship and art of these games. Though I never fully appreciated those things since I was only a kid, as an adult having someone take the time to play through, break down, and allow me to recollect everything is truly special. This video is absolutely amazing. Rock on.
Fun fact after soap dies Price has alternative lines for Yuri in the following stealth mission At on point price tells Yuri to take someone down and if u take long enough Price will says something along the lines of "what's wrong lost ur edge? lemme show u how it's done" and then proceed to do the takedown himself likewise later in the level a similar alternative line can be heard if u don't blow up the bridge in time
Black Ops 1 and 2 are amazing campaigns for sure. I enjoyed Cold War, but I feel like I’m still waiting for the third great Black Ops campaign. Thanks for watching!
Fun fact, in COD4, if you shoot at the car Yuri and Makarov are in during all ghilied up, you will get a friendly fire failure. None of the other vehicles have a failure state applied to them. I believe this was added in a patch before MW3 released to maintain continuity between games.
MW2 was the first FPS game I ever played and I still remember playing MW2/MW3 multiplayer with my siblings for hours and hours after school. and the Spec Ops missions trying to beat them all on Veteran and failing time and again until we got it. Only in the past year have i had a chance to try MW1 and damn is it great! Thank you for this video sharing your look on these games that played (pun intended) such a pivotal reason why I value good storytelling and gameplay in whatever I play.

Dude watching this video brought back alot of memories lol the ranger missions from mw2 are my favorite as well! I only forgot that mission is why I always get excited whenever I see the burger town sign in every game
I love the burger town references too! I remember being really excited for that Advanced Warfare zombies map because it took place at a burger town lol.
The MW3 "shock value" scene is actually pretty good considering how it replicates an idea of "found footage" if you put it as "oh well we were just introduced to them" sure it won't land because you're taking it as characters to be invested in, it's more of you watching a family's vacation go sour, knowing that this is pretty much their only remnant if that makes sense.

A point for not targeting/firing on the church is clarified in other cod titles. The player is to not strike the church as it’s a place for civilians to gather for safety in the midst of conflict
I love your video! All three games are master pieces. Mw3 had a perfect ending for how great the cod4 and mw2 campaigns were. I probably replayed mw3 the most. Mw3 felt like they weren't very innovative, but perfected what cod 4 and mw2 had, in campaign (compared to mw2), multiplayer, and spec ops.

Mw3 could've shown the gas attack. Even killing the family, but through the eyes of pte-established operators. Rounding a street, noticing the van and truing to apprehend the targets only to witness the bystanders being slain

Man, I have to play through one of these games at least once a year, mostly MW3 as I’ve personally always loved it as the best one, but the other 2 are still masterpieces in their own right.
@@calvinfishermedia Honestly it’s crazy to me that I loved the MW3 so much that when I finally got it again after a couple years of not playing it, I ended up beating it in Veteran within the span of 2 days.

@@calvinfishermedia So did some digging and found some stuff: Price has some cut lines adressing Frost directly in mission (couldn't find) The DLC spec ops mission Black Ice has you play as him, noted by the same callsign metal 0-4 as you sabatoge another part of the base with whoever player 2 is meant to be. Though that brings up canonicity of spec ops missions or dev talk which is sketchy for the former and I completely disregard the latter in any scenario
I’m doing Destiny 1 next, a bit of a curveball lol! Hope to cover the waw/black ops games eventually though! Black ops 1 especially is one of my favorite cod games of all time

MW3 is a great game but the pacing was the main issue for me. It's a mirror image of MW1. Where the first game had a handful of high impact levels broken up by more "normal" levels for lack of a better term. While 3 is basically back to back wild missions with the occasional stealth or standard combat missions to give you a break. It essentially dulls the players senses to the point where the cinematics stop being a "holy s**t" moment and more a "oh god damnit not again". The levels on their own, are phenomenal moments, the eifel tower collapsing, the plane ride Down a mountain side, the boat ride between Russian ships after you turn their weapons against them. Those are some of the most impactful and shocking moments that, on their own, are glorious. Boot up MW3 and just play those missions. I guarantee that you will feel the shock and awe the devs wanted you to feel. But when you play them back to back, you genuinely forget certain things even happen. I genuinely completely forgot about the ending where you hang Makarov. It just didn't hit as hard as Shepard or zakiev's death.
Mw2 is the perfect fps story to me because it wholly encapsulates two of the top storyline types and does so to near perfection you get the high octane james bond esc escapades of task force 141 which borders on the ridiculous then the grounded patriotic defense of the homeland specifically the mission where you storm the white house in a race against the clock is a showcase moment
28:23 Pretty sure they did get accomindations, just not publically. Since after his death in 3 you can see Soap has several British millitary accomidations which include the Victoria cross which is the highest award, which seems more likely for events as SAS in CoD4 rather than an international task force that had him branded an international terrorist by the end of it

Personally I feel like all the scenes of explosions and crazy things happening in MW3 are perfect for the game. As this was known to be the last of the trilogy, and the setting that the world was in I feel like that it all makes sense. The world is falling apart and the devs want you to know that
I played MW2 when I was a kid but that’s the only one I ever played from the trilogy (ofc I’ve seen gameplay from the other two) but from what I can tell and know is this trilogy will never be topped not even mw3 I think the reason most people don’t like it very much is because the first two were perfect and the third was only great
Frost is responsible for the mine collapse, in dlc spec ops he was sent to activate the auto destruction sequence as the rest of his team with price and Yuri went to get the president. In short he killed his teammates 😢

How I think the "shock" scene from MW3 could've been better, still including the family, would've been to show their vacation. Their house still in tatters from the war in the states (haven't played MW3 in a while, I think they're American) and such they take a vacation to get from the destruction. They arrive, recording the airport, the trip to their destination, visits around London and just bits around the hotel room, getting to know the family. Overcoming losses while the kids sleeps, having fun in another environment, bit like this. The way it would be shown could've been between missions. Before or maybe even after each mission brief. Starting at the start of the game, all the way up to this point. Then the bomb. Have the van near miss them as they cross a narrow street, heading to Big Ben. Have the husband or wife react to the driver with choice words as the van disappears down the narrow street. The cuss to each other as they walk off. Then the bomb detonates. The parents fall as the affect of the gas soon castles them. Its a slow, painful scene to watch as the parents are on the floor riding in pain. Through the smoke the little kid's silhouette is seen stumbling. Forward coughing, crying. The parents fall silent as the kid fall into her mothers arms, vegging her for help before silence falls upon the family. Distant panicking heard before that too soon falls quiet as the gas takes them. Leaving the camera recording for a while. Still on the family, lead there. Far more affective I think. I get the unrealistic nature of the child standing longer than her parents, but come on. From what the game throws at us prior to this event.
One slight disagreement i think the trilogy's increase in balls to the walls explosions is a good thing. Mainly because it feels like the series is just getting bigger overtime
Honestly, the family visiting London could have been given so much more weight if like between missions there were clips of them in London, or more than just the one clip. It would give it a hitchcockian suspense, wonder what was gonna happen
One thing I’ve always noticed about modern warfare one, is how the Americans go into the Middle East, full of bravado thinking that it will be very easy to find Al-Asad. It’s telling that they have no reason to be there, and one of the first things you see in the American campaign is oil rigs and derricks. The Marines are brutally killed by insurgents, and although they technically have the better fire power - they are nearly always at a disadvantage. They attack a tv station, and Al-Sad was never there. They then have to rescue a tank miles off where it’s meant to be, and only barely do so. They have to wait with said tank all night, presumably not getting any rest. Finally they then have to escort the tank through busy streets, constantly being flanked and dogged by untrained terrorists wielding very old weaponry. Finally they attack Al-Sad’s palace, saving an outnumbered squad and a downed pilot - for then thousands to be killed by a Soviet era warhead. My point is that in many respects, it was showing how this has happened so many times. A bigger, seemingly more powerful nation (who had no right to be there) to be totally overran by an technologically inferior enemy.

You've mentioned you like when we don't always win, would you have preferred the plane just explode and we see a boring cutscene of Makarov taking Vorshevsky? Both the ball of fire launching at the plane followed by a black screen and the slow down of Makarov opening the door still give me chills to this day. How it makes you numb is beyond me. 1:28:04 Oh yeah, trains are known for stopping very quickly. I dont believe that exit is where they intended to stop. If you do, so be it, but with them clearly attempting to go to the surface, I strongly doubt they wanted to stop there. The SAS could have also hit the brakes at any point and not flipped. That would have been the only valid criticism to me. I suppose also them shaking off a vehicle crash, but eh. 1:28:12 Predictable? You were able to predict how missions would end in MW3? On your first play through? By God you should be a psychic then. The last word I would use to describe mw3 is predictable 1:28:20 So because every mission is really good none of them are? How liberal do we wanna be with that mindset. That's a very slippery slope. 1:29:10 This is woven so much more naturally into its narrative than either of the 2 you mentioned prior. A nuke just happens to be in that city and Allen not stopping No Russian by just shooting Makarov are way more unbelievable than a surprise gas attack across Germany. Especially the way they popped off. In No Russian the attack was known about and could have been stopped during or before, by Allen. In the Nuke mission, if they had known (or even thought) one was there they never would have set foot in the city, not even for that dude or the helicopter pilot. 1:29:51 That's the point! It's supposed to just be a random family. A random, commonplace civilian. It shows you how quickly something like this can happen, and that it affected everyone. 1:30:00 Oh because no Russian doesn't attempt to pull your heart strings where you're literally asked to shoot civilians for no other reason than "it'll help us get closer to Makarov." 1:30:08 So it's hard to get immersed because an innocent family that is created to die is killed? How. I'm truly asking, how. 1:30:33 Now you're criticizing mw3 for NOT going bigger or more unrealistic than it's predecessors when you've been bashing the game for doing exactly that the entire time???? Pick a ground to stand on and stick with it dude. Also, a nationwide gas attack followed by an invasion is pretty big to me, much bigger than one airport shooting and arguably close to a nuke. 1:37:15 I agree, but for a different reason. I don't like when a character survives a wound that they shouldn't have, and a van t-boning a tiny car directly in the passenger seat, where Volk is sitting, into a wall should have killed him. I want to specify; I don't like when they take a should-be-fatal wound and then just magically survive. Yuri falling down the cliff into the water works because he didn't fall onto a spike or hard rocks directly or anything like that. 1:39:21 No, the point is very clearly to show just how much damage the war is doing on EVERYBODY. Nobody is immune from it. Not even Paris, where the main protagonists and antagonists aren't even from and have no special relationship with. 1:40:00 "If there's an opportunity to go bigger, mw3 takes it" ???? Not 10 minutes ago you were criticizing mw3 for NOT having a bigger and more shocking event, and now they take every opportunity to go big?? i love call of duty campaigns. cod4 and mw3 will always be some of my favorite ones. i think black ops trilogy is also really fun too. Oh no i dont mean black ops 3 although that game is fun mostly due to zombies. i mean waw-bo2. the true black ops trilogy in my eyes. i enjoy all 6 of these games including advanced warfare, primarily for gameplay aspect. call of duty will always have such a special place in my heart

honestly one of the best trilogies in gaming history, mw1 felt great, it was revolutionary back then, then mw2 oh god, i can tell you that it's every mission is iconic af, truly the best here, then mw3 maybe dull in comparison to mw2 but man the death of soap and ending is so well done, IW failed to deliver the same fun in the new MW series, only mw19 felt luke like the real deal
they need to remaster COD: MW3 (with additional cutscenes and that hidden cutscene discovered where Price passes out/dies) - btw GREAT VIDEO with the info

Price trust sandman is because of operation kingfisher which was a short film. Edit, you should also pay a bit more attention to the radio in the background of the delta missions in mw3, especially in iron lady. Also with that mission i found lower difficulty setting ruin what it was going for but it comes accross super well on higher difficulties as you more or less start seeing huge numbers of russian vehicles and soldiers pouring in and start to feel hopeless only for the airsupport to rip through destroying the remaining supports of the tower while hitting the russians as the people on the ground are more important. Ha i suck at writing and hate howlong i made that but i hope i got what im saying across
What you said makes sense! It is interesting how different difficulties influence how missions come across. I have played on regular and hardened, and even across those some missions feel like they give off a different atmosphere at times.
1:03:07 this actualy has real world logic, the Russian and previous Soviet military was very reliant on its officers, an issue it's facing IRL in ukrane, the US is known for teaching its troops to function in small units and tend to train more autonomy into their forces and have invested much heavier into their NCOs but also even with their officers the ability to quickly establish a new chain of command when links in the existing one get swacked
I love the detail in MW2 of one of the russian soldiers raiding a fridge in the house with the crashed plane. Very realistic in context of the Ukraine war lmao Edit: also the riot shield shower room from the gulag was re-used in MW2019 as the gulag fight room in Warzone
I agree with your analysis of mw3 at the end of the video for the most part but I would say without all the big explosives and crazy set pieces mw3 wouldn’t be what it was. I think because of how the story panned out and how makarov basically started another world war it had to be a lot of bang bang but in different ways from the plane to the train to the chemical weapons and etc without that it wouldn’t live up to its story and makarov’s plans. Flashback scenes like All Ghillied Up are perfect for heavily scripted moments. It allows you to play the memory, while it plays the exact same every time, as if it's unchanging, like how history is. Flashback missions are the best possible use case for scripted missions

When I initially played COD4:MW when I was 9, my game bugged out and wouldn't let me leave the helicopter. I was just left, stuck on a burning helicopter with the half conscious, bloodied body of a fellow marine. Eventually, I just decided to wait, watching the sparking lights on a fusebox in the helicopter. All I could see of the outside world was a small window, showing nothing but a mushroom cloud. It let me sit there and think about what just went down. After about a minute , the game just let the character bleed out and everything fade. For the longest time, I thought this bugged moment was actually how it was designed, and I still think it felt perfect. A dying marine, simply watching the sparks on a broken helicopter light up, indulging in his thoughts for a little while until death. It wasn't until around 2018 when my buddies and I played CoD4:MW Remastered that I realized what I experienced was a glitch that still fit the storytelling perfectly

I think the big difference between the original trilogy and newer cods is “show don’t tell”- in the originals you don’t need to be told that taking the gloves off is messy, like price having to tell that to gaz/player. Instead you see stuff like ghost about to torture Rojas and price detonating a nuke
Definitely! I did feel like the newer games hammered that in a little too hard. The older games felt a lot more natural as far as portraying gray moral situations
I didn’t mind it in mw2019 cuz it made for a good scene/quote but then it just kept being restated in slightly different words and just lost its muster. The og trilogy does it so much better

You're actually pretty spot on, Shepard and Sandman have history, as they were all part of an operation that happened between MW1 and MW2, called Operation Kingfish. This is hinted at in Soap's Journal that you get as part of MW2's collector's edition, in the form of a photo of the group before the Op. As well as a prequel movie that was released, called Find Makarov: Operation Kingfish. You should check it out

You mentioned that you don’t know why Price trusts Sandman. That’s because you left some important parts of the story out. 1, Operation Kingfish which was a short film about TF141 attempting to hunt down Makarov. In the film Sandman and Frost are seen as a Delta force sniper team working with TF141 on the operation. Also this shows how Price was captured in the first place and sent to the gulag. 2, mile high club. Mile high club is one of the first operations TF141 does and at the end of the mission they rescue a hostage who gives them intel on Makarov. Not too important to the story but still gives TF141 some lore that pieces everything together. Also a side note is that it seems to be implied that MW2019 was originally meant to be a MW trilogy prequel but was later turned into a reboot with them setting it in the modern day. That’s just unconfirmed piece of information that I think people should look into because it starts to make sense. I mean really all they had to do was change the year from the early 2000s to 2019, change Gaz from white to black and make him younger, and then change some various other details.

Thats the reason why you can go back and replay og mw trilogy and still feel like your playing it for the first time

There is actually a reason as to why MW3's ending is abrupt, a day before this video was uploaded, someone was able to restore a deleted post-credits scene in which Price sees a unknown character entering the Hotel after killing Makarov, after the unknown character leaves Price passes out and seemingly dies, the screen fades to black and the OP Kingfish photo is shown afterwards.
Unfortunately nobody really knows what this scene was supposed to mean, who the unknown character is or why the scene was cut in the first place. I have seen some say it was Death taking Price's body although it sounds a bit weird imo, while others say it was a tease for an unreleased MW4 that got replaced by Ghosts.
Either way i thought it would be interesting to talk about this.

Could it be Frost? Nikolai was not as the scene, we never saw Frost's face, and there aren't many relevant characters left after MW3.

Besides, the model for this unknown character was of a FSO guard that was originally used in the airplane mission, i have seen people speculating that this FSO guard had connections with Makarov and that he would have been the villain for MW4 had it released.
However i think it was just a placeholder for a villain that had to yet be created had IW gone forward with continuing the MW series.

To me, the grey palete of mw3 shows how the violence and atrocities have become the new normal, right from the beginning. Compared to previous games where the palete slowly turns more and more dark red to indicate a decent into chaos, mw3 starts out in chaos, and slowly crawls its way back out.

Fun fact, in COD4, if you shoot at the car Yuri and Makarov are in during all ghilied up, you will get a friendly fire failure. None of the other vehicles have a failure state applied to them. I believe this was added in a patch before MW3 released to maintain continuity between games.

MW2 was the first FPS game I ever played and I still remember playing MW2/MW3 multiplayer with my siblings for hours and hours after school. and the Spec Ops missions trying to beat them all on Veteran and failing time and again until we got it.
Only in the past year have i had a chance to try MW1 and damn is it great!

The MW3 "shock value" scene is actually pretty good considering how it replicates an idea of "found footage" if you put it as "oh well we were just introduced to them" sure it won't land because you're taking it as characters to be invested in, it's more of you watching a family's vacation go sour, knowing that this is pretty much their only remnant if that makes sense.

I love your video! All three games are master pieces. Mw3 had a perfect ending for how great the cod4 and mw2 campaigns were. I probably replayed mw3 the most. Mw3 felt like they weren't very innovative, but perfected what cod 4 and mw2 had, in campaign (compared to mw2), multiplayer, and spec ops.

Man, I have to play through one of these games at least once a year, mostly MW3 as I’ve personally always loved it as the best one, but the other 2 are still masterpieces in their own right.
They're so fun to revisit! It's nice that they can be beaten in a weekend, so I like replaying them between longer games.

The DLC spec ops mission Black Ice has you play as him, noted by the same callsign metal 0-4 as you sabatoge another part of the base with whoever player 2 is meant to be. Though that brings up canonicity of spec ops missions or dev talk which is sketchy for the former and I completely disregard the latter in any scenario
What’s up next on the docket? Maybe the WaW/Black Ops 1+2 since was all know they didn’t make anymore BO games

MW3 is a great game but the pacing was the main issue for me. It's a mirror image of MW1. Where the first game had a handful of high impact levels broken up by more "normal" levels for lack of a better term. While 3 is basically back to back wild missions with the occasional stealth or standard combat missions to give you a break. It essentially dulls the players senses to the point where the cinematics stop being a "holy s**t" moment and more a "oh god damnit not again". The levels on their own, are phenomenal moments, the eifel tower collapsing, the plane ride Down a mountain side, the boat ride between Russian ships after you turn their weapons against them. Those are some of the most impactful and shocking moments that, on their own, are glorious. Boot up MW3 and just play those missions. I guarantee that you will feel the shock and awe the devs wanted you to feel. But when you play them back to back, you genuinely forget certain things even happen. I genuinely completely forgot about the ending where you hang Makarov. It just didn't hit as hard as Shepard or zakiev's death.
100 percent agree! The missions are great on their own, but when there is crazy mission after crazy mission, it dulls you. Well said.

Mw2 is the perfect fps story to me because it wholly encapsulates two of the top storyline types and does so to near perfection you get the high octane james bond esc escapades of task force 141 which borders on the ridiculous then the grounded patriotic defense of the homeland specifically the mission where you storm the white house in a race against the clock is a showcase moment

Since after his death in 3 you can see Soap has several British millitary accomidations which include the Victoria cross which is the highest award, which seems more likely for events as SAS in CoD4 rather than an international task force that had him branded an international terrorist by the end of it

I played MW2 when I was a kid but that’s the only one I ever played from the trilogy (ofc I’ve seen gameplay from the other two) but from what I can tell and know is this trilogy will never be topped not even mw3 I think the reason most people don’t like it very much is because the first two were perfect and the third was only great

Frost is responsible for the mine collapse, in dlc spec ops he was sent to activate the auto destruction sequence as the rest of his team with price and Yuri went to get the president. In short he killed his teammates 😢

How I think the "shock" scene from MW3 could've been better, still including the family, would've been to show their vacation. Their house still in tatters from the war in the states (haven't played MW3 in a while, I think they're American) and such they take a vacation to get from the destruction. They arrive, recording the airport, the trip to their destination, visits around London and just bits around the hotel room, getting to know the family. Overcoming losses while the kids sleeps, having fun in another environment, bit like this. The way it would be shown could've been between missions. Before or maybe even after each mission brief. Starting at the start of the game, all the way up to this point.
Then the bomb.
Have the van near miss them as they cross a narrow street, heading to Big Ben. Have the husband or wife react to the driver with choice words as the van disappears down the narrow street. Its a slow, painful scene to watch as the parents are on the floor riding in pain. Through the smoke the little kid's silhouette is seen stumbling. Forward coughing, crying. The parents fall silent as the kid fall into her mothers arms, vegging her for help before silence falls upon the family. Distant panicking heard before that too soon falls quiet as the gas takes them. Leaving the camera recording for a while. Still on the family, lead there.
Far more affective I think. I get the unrealistic nature of the child standing longer than her parents, but come on. From what the game throws at us prior to this event.

Honestly, the family visiting London could have been given so much more weight if like between missions there were clips of them in London, or more than just the one clip. It would give it a hitchcockian suspense, wonder what was gonna happen

One thing I’ve always noticed about modern warfare one, is how the Americans go into the Middle East, full of bravado thinking that it will be very easy to find Al-Asad. It’s telling that they have no reason to be there, and one of the first things you see in the American campaign is oil rigs and derricks. The Marines are brutally killed by insurgents, and although they technically have the better fire power - they are nearly always at a disadvantage.
They attack a tv station, and Al-Sad was never there. They then have to rescue a tank miles off where it’s meant to be, and only barely do so. They have to wait with said tank all night, presumably not getting any rest. Finally they then have to escort the tank through busy streets, constantly being flanked and dogged by untrained terrorists wielding very old weaponry. Finally they attack Al-Sad’s palace, saving an outnumbered squad and a downed pilot - for then thousands to be killed by a Soviet era warhead.
My point is that in many respects, it was showing how this has happened so many times. A bigger, seemingly more powerful nation (who had no right to be there) to be totally overran by an technologically inferior enemy.

This is woven so much more naturally into its narrative than either of the 2 you mentioned prior. A nuke just happens to be in that city and Allen not stopping No Russian by just shooting Makarov are way more unbelievable than a surprise gas attack across Germany. Especially the way they popped off. In No Russian the attack was known about and could have been stopped during or before, by Allen. In the Nuke mission, if they had known (or even thought) one was there they never would have set foot in the city, not even for that dude or the helicopter pilot.

i love call of duty campaigns. cod4 and mw3 will always be some of my favorite ones. i think black ops trilogy is also really fun too. Oh no i dont mean black ops 3 although that game is fun mostly due to zombies. i mean waw-bo2. the true black ops trilogy in my eyes. i enjoy all 6 of these games including advanced warfare, primarily for gameplay aspect. call of duty will always have such a special place in my heart

honestly one of the best trilogies in gaming history, mw1 felt great, it was revolutionary back then, then mw2 oh god, i can tell you that it's every mission is iconic af, truly the best here, then mw3 maybe dull in comparison to mw2 but man the death of soap and ending is so well done, IW failed to deliver the same fun in the new MW series, only mw19 felt luke like the real deal

Edit, you should also pay a bit more attention to the radio in the background of the delta missions in mw3, especially in iron lady. Also with that mission i found lower difficulty setting ruin what it was going for but it comes accross super well on higher difficulties as you more or less start seeing huge numbers of russian vehicles and soldiers pouring in and start to feel hopeless only for the airsupport to rip through destroying the remaining supports of the tower while hitting the russians as the people on the ground are more important.

What you said makes sense! It is interesting how different difficulties influence how missions come across. I have played on regular and hardened, and even across those some missions feel like they give off a different atmosphere at times.
as far as the honey badger goes it shoots 300. blackout that's a Kris vector it can either shoot 45.acp or 9mm
1:03:07 this actualy has real world logic, the Russian and previous Soviet military was very reliant on its officers, an issue it's facing IRL in ukrane, the US is known for teaching its troops to function in small units and tend to train more autonomy into their forces and have invested much heavier into their NCOs but also even with their officers the ability to quickly establish a new chain of command when links in the existing one get swacked

I agree with your analysis of mw3 at the end of the video for the most part but I would say without all the big explosives and crazy set pieces mw3 wouldn’t be what it was. I think because of how the story panned out and how makarov basically started another world war it had to be a lot of bang bang but in different ways from the plane to the train to the chemical weapons and etc without that it wouldn’t live up to its story and makarov’s plans. But that’s just my thought 🫡
