Can I beat Conor Moore with 15 shots? | Mullingar Golf Club | Part Two
PART TWO of the episode where I try my hand at matchplay for the very first time and take on the funniest man in all of sport, Conor Moore at his fabulous home course of Mullingar GC, currently ranked as the 80th best golf course in Ireland. This will be a formidable first opponent for myself given Conor is a brand new single digit golfer, fresh off of golf lessons with none other than three time major winner, Padraig Harrington.
As a man who has made a living impersonating Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, can he play like them? How can a high handicap golfer fare against a brand new single digit golfer over 18 holes of matchplay? Will we even see 18 holes or will this be done by the 12th green? 15 shots sounds like a hell of an advantage until you actually consider my golf swing.
High handicap versus low handicap golf, who comes out on top? Tune in now.

Lost balls are the biggest threat to the high handicapper because mostly they can’t be made up for on other holes and generally lead to double or worse on the hole that you’re on.
I agree. Thankfully that only happened on one hole here (I think 🤔)
Could seriously do with some lessons…..
@@GerLanigan 👍🏻
nice round - just loosen up dude! hope to see more of you !
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
awesome shot (drive) you loosened up and had a nice looking follow thru! you relaxed ! and didnt pull up tight and make that tiny circle ! nice shot! timestamp = 29:10
Thanks. I can actually hit the occasional good shot 😂
wow - take a breath before you swing! your too fast and pushing it out right! slow down your pace. ... personally i set-up and then take a full breath before i swing and i look at the ground ahead of my ball because thats where i want to see the divot start. .... your followthru or release is so tense and tight a circle it might be part of the reason your pulling so many left shots....your right misses ??? i think your timing is off and your club is open , or your hands are too far out in front and you have not rotated your wrissts thru yet. hard to see because it happens so quickly in the swing.
👍🏻
hi again - time stamp = 18:20- every shot i have seen you mess up or leave short your head is coming up before you hit the ball. personally- i make sure i watch the clubhead go thru my ball and i actually see the ground before i look up. ....do you know that your upper body moves alot? sometimes you pivot around your spine but alot of times your body spine and all is moving. i'm thinking that and your tightness of body is whats pulling most of your shots left. ... and its hard to catch in your video but i'm thinking your coming over the top . because your swing looks like it going out to in. the few straight shots i see are where you loosened up and hit easy shots- comfortable shots. you were not trying to power it .
Yep. The more I relax the better I play. Not always easy on camera 👍🏻
WOW- you are tight! ... you really need to do stretching work. your upper body is too tense. (like my father whos nearing 80) you really need to straighten your posture stand up straight and lose the arch in your upper back. ... sorry - but i'm lookingat your 3rd shot -PW - 6 at timestamp 6:13... you will help your game by losening up and getting some smooth motion. I am 57, i dont play enough to be a tournement player of any sort, but i can see your just a tense mess.
@@jeffreyrayborn1871 👍🏻
For a higher handicap golfer your drives are very good, meaning you aren't getting into trouble much off the tee. Maybe practice chipping around the greens a little more. I'd bet your handicap drops significantly. Good job.
Thanks very much mate, I really appreciate the positivity. This was definitely one of my better driving performances. I find when I drive well, I always score well. Big problem is still that my rounds are too inconsistent. One week I can drive the ball really well and the next it just disappears 🤷🏻♂️ But all part of the learning curve 📈 My chipping definitely needs work. Anyway thanks for watching mate and engaging with the channel 👍🏻
Enjoy watching your rounds I've just started playing this year n broke 100 for the 1st time the other week great feeling still waiting on my 1st birdie it's such an enjoyable and at the same time frustrating game but I love playing n just trying to keep improving keep the rounds coming mate
Thanks very much Jordan, delighted to hear you’re enjoying the videos. Well done on breaking 100 inside your first year, that’s a great achievement. Looking forward to hearing about you breaking 90 🎯 I’m sure the birdie will come in no time. Just don’t put pressure on it, they’re actually really hard to get. My best ever round I shot an 88 and even that didn’t have a birdie in it 😂 Sounds like you have a great attitude towards golf, it’s just all about enjoying playing and that will lead to improvement. Keep it up 💪🏻
@DiaryofaHighHandicapper thanks mate what i took watching your videos you never seem to get frustrated after hitting a bad shot or having a bad hole as I would let it affect me for the rest of the round but working on that side of my game now after watching how you play n I am improving on that it would be great to play a round with you 2 high handicappers going head to head 😀 👍
Ah I used to get quite frustrated with myself when I first started playing but I realised I had to change that or I might as well quit the game. Because it’s an impossible game so you might as well just take the rough with the smooth 😀 Are you based in Ireland?
@DiaryofaHighHandicapper absolutely yeah totally agree n no mate there's some mile's between us I'm from a town called Barnsley in south yorkshire close to Sheffield
what did Niall shoot and whats his handicap
I think his WHI was 8 point something and he would have had a course handicap of 10. He didn’t actually hand in a card and didn’t putt out on every hole so didn’t have an official score or anything. Very good golfer though 👍🏻
nice video - sounds like the set of the Alfred Hitchcock movie ' the birds'
Thanks Kathy. Sounds pretty appropriate given my game resembles a horror movie 😂
Thanks for sharing. 👍
No problem mate 👍🏻
Thanks for the video….finally a video us high handicappers can appreciate 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
No problem mate. Thank you for watching 👍🏻
What a gorgeous golf course 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
One of my favourites that I’ve played 👍🏻
Again actually your putting is pretty good, it’s not easy reading the greens on a course you haven’t played but once or twice….
Thanks. Was just my second time playing the course, the previous one being over a year before so I was very unfamiliar with the greens
Since you’re not sure if your tee shot with a driver is going to the left or right you might as well just aim down the middle …
I do
Just a little help with your short game would make a world of difference…✌🏼✌🏼
Yeah I could definitely do with tidying up this area of my game
I don’t know how your a 28 handicap you hit the ball great you should be down around an 18 handicap easily 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Just have one too many bad shots and can’t quite keep it together for 18 holes
Did he say the “turd” reason ….🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The curse of an Irish accent 😂
If you fix that inside takeaway, you'll drop 10 shots from your handicap!
Already working on it 👍🏻
Great course we all hi good shots , bad shots , and good bad shots ati all in the game 😂
Thanks Carmel, I’m always amazed at the disparity between my good and bad shots, sometimes even on the same hole 😂
Practice your shor game and your handicap will plummet !
Cheers mate, will do 👍🏻
Question for ya, I’m hearing Blaineroe first 7 holes are up hill but didn’t look that bad on the video . Is it incredibly hilly or just little bit on incline?
Very surprised to hear that. I wouldn’t consider this a hilly course at all, same goes for the first 7 holes. The only one of those holes I’d consider truly uphill is 6, even then it’s grand. 7 is most definitely downhill. 1 and 2 seemed pretty flat to me. 3 is downhill towards the green. Similar with 4. 5 is slightly uphill and also has a kind of side sloping fairway. Anyway, I’ve only played it twice so maybe you’re hearing from a more reliable source but from memory it’s most definitely not uphill for 7 holes 👍🏻
@ that’s great to hear, was thinking video it seems fairly flat for the most part. Then few people saying if you don’t mind playing first 7 up a hill then play there. But glad I watched your video. Course looks incredible.
Great video, some tidy golf, Beautiful course, I’m currently on the hunt to join somewhere and this has defo been moved towards top of the list.
It absolutely should be 👍🏻 Great course, great views, lovely clubhouse and sound members
Your physique is too good to be a 28 for long. Swing is good, just falling off the shot which is easily fixed.
Thanks mate, feel like I made a bit of progress this year and will hopefully see that handicap coming down next season 👍🏻
28 handicapper does not consistently make good contact with the ball like you do, you are lower than that for sure!
I appreciate the positivity mate but it’s an official handicap based on my last 20 scores. I’ve handed in 70 cards since I’ve got my official handicap and my WHI has always bounced around the 22-27 index range
What range do you use. Looks decent
Greystones. It’s very good 👍🏻
Druids heath looks a nice course, another one that’s on my door step. Do you get to play Druids Heath free if you are a member of Arklow? How does that work, is there a limit on the number of times per year you can do that? (I think that’s what membership reciprocal agreement means anyway haha)
No, no reciprocal agreement between Arklow and Druids Heath. Just paid a normal green fee 👍🏻
@ ah ok cause on Heath website it has it down as one of the courses that it has one with but maybe old Info
What an awesome video! This is how also I play. 😊
Thanks very much mate, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Great wee video my friend I’m a plus 1 handicap. Try to slow your swing down get into shape ie the correct posture your using you pw get yourself a 52o or 56o 60o for round about the greens and to be fair there’s nothing wrong with your putting but you move way to much when hitting the ball your feet’s everywhere lol anyway keep practicing that’s what gets you h/cap down 👍
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the tips 👍🏻
Arklow is nice looking course, again one you would not see too much of. What other facilities do they have down there? Idea for a video, your pound for pound top 5 courses you have played based around bang for buck. Not necessarily best course but best value for what you get.
Yeah it’s absolutely lovely, particularly on a summers day 😎 They’ve a fine big clubhouse, up on a hill overlooking the course and coast. Views are incredible. Lovely outdoor seating area too. In terms of practice facilities there’s a couple of nets, a putting green and then a fairly basic short game area. Value for money in terms of membership is u real too. Less than a grand! And thanks for the content tip 👍🏻
You make consistent contact for such a high HC. If you practiced short game from 50 yards in and putting more, you could cut that in half.
Cheers mate, gonna keep working at it and hopefully see some major improvements soon 💪🏻
Great video. Found your channel looking for some information on Roundwood golf club. I’m living only a stones throw from the place and like yourself had never heard of it. Looks a tough course but I reckon after playing it a few times and knowing your way around you could shoot a pretty decent score on it. Will defo be going it a try now having seen this. And the value is unreal, 28 Euro and never busy. I drove into car park a few weeks back and place was deserted. Only shame is that club house seems to be closed, would be nice to be able to get a coffee or that before to after a round. Played golf as a young child but Only getting back into golf now again after about 25 years away. Keep up the Great work on the reviews. Going to watch your Arklow one now.
Cheers mate, thanks for the kind words about the channel and congrats on getting back into golf 🏌🏻♂️ Yeah I really do have a soft spot for Roundwood. I’ve played it loads since I filmed this, including another filmed episode on my channel 👍🏻 With a small bit of investment it could be absolutely superb. I just can’t believe how few people seem to play the course. Now, the greens wouldn’t be of the same standard of other golf courses but honestly for the price they charge, it’s great value. And as mentioned in the video, some of the best views I’ve seen on a golf course. Clubhouse is a real shame. Fine big building but just looks like it was never completed. Most of it lies vacant. Although it does be open and I believe you can actually get some refreshments, not that I have ever done, but I’ve seen people in there sat down drinking a cuppa. Anyway, thanks for checking out the channel and I hope you enjoy the Arklow video 👍🏻
Very much enjoyed the video, thank you Guys.
Thanks again Pauline 👍🏻
Very much enjoyed this video. It’s good to see 2 good players still showing their human with the odd bad shot.
Thanks Pauline, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching 👍🏻
Love your vids. Slow your backswing down you rush it, just concentrate on a really smooth backswing and feel like a tiny pause before the downswing, will help you a lot I think.
Thanks Chris glad you enjoy them 👍🏻 And thanks for the feedback, my backswing is all over the place recently and tempo non existent. Recently had a lesson and pretty much all we worked on was the takeaway so hopefully will have some time over the next few weeks to really try and bed in the changes. Thanks for watching mate 👍🏻
What's in the bag?
I actually did an episode on that if you go a bit earlier on my channel 👍🏻
You are not a 26 hcper..I have played 40 years and have played some of the top PGA course in USA from the club tee’s ..normally 6500 yds avg. I have played with high hcp’s that would shot 120 plus….if anything you look like a 18-20 ..your the guy that we call a sandbagged.😅😅😅
😂 Haha cheers mate. I’ll take comfort in the fact that I don’t LOOK like a 26 handicapper, at least. Unfortunately the numbers don’t lie though. I’ve handed in about 70 cards so far since I’ve had my handicap and unfortunately my handicap has bounced around the 22-26 mark and never gone lower. Although I do think I’m just a few small changes away from hopefully getting to sub 20🤞🏼 Oh and I must inform you, I must be the most ineffective, least successful sandbagger out there 😂 Thanks for watching 👍🏻
I live in Dublin too. So great getting to see nearby courses before going to play them!
That’s great to hear mate 👍🏻
Great round, great looking track! Enjoyed watching from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks Paul, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻🇮🇪
How about choosing your shot positively instead of remembering the previous bad ones.? Then try taking time over the ball rather than what appears to be stroke of desperation after a bad result. The light dawned for me when I discovered golf is a mind game.
👍🏻
369 yards par5 ?? ......seriously!!!!. i was waiting too see if there was extraordinary level of difficulty. Am i missing something ??
@@bennynol1 turns out it was miscommunication and actually should have been a Par 4. It shows it playing as a par 4 or a par 5 on the scorecard. Before the round the guy in the Pro shop advised that it’s a par 5 for me as they only play it as a Par 4 during medals. I suspect he meant the other way round 👍🏻
Don't be down on yourself, the weather was terrible. I knew if I watched your channel long enough I would see the birdie. Well done. Surprised you don't invest in an umbrella, with the Irish weather been what it is. Need to keep your grips dry
Hi Michael, I do of course own an umbrella however the investment is only useful if you remember to bring it 😂 This was a couple of years ago now but from memory I played this round in peak summer and headed straight to the course from the office so my preparation was light and I didn’t really envisage such a downpour in the height of summer, even for Ireland
🎉Great "real" video 😊 and I love your enthusiasm for the game, keep it going. So 2 things and you'll be below 90 in no time. 1. Putting: you can't be 3 and 4 putting, especially on your home course. Learn how to read putts and work on your distance control. Your goal (for now) is only 2 x 3 putts per round ; all others should be 2 putts. 2. You're getting to your left side on the down swing, however you're finishing on your right leg thus moving away from the ball as you hit it, hence the shots going off to the right. That's 6 to 8 shots saved just on this round. Watch your video and see how you fall off almost every shot, look at good players, they don't.
Thanks Chris, glad you enjoyed the video. I must admit my putting was very poor in this video. Normally I would consider it one of my strengths (of which there aren’t many 😂) but to be honest, I do find putting particularly difficult at Arklow, even though it’s my home course. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with links courses, but the greens are fiendishly difficult. We’ll keep working at it though 🏒 And yeah, I have a horrible tendency to swing from my back foot. I get the club stuck on the inside and it’s very hard to get your weight forward when the clubs behind you. I did have a lesson recently and we worked on the takeaway and weight distribution so hopefully it pays off. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Who in their right mind would want to spend 30 minutes watching a UA-cam video of a 28 handicaper playing golf??? Just came here to write this and not watch the video. Don’t get it. Just goes to show that there is a UA-cam channel for everything.
Charley, I would have also thought who in their right mind would want to spend time writing a comment on a video that they didn’t even watch. Don’t get it. Yet here you are 😃 Seems we both learned something new today
Your swing is actually pretty decent. If many of your driving balls go to left, check your grip which could be too strong. Make a neutral grip.
Cheers mate. My grip is actually quite neutral would you believe. Only had a lesson there last week and he confirms as much. My issue is more club path/club face 👍🏻
Closer to an 8 than 28 handicap,take out 5/6 dodgy puts😁
Cheers mate, I think 5/6 of those dodgy putts might even have been on the one hole 😂
I’m here in NewJersey watching on our Election Day . Enjoyed the beautiful course!
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the course. Congrats or commiserations on the election, depending on your political leanings 😂 Thanks for watching 🇺🇸
This is me. Except I usually play the right side.
Maybe it’s because In Ireland we drive on the left 🚗😂
Congrats on the wedding!
Thank you 🤵🏻♂️👰🏼♀️
