Thanks for watching everyone! It means a lot. I love the Black Ops series, especially the first two games. Are you a bigger fan of the Modern Warfare or the Black Ops franchise?
In 2010 Black Ops was the first COD/fps game I ever played. I think I was around 10 or 11 when it first dropped so I was indifferent to the story due to my lack of knowledge on history. Nowadays however I've come to understand and appreciate the amount of historical relevance Treyarch infused into the campaign while still evoking the feeling of a high octane action movie that these games are known for. Imo the Black Ops series, particularly 1 and 2, have the best campaigns in the franchise due its unique premise of historical fiction allowing the player to experience real life events under the lens of classified deniable operations.
@@calvinfishermedia hmmm that’s tough to say. I think that Modern Warfare has been more consistent in quality but doesn’t reach the highs of Black Ops 1 or Cold War. If pressed I’d say Modern Warfare because I like more entries from the series.
You forgot to mention a HUGE hint from the Hong Kong mission. If you paid attention to the dialogue, Hudson said, "Or you can give us what we want and we'll guarantee your safety." In the very beginning of the game, the interrogator drilled Mason about the numbers station and Dragovich. He also said, "Give us what we want and we'll guarantee your safety. If you caught that, you would have known that Hudson was the interrogator before the revelation. Black Ops did plot twists and foreshadowing really well!! Another great video Calvin!!!
I always thought the most chilling bit of this game was during revelation when you hear Mason say, in delirium, “Oswald compromised; proceed to target.” The first time I heard that, a sense of dread palpably ran through me.
Its actually ironic and funny that in a game series known for guns, shooting and larger-than-life set piece battles, this game carried one of the most iconic levels in Call Of Duty history without even a single gunshot - the Pentagon. Just walking around, and meeting "someone" - but the context, the music, and the sheer audacity of this game to pull something like this off, is just... amazing.
Another thing Hudson tells mason is that there are gaps of time they couldn’t account for him so imagine other stuff he was doing on top of the stuff we already know
something else missed is when mason gets out of the chair after punching hudson and he's tripping out he yells "oswald compromised" as in the lee harvey oswald that killed kennedy
I play cod mobile (bc who doesn’t lol) and apparently, the comics in codm aren’t “canon”, but Reznov is alive in them. Ghost and tank go to an old gulag because Makarov sent his crew there to kill someone and once Ghost and tank find who it is that Makarov wants dead, it’s Reznov and he’s 103 years old and Makarov wanted Reznov dead bc Reznov knew where the Soviet govt hid the last of the Nova 6 when they captured Steiner. I actually read the comics lol but again, they’re not “canon”.
Black Ops 2 will always be my goated COD game but to this day, I absolutely understand where everybody comes from when they argue that this game features the best campaign in the franchise to date. I think it combines the greatness that both BO2 and WAW have within them when you consider atmosphere and then pure fun action. It’s almost like the best of both worlds. The numbers Mason!! What do they mean?! Shout out to Sam Worthington, who is the actor that plays Mason. An actor whose name people probably don’t know at all but face they might recognize given that not only has he been in one of the biggest video game franchises ever, but he’s also the main character of one of the biggest science fiction franchises as well with James Cameron’s Avatar films.
Dang, I had no idea Sam Worthington was Mason's voice actor! That is super cool. Black Ops 2 is incredible as well. I feel like the OG CODs are so hard to choose from haha, they are all so good.
@@calvinfishermedia it's a really good watch, I never picked up on all of the little subtle nudges in the 3rd act of the interrogation. I will say you missed a few of the larger nudges, Hudson repeating 'Give us what we want and we'll guarantee your safety' once while first interrogating Mason, and later on when interrogating Clarke.
Its honestly so crazy to me that you can release such high quality content, so often. About every week theres a new video. Can't wait till you get the credit you deserve! 🔥
This video kept appearing in my recommendations. Then i remember you were the one who made Modern Warfare trilogy retrospective! I loved the content, keep it up dude! Hope your books sell well too!
@@calvinfishermedia thank you for having a new channel for me to binge! Really enjoyed the modern warfare trilogy video. Probably diving into halo once I finish this one : )
Great video man and I've noticed some small details that I never noticed in the many many times I've replayed this game like the defector being there next to the table. This is one of my favorite games, the best cod game in my opinion but also one of the best stories in media (films, books, games) in my opinion.
just found out your channel, and this is absolutely amazing content, the way you analyzed this story and they way it was written makes me think you have a very creative mind and made me genuinely interested in buying your book! keep up the great work!
Hey man, i recently just found your channel, love the call of duty videos ive always put the campaigns first before jumping into multiplayer. I seen on your videos you are an author too, i am just about to begin on some book ideas i have and if you have any important pointers it would be greatly appreciated. Did you self publish on amazon or go to a publisher? No presure to reply but would be happy to get some help. Thanks
Hey, thanks for watching! That is awesome, congrats on starting your writing journey. I would say for your first novel, I would go the self publishing route. It is hard to get a publisher off of your first book w/o a social media following or some publishing history. I would definitely watch out for vanity publishers too. Self publishing is pretty straightforward w/ amazon and requires fairly little money up front. I would set aside a little money to hire a cover designer, because a good cover is important. Getting your book to gain traction is tough (I am working on that now), but it will help set you up in the future.
Simply the best CoD of all time overall, nothing will change my mind! Not to disrespect other incredible Call of Duty’s but this one just stands out the most, plus it was the very first CoD I’ve ever played
@calvinfishermedia I have to agree on the vector. I love that mid 2000s "futurism aesthetic". We all thought guns were going to look very different by now.
@@vincentmasterbassist6784 it is really interesting to look at the gun designs around that time. The XM8 too was around that period, I think, and that looked pretty out there. Futurism aesthetic is a really good term for it!
It's a great game yes, but it's a terrible Call of Duty game. They all were after 4, with the focus on Tier One superheroes and not the common Soldier among many.
@@calvinfishermedia Don't get me wrong, it wasn't BO's fault, but starting with MW2 the series ceased to follow the original moto: "In war, no one fights alone". Now it's all about the player superhero instead of the violent side of nation as embodiment of the populace. It's MoH, and CoD was made to be a contrast to that. It betrayed it's USP. Plus the failure to meet historical realities was also annoying, but that's a me thing.
No they weren't. Call of Duty's focus changed but that doesn't invalidate the rest of the games. Views like this are narrow minded and objectively false.
