    Very well done. Thank you. Noticed at the 20:33 mark when you pulled the clamp off of the flywheel, the belt got tighter and the tensioner was moved. Did you just apply more pressure on the tensioner and tighten it down? Or is there another trick?

    • @attepotterrmmefiremerkersm68
      @attepotterrmmefiremerkersm68 2 місяці тому

      I noticed that as well ... I assume the tensioner was unlocked to allow it to thighten up the belt (possibly while rotating the engine), and then re-tightened. This was probably not filmed or cut out of the video in the editing. The tensioner have to take up the slack in the belt while being able to move freely with the pull of the spring attached to it (at least as I understand it).

      @@attepotterrmmefiremerkersm68 I did mine this summer and glad I had this video for reference. Turned out great especially the second time:-(. Got it all done and fired up the engine and then forgot to check the lettering on the belt. 50/50 chance and I had it upside down. 2nd time was much easier.

    • @us4marine
      @us4marine  Рік тому +1

      Hi Rogelio, remember these engines run on 4 cylinders while in neutral, however two cylinders only with spark is something wrong with the ignition system. There’s al lot to test. Start with ECU out put to the coils to cut troubleshooting time. you will need a Digital meter with pick voltage attachment.

    MAKE SURE TO SLIDE THE BELT DOWN LIKE IT WAS ORIGINALLY AND rotate the flywheel in a clockwise direction, this will tighten the belt on the port side and slack it on the tensioner side. Tighten the tensioner bolt to correct torque while holding at the flywheel.

    I’m assuming this would be the same on the 150hp. I have twin 2005 models. What are signs or symptoms the belts need to be changed? I’ve owned the boat a year now and they have right under 600 hours on them. Not sure if they have ever been changed. They look to be in good condition. Excellent video and explanation step by step.

    • @us4marine
      @us4marine  Рік тому +1

      You should be thinking about it around the 1000 to 1300 Hrs, so right now you’re OK, given you inspect them on every service for any kind of damage, but if so far they look good, they should take you all the way to those hrs.range. Thank you so much for watching and for your positive comments.

    As far as making sure the correct tension is on the timing belt, is it only that spring that’s giving the correct tension and then tightening that nut to keep that tension?

    • @us4marine
      @us4marine  7 місяців тому +1

      Almost yes, lol, however I always push on the tension pulley a little, then when running the motor afterwards I can see if the belt is vibrating too much or too tight. Thank you for your question and for sharing. Take care.

  • @ericbausch4768
    @ericbausch4768 Рік тому

    Is the belt tensioner bearing supposed to be able to flex back and forth so the spring keeps the right amount of tension or do you set the belt tension by how much pressure the spring is doing and then when you torque down the bolt it holds the bearing in place is the bearing supposed to be able to move?

    • @us4marine
      @us4marine  Рік тому

      Spring does not do anything or flexes after torque has been applied. Spring is there to give you a very close setting of your belt tension. Bearing does not move after torqued applied. Thank you for watching

  • @shadyfieldhomestead1974
    @shadyfieldhomestead1974 8 місяців тому

    One more question. Can't I just do my two rotations with the old belt to see that it is in timing and then bring it to TDC, ensuring the arrows are pointing on the camshafts? Also placing a camshaft locking tool. Then remove the old belt and install the new one? Then I guess I would rotate the engine two times with the new belt to ensure that it is in correct timing, and wham, all is in timing and good to go. Wouldn't all that work that way also? I have to get a new camshaft locking tool, as the one I ordered off of amazon won't fit between the camshafts with it's teeth. I imagine it is for a bigger engine, then the 115.

      Hi Shady, Yes it could work as you say, however when working at professional level with customers and other people’s money, I don’t leave anything to chance, I check and test everything myself and several times. Yes, without stopping the camshaft sprockets it can be a pain. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and for watching. Take care.👍🏻

    Quick question. I am wanting to change out my timing belt and i was a mechanic in the coast guard but i never did change out a timing belt. the service company wants to charge around $700 or so and after purchasing some of the items needed for this project and the timing belt, it could cost me around $180 to do it myself. Anyway, my question is, if I don't get the timing exactly right for whatever reason and I test ran it in my water tub, what is the worst that can happen to the engine? am i going to bend valves or destroy anything if i wasn't perfect on aligning? I'm sure I'll get aligned but i always like to know worst case scenarios prior to getting involved with any project. Thanks,.

    • @Bentleymetalworx
      @Bentleymetalworx 8 місяців тому

      One tooth off most likely rough idle. Take your time and make it right. Always a chance of bent valves if off to much.

      Hola Miguel, no tendrás ningún problema cambiando la bomba de baja, la cual esta en la parte trasera del motor sobre el tapa válvulas, solo remueve la bomba e instala la nueva con un nuevo “O” ring. El problema esta en la de alta presión, ya que para reemplazar esta bomba debes remover el manifold de admisión por completo y todos los sistemas pegados a este. Ahora porque quieres cambiar estas bombas tienes problemas de presión de combustible?. us4marine@gmail.com

  • @automan1223
    @automan1223 6 місяців тому

    Most of these engines are INTERFERENCE built which means if your cam sprocket comes out of time from the cranks sprocket, valve to piston damage can happen when they contact. NEVER turn the crankshaft clockwise with the belt off and the cam sprockets flopping around like that. You want to line up all the marks BEFORE you let the timing belt loose. If a cam sprocket pops out of position, gently move back to position. But NEVER turn the crank !!! The industry makes sprocket holder tools for such applications.

    • @us4marine
      @us4marine  5 місяців тому

      Hi Fishy, who knows, perhaps it had a defective injector in the past who caused the engine to back fire ? Or the propeller caught a fishing line or anchor rope and locked the engine off violently, causing a tooth to jump? Even a struck floating object can cause it. And you’re right it doesn’t happen often at all. Thank you for stopping by. Take care.👍🏻
