Is it okay to install a new fuel filter without a blind connector if the primary filter in the boat is fastened and the engine filter does not have a blind connector? Thank you!

This is not unique to 2017-2018 150. The newer optimax models also had this same setup, and all 2015 and up mercury outboards from 115-400hp have a similar design. Usually this fuse fails if the batteries were hooked up backwards at some point.

I just did this to my 2014 150 hp Merc. Your video helped a ton! Thank you for putting it out. I ran the testing just as you instructed. No output on alternator. Had to wait a week for a new one to come in. The big dealer in town had one in stock but it was $200 more. Two comments: rotating the alternator into place was pretty difficult. I had to push with my feet against the alternator. When it did rotate, it stopped just a bit past the hole but was easy to line up. The torqueing of the bolts takes more uuumph than I imagined to get the 36 ft lb torque. Tested on completion 13+ bolts. Perfect.

Hi My mercury optimax 135, even shows 100% oil, it`s beeping 3 times. I know I had to purge couse the oil was goin down to 60% and after I fix it, still beeping. Any solutions?

Can't get a decent alternator on a mercury 150. Mine is a 2020 was pulling 4 amps with everything off, only giving me 10 volts at full throttle. It's fixed now but it was a bad alternator

So shop I work at has a merc 150 4stk In the shop that all 4 of us guys have been discussing. its way over charging up to 15v and toasting alternators. In a matter of a day. New batteries with a new alternator it shows 13.5-.7 BUT by end of few hrs run time its 15-16 volts and a ruined alternator. Any Ideas? merc tech line is not much help. Merc keeps sending alternators its under warranty.

How does an engine just go out of time the belt wasn't broken the teeth were all on it how could it just go out of time

Most of these engines are INTERFERENCE built which means if your cam sprocket comes out of time from the cranks sprocket, valve to piston damage can happen when they contact. NEVER turn the crankshaft clockwise with the belt off and the cam sprockets flopping around like that. You want to line up all the marks BEFORE you let the timing belt loose. If a cam sprocket pops out of position, gently move back to position. But NEVER turn the crank !!! The industry makes sprocket holder tools for such applications.

Or, do you know where I might purchase one online? Everything I am finding is a different number, or they don't have one for my motor at all. 2019 Mercury V8 4.6L 300hp four stroke.

Hi - You have a talent for demonstrating and teaching - great work! Thanks and I’m now a new subscriber. I have a 2022 Yamaha f200 four cylinder and the trim has never held the motor up for long. It used to take a day or two for it to drop. Now it drops from half way up to down in half an hour. I took it back to the dealer a few times for the issue to be fixed, and they would tell me it’s fixed, but it never was. Would you have any idea if this is a common thing with new Yamaha outboards, and (if so) which parts do I need to replace? I’m comfortable doing the work myself as it seems the only way to get it done competently. Thanks again for your great style.

Good video, explained very well. I have the same unit on my f115. It stopped working, I found a nick in the wire at top of transom height. Water had gotten down the wire and corroded the brush connection (circuit breaker one), yes there is a circuit breaker there. Unfortunately 3 of the bolts snapped trying to undo, so I can verify they are dry, and stainless and alloy don't go well. Currently spraying and let it sit for a while (unit is out), any recommendations with type of spray to seep in and loosen, fortunately the head snapped off and I still have some thread to grip?

THANK YOU! I ordered an alternator for my parents ‘13 150 Fourstroke, but found the problem in minutes because of this. Exactly as you described; no voltage at the alternator terminal and a failed 100A inline fuse. New cable and it’s working great. That ‘13 engine had a different-looking inline fuse, but the failure was identical. The replacement cable is the same as in your video.

how were you able to electrically test the unit when you had it in the vice on the table? Were you using a 12v battery?

You had a great video series on 450R maintenance that covered supercharger belt but not the alternator belt. I presume replacing the 450R alternator belt is very similar to this video, but what else needs to be removed to do the 450R belt? I.e., does the supercharger belt tensioner need to be removed?

I use the top flush when I don’t want to annoy my neighbours but when I want to do a good flush with salt away I run the muffs so the thermostat opens up fully. I’m not sure what’s best
