Thank you for your help.
holy fook... the action is perfect and the stock ain't busted...unless you are taking it to your gay pride parade... what more do you need ?
Yeah the case hardened receiver does have some pretty rainbows in it !!! 😀
Awesome thank you. I just bought this same rifle and also hate the plastic. Glad I found your chanel
I have a Ruger American rifle and want to upgrade the stock like you did here but thought it was too involved with gunsmith magic, and beyond my skills. Thanks to your video and how you explained everything, I know I can do this myself, and do it correctly Thank you sir!
It's all in the prep work, make sure everything fits correctly before mixing up the epoxy. Don't fret when applying the epoxy either, it has a pretty slow cure time so you have time to get it in the rights spots without feeling rushed.
I really like using Pro Bed for glass bedding. It’s stiff like you mentioned but stays put and has a good working time.
Glad I found you.
Would there be a way you could send me photos of how the internals of that gun are put together? I have a springfield 5000 that was given to me by my father. All the parts are there I just can't find anything of what it looks like together lol
Great ideas about tools. One thing I know about tools is that quality matters, buy high quality tools the first time and you’ll save money in the long run!

These books are worth their weight in gold for all the reasons you mentioned! I’ve also picked up older gunsmithing books on eBay for a few dollars each! Aside from just being interesting, older books have so many tidbits that are great to know. Great video and topic!
Great video!
For $75, that’s not only a classic but a classic steal, money well invested!
I have my grandfather’s old Stevens 107B 12ga and his 87A, my most treasured guns in the safe. I learned to shoot with these guns 50 years ago and they still function as well as back when I was a teenager. They’re just typical farm guns that were by the kitchen door, like every other farm in that rural area. Luckily, both of them are in really decent shape and I wouldn’t dream of touching their wood but I have some other project pieces that I’ve had forever and your video has inspired me to get started! I’m taking your suggestion about old throwaway stocks to learn on. Great video, thanks for posting!
Thank you sir, just what I was looking for. Going to dress up an old 30-30.
Is tru-oil a finish? I thought it was a treatment like danish/B-linseed oil
My grandpa recently passed away. He owned a carwash for a VERY long time. He left me a ton of coins to include about 9000 wheat pennies. I’ve sorted most of the wheats and left the valuable ones separate. Been wondering what to do with the rest. Now I know!
Thank You ...
Great vid I really appreciate it as a beginner
Very helpful
Thanks for these techniques. I have an old shotgun this will help to look good again.
Nice job, thanks for sharing ...................................
I appreciate the video. If you got two pieces of split suede leather to cover the jaws of your vise they do a great job of keeping things from slipping.
Getting ready to redo my 3030 i got from grandaddy when he passed. Great title and video
Well done.
At that price i would buy all they have if they have good solid lock ups and no serious problems.thecolder guns made out of solid steel and wood are way better than the new ones made of plastic and designed to break after so long. The old stuff was built to last multiple lifetimes
Excellent video
I have a Investarms hawken muzzleloader. When attempting to remove the high gloss finish nothing would cut it until I tried a heat gun.
What penetrating fluid did you use??????
@@Redlegarty K1 kerosene and automatic transmission fluid mixed 50-50
Me interesa
Me gusta esa escopeta cuánto vale
Acetone and 0000 steelwood and rub and rub and rub some more . Take your time.and do it right . Take it down to bare wood and finish it off with a dozen very light well rubbed coat or Truoil
Those two stocks you said were boy scout drill rifles look almost identical to J.C. Higgins Model 103.13 22 stocks.
I usually sand the difficult areas first then blend into them
You made my day. THANK YOU! I was planning to paint them, but it would be a mess. 👍👍👍
This felt like Dad teaching me something on a Friday night in the middle of winter while mom is prepping the dinner and we’re just killing time.
One way to look at it is what are you going to get for $75 that's made to day to the same quality standards as that old Stevens? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. A little elbow grease and with a clean-up you've got one fine servicable shotgun that will last for decades. Not a bad deal at all for less than a C-note! l.
When you say “penetrating fluid” is there a particular product you recommend over others or a particular class of them? Is it just gun oil or something different?
Could you tell me more why you’re not working forcing cone?
Nice looking stock. Surprised there's no bedding pillars for the screws to help the action even more for accuracy. I hope the stocked out overall in performance.
at least add oil to the scuff pads

How to check single shots properly 👍🏻
Need an oil finish and too incompetent to do it myself. You have a contact for your services?
I jus bought a gewehr 98 thanks for the video
I notice all your finishes are "blonde". I suggest making a traditional gun "Red Oil". It is easy. Order some powdered Alkanet root. Put it in a jar. Pour Boiled linseed oil over it. Shake it daily for six months. Pour off the now blood-red stain. Repeat to make more. Finish the stock however you like. The traditional way would be with an oil-wax finish. But once the stain is in the wood and hardened, finish it however you like. Remember, factory gun finishes are whatever makes a good-selling gun efficiently. They are not whatever makes the gun last longer.
Try acf50
I was hoping to see you remove the roller sight and sliding mechanism I have a JP Sauer 1915 missing the button retention springs to lock the sight in place.
what about getting around a vent rib, ??
@@bustersmith5569 I've rolled up 4 ought steel wool like yarn and fit it under the rib. Once you have it through a gentle shoe shine motion with plenty of oil will work on light rust.
Thanks bro. I'm looking at kinda sorta restoring the Winchester Model 77 my dad just handed down to me. The wood looks ok to good, but not great. the barrel has some surface rust as it gets a bit humid in the room they kept it in. So I'm going to have to break into my stash of antique pennies in my safe & try that trick first. Thanks for the video!
Awesome explanation..Thank you!
This was a great video .. I learned a lot ….I like my weapons but sometimes the older ones or the ones I push brush out of the way with get some light surface rust…I appreciate you knowledge
