Hi George 👋🏼 Delighted you’ve found my channel and hopefully you’ll enjoy the content 👍🏻 It’s always nice to hear people find the content relatable, not that I’d wish my golfing woes in anybody 😂 but you know what I mean. If it came easy we probably wouldn’t love it as much 🏌🏻♂️👍🏻
Thanks Fergus, I’m still absolutely over the moon 👶🏻 Glad you enjoyed the video. The course really was such a surprise given how little I or anyone seems to know of it 👍🏻 Thanks for watching
Good to have you back! That course looks like a hidden gem and clearly suits your game. 91 after paternity leave is decent. Looking forward to more content.
Thanks Steve. It does feel nice to be putting out new content. Should be out again soon. Hopefully I can continue to play ok Golf 😁 Thanks for watching
Awesome to see you out again on the course Jamie and massive congratulations on the birth of your little boy! I think the golf is definitely getting better and although you left a few out there I would say that was mostly with the putting. Sharpen that up and your under 90 all day long 😃👍👍
Thanks very much Stephen, much appreciated mate 👍🏻 Yeah I definitely think there’s a lot of improvement there from previous episodes. Still some tidying up to be done but I’m confident I’m moving in the right direction. I already have the next episodes filmed so should be out in a week or so 👍🏻
Played Roundwood a few weeks back when we had the mental wind and its a tough track on a quiet day. Hardly ever busy and a gem of a course. Well done on another great video.
Yeah I couldn’t believe it based on the reviews I read and the general lack of info on line about it. I really liked it. A great mix of holes and the views are incredible. A very tough test but I’ve played it three times now and once you know where you’re going it’s really enjoyable. Pace of play is incredible due to virtually no one being on the course. And thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the vid 👍🏻 Thanks for watching
Played it with a lad from work that's one of the 70 odd members and luckily he gave us a hole by hole guide. I was actually watching the video mentally trying to remember the line to take 😂. He told us that if you're ever stuck for a round on the weekend you're guaranteed to get a slot there and like you said it's great course to get round once you know it. Keep up the good work
The only reason I booked it was because it was a Saturday and I couldn’t get a tee time anywhere else. But boy was I glad I did. Randomly found it on GolfNow. Cannot believe they only have 72 members. I know there’s no functioning clubhouse etc. but surely there’s more people out there who are willing to join for the course alone. I’d love if the video helps a few more people to know it exists
Thanks a million Gary. I loved the course, can’t believe how quiet it is. And I felt this was some of my best golf I’ve ever played….wouldn’t be hard mind you 😂
That was excellent! 6 greens in reg and 6 pars. You were a bit lucky once or twice, but also bad luck on some of the lies just off the green. Driving and ball striking suggest you'll be off 18 soon. Good luck!
Cheers Andy, much appreciated. Nice to see some stats put on the round 😀 I could do with an official statsman actually 😂 I’ve been telling myself I’ll be off 18 soon now for about 2 years but that’s why we keep playing the game 👍🏻
Really enjoyed watching you put that round together and well played.Course looks stunning and hope all well with family and baby son.Keep videos coming ,you are improving and breaking 90 will soon be easy for you if improve course management.I shoot in the 70's and don't hit the ball any further than you, only difference is i seldom pick up penalty shots .Good luck.Mike Scotland.
Thanks Mike, glad you enjoyed it 😀 Hopefully you are right. I do feel like I’m improving a little bit with each round so hopefully all the practice and experience just clicks one day. Thanks for watching and the well wishes. Much appreciated. Jamie 👍🏻🇮🇪
Great to see you back. Looks like a cracking course. One I didn't know about after my research into courses in Ireland. Nice to see that Toulon is still earning it's price. Not sure if anyone else has said it. Try chipping around the greens with a lower loft. Will help the run out especially on slow and soft greens. Looking forward to more videos.
Cheers Matt, it was great to be out on the course again and even better to be playing ok Golf. I find that barely anyone knows about the course. I just randomly found it on Golf Now but it has no website or social media and when I asked around no one had played it. So I had very low expectations and was blown away by what it had to offer. It’s like a ghost town though 😂 Me and that Toulon design are getting on famously 😃
Well done m8 great round👍🏻 love your enthusiasm always makes me smile, you’re much better than me but gotta keep trying lol,all the best and keep it up 😄😄✌️👍🏻
Cheers mate, was certainly one of my better ones 😄 There’s enough bad things that go wrong on the course so ya gotta celebrate the little wins when they come 😂 And we always have to keep trying mate 💪🏻 Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated 👍🏻
Cheers mate, was really happy with those two shots. Anytime I hit a green in reg I know I must be striking the ball reasonably well. Just a shame I was a little sloppy on the green. Thanks for watching again mate 👍🏻
Great video. Found your channel looking for some information on Roundwood golf club. I’m living only a stones throw from the place and like yourself had never heard of it. Looks a tough course but I reckon after playing it a few times and knowing your way around you could shoot a pretty decent score on it. Will defo be going it a try now having seen this. And the value is unreal, 28 Euro and never busy. I drove into car park a few weeks back and place was deserted. Only shame is that club house seems to be closed, would be nice to be able to get a coffee or that before to after a round. Played golf as a young child but Only getting back into golf now again after about 25 years away. Keep up the Great work on the reviews. Going to watch your Arklow one now.
Cheers mate, thanks for the kind words about the channel and congrats on getting back into golf 🏌🏻♂️ Yeah I really do have a soft spot for Roundwood. I’ve played it loads since I filmed this, including another filmed episode on my channel 👍🏻 With a small bit of investment it could be absolutely superb. I just can’t believe how few people seem to play the course. Now, the greens wouldn’t be of the same standard of other golf courses but honestly for the price they charge, it’s great value. And as mentioned in the video, some of the best views I’ve seen on a golf course. Clubhouse is a real shame. Fine big building but just looks like it was never completed. Most of it lies vacant. Although it does be open and I believe you can actually get some refreshments, not that I have ever done, but I’ve seen people in there sat down drinking a cuppa. Anyway, thanks for checking out the channel and I hope you enjoy the Arklow video 👍🏻
What a lovely looking course, sadly I’m too old for the have a kid to improve technique, plus I’ve had the snip 😊 Enjoy being a dad and in years to come you could have some great times with the little fella on the course
Ah it’s so it will be short lived for me. I actually went out for another round soon after this was filmed and got nowhere near this level of golf, so maybe the golf gods only give you new born luck, once 😂 And thank you, already looking forward to being on the course with him, but maybe not being out driven by a teenager (most likely) 😂
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper well golf has this habit of bringing you back down to earth, same handicap as you, my eclectic scores for two courses I’m a member of is -2 gross and -1, yet never broken 90 🥲 knowing you can par every hole in the course yet take 8,9,10,11 sometimes, aaargh. Hi Peter, I completely agree. The views are incredible. With a small bit of investment in facilities, this place could be amazing. What a great reason to visit Ireland 🎸🎶 Hopefully you get to grace the courses of Ireland again ☘️
Yeah it was a tough course. Thankfully I had played it recently before. I won’t share with you how many balls I lost on that first round there 😂 But absolutely spectacular views
Enjoyed watching your video! You played a great round for the most part. One suggestion I would make to improve your play would be to sharpen your club selection a bit. For example, several times in your approach shots of 120+ yards you used a 9 iron. For your distances, you would have benefited from using at least an 8 iron or even a 7 iron. Also, on those narrow fairways, instead of going driver off the tee consider a wood or hybrid to get the ball safely in the fairway. Distance may suffer a bit but you won’t be in woods!
Thanks Dave, glad you enjoyed it. Yeah I find with club selection, I’m just not striking the ball consistently enough yet. So there’s still far much too much variation between my good and bad shots with each club. Same goes with driver versus hybrid off the tee. I’m liable to hit both equally as bad 😂 Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave some feedback 👍🏻
Fantastic front 9 on a beautiful course. Your clubs have been playing better since you booted them out the door 😂. Looks like your practice looks like its been paying off as well. Time to strap a car set to that cart and get the little one riding around out there! Congrats brother!
Cheers mate. Im not ready to give up on it just yet. I get up and down with it far more than any other club in my bag. Just need to eliminate the poorer shots, but I could say that for all my clubs 😂
Glad you are still finding time for golf! Hope you and the little one are doing well mate. Dream return round in my opinion... hoping I come back this strong when the kids are back in school. Great view from the 6th green!
Thanks mate. Hadn’t played much at all but he’s about 5 months old now and sleeping well so it makes things slightly easier. Hoping to get out filming again next week. Was really happy/surprised with how I played. Just one of those rounds where you start well and don’t have to think about things too much. If only they were all like that 🤷🏻♂️ Wishing you lots of fellow Golf Dad Luck when you do get back 😂 6th green was spectacular. My favourite on the course.
You're playing good golf and some of the most beautiful green courses. If I may, I think you'd take off several more strokes per round if you'd relax a bit and take your time before each shot. You're always rushing around on the course nearly out of breath. Very nervous energy.
6th hole that is so typical, provisional hit really well then find the original. I take it the pinnicle was a found ball as I’ve never seen these for sale but find them all the time. I tend to put them into the practice bag or like you the provisional ball bit if my bag.
Haha you’ve got it in one. All my new balls are srixons and I hadn’t checked what number I was playing, so when I went into the woods, I couldn’t hit another srixon as it may have been the same number so I went into the practice bag for one of the balls the course actually gave back to me 😃
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper Srixon’s I’ve stopped using as lose them / find them too much. I just find other brands I get a lot more holes / rounds out of them. You tried the Kirkland’s? Good ball for seriously cheap money £1.30 a ball usually
i remember when breaking 100 was a very special day. I shot a 92 because I was holing all the putts from far up close it didn't matter I couldn't miss. The rest of my game was the same.
I was similar enough. I shot a 94 when I broke 100 for the first time. But I think that was more to do with my ball striking. It does remind me more of when I broke 90 though. My putting was on fire. Got up and down from everywhere. Had 7 pars and shot an 88. Really it should have been an 85 or 86 because I fluffed the last hole out of nowhere and triple bogeyed. Went out and shot a 102 just seven days later 😂
Definitely could have done with that tip on the tee box 😂 I was always taught to tee up on the same side as the danger so you can play away from it, so to speak, but on this occasion it just seemed to attract me to it 😂 Thanks for watching
58 is your comfort blanket! 9 iron bump and run or something similar can very often be the way to go. You’re expecting a good roll out from your chipping, but a 58 is designed not to do that!
Thanks for watching and leaving feedback Ken 👍🏻 This year I had made a conscious effort to improve my short game, in particular my chipping. The greens here were quite slow so perhaps a bump and run may have been the better option. Hopefully if you’ve seen my latest videos you’ll see that the chipping was working quite well on quicker greens 👍🏻
Two mistakes you made, 1st on the 10th hole, you had a great 9 holes(8 over I think) and you decided to change golf ball, don't change things that are working. 2nd mistake, the one we all make, you continue to play well and you decide before playing the 18th that your going to count your score, get away from adding your score, just complete your round, don't put your stableford score on the card and if your playing with someone, tell them that you don't want to know the score. Great to see you back, have you planned to play Phillip from Breaking Par?
Hi Dermot, thanks for watching. With both of those, it was more to make the actual UA-cam video slightly more entertaining and engaging. Well, that was my attempt anyway, whether it was is a different story 😂 I actually played with Philip (off camera) last year. He was the one who signed my scorecard the only time I ever broke 90. We’ve discussed doing an episode together but it hasn’t happened just yet 👍🏻
You are all over the place with your ball selection. All balls perform differently. Find one ball you like and run with it. It will help a lot with your consistency. You will know what to expect. I play the Kirkland. Great ball at a great price and I am not too upset if I lose one.
Was I? I almost exclusively play a Srixon ball. I get 24 for €30 so likewise, they’re a reasonable price and I’m not too bothered if I lose one. However, sometimes when hitting a provisional, I can’t remember what number srixon I hit so I will swap out for one of my “practice” balls so I can identify the provisional ball if needs be. Obviously in competition I make sure I mark my original ball and keep track of what I’m playing but for these videos I’ve so much other stuff to worry about the marking balls goes out the window 😂
Good stuff, why don't you try a choosing the 56 (or equivalent) on most shots you would normally hit the 58....you hit good chip shots they were just coming up a bit short that's all
Yours and mine both mate 😂 Wouldn’t normally be the straightest hitter in the world but managed to play well enough on the day 😂 Opens up a bit on the back 9 to be fair
100%. When I play well I’m convinced I’ll get it down but I just can’t seem to put a consistent run of rounds together. And when I play bad, it’s horrendous 🙈 Thanks for watching. If you’re subscribed, I’m sure you’ll see why I’m the handicap I am in due course 😂
Well I’ll have to take your word for it 😂 When I hit good shots I feel like I could be playing off mid teens but then have one two many horror shots that runs my chance at a good score.
😂 Sometimes I do indeed feel like “el Bandito” 🦹🏻♂️ I’ve said it before but when I play well I feel like a 16 handicap, but more often that not I come in just around my handicap. I’m just far too inconsistent and struggle to put 18 holes together. I’ll keep plugging away though and hopefully I’ll get below 20 one day 🙏🏻
You definitely played some great shots there mate and if your ever in Cardiff give us a shout and ill take you round my course!!. Keep up the good work with the vids!!@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper
Possibly. The greens were running a little slow though and I didn’t want to be too aggressive with some of the pin positions but definitely left a good few short. Still think my short game has come on a good bit 👍🏻
Honestly I second this comment. I normally use my 50 degree for shots like this. With the 58 you have to have the confidence to fly the ball most of the way and I don’t have this and I doubt you do too. There wasn’t much wrong with those chip shots around the green that you played, just the wrong club leaving you a much longer putt than is comfortable.
It's called Stableford which is a point scoring system used in Ireland, the UK, and most of Europe (as far as I'm aware). It's based on your net score for each hole using your handicap. The scores are: 0 - Double Bogey 1 - Bogey 2 - Par 3 - Birdie and so on
Hole 9. But in hindsight I think this was miscommunication. On the scorecard, it’s says par 4/5. The guy in the shop explained that they only play it as a Par 4 in their medal competitions and its a par 5 for me. But I think perhaps he meant the opposite. So we’ll knock a point off my total score 😂
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper Sorry. Commented during the video (just thinking out loud really). Best I’ve seen you play and that course was stunningly beautiful though I think I would struggle with putting on greens that slow.
Thanks mate and thanks for watching as always. Greens were a lot slower than I’m used to as you could see on a lot of my chips and putts but overall I was very happy with course and how I played
Well played ...I'm a member there for the last 4 years , love it up there , live in roundwood so it's handy as . btw the 9th is a par 5 of the blue tee box it's about 120 yards back hidden in the gorse , you wouldn't know its there , the medal is played at the end of every month of the blues, its a different beast of the blues 😢. shot my best round there recently shot 79 ..be improvement from me this year , good video of roundwood thanks for popping down ...good work 👏👏
Scorecard says “5/4” and the guy in the pro shop said that it only plays as a Par 5 during a medal so unless there was a miscommunication, I played it as advised. You can google “Roundwood Wicklow Scorecard” and see for yourself 👍🏻
@@bennynol1 turns out it was miscommunication and actually should have been a Par 4. It shows it playing as a par 4 or a par 5 on the scorecard. Before the round the guy in the Pro shop advised that it’s a par 5 for me as they only play it as a Par 4 during medals. I suspect he meant the other way round 👍🏻
Heading here Friday looking forward to it.

You're playing good golf and some of the most beautiful green courses. If I may, I think you'd take off several more strokes per round if you'd relax a bit and take your time before each shot. You're always rushing around on the course nearly out of breath. Very nervous energy.
Cheers David
Congrats and well played. I'll leave it up to you which one I mean about the golf and which is about the new born.
Thanks either way mate 😂
Little tip for you .....
14th hole tee it up on the left hand side
10th hole....that will teach me for talking too much. Brilliant 😂😂😂
😂 it’s a fine line between updating the viewer and not concentrating on what you are doing, which I sadly found out 😂
Two mistakes you made, 1st on the 10th hole, you had a great 9 holes(8 over I think) and you decided to change golf ball, don't change things that are working.
Well, that was my attempt anyway, whether it was is a different story 😂
I actually played with Philip (off camera) last year.
P.s. The Pro V1 bit on the 10th was just a bit of a joke in terms of thinking positively when confronted with a tough shot
Good stuff, why don't you try a choosing the 56 (or equivalent) on most shots you would normally hit the 58....you hit good chip shots they were just coming up a bit short that's all
Yeah loads of people have mentioned this to me so will give it a go in my next round. Thanks for the input 👍🏻
Beautiful course, but every fairway looks like it is too narrow for my game.
Yours and mine both mate 😂 Wouldn’t normally be the straightest hitter in the world but managed to play well enough on the day 😂 Opens up a bit on the back 9 to be fair
Miles better than me; 26 - are you sure ? Relatable content for sure.
100%. When I play well I’m convinced I’ll get it down but I just can’t seem to put a consistent run of rounds together. And when I play bad, it’s horrendous 🙈
Thanks for watching. If you’re subscribed, I’m sure you’ll see why I’m the handicap I am in due course 😂
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper Maaate! Rest insured you have more innate talent than this 'intermediate' golfer who's commenting.
Well I’ll have to take your word for it 😂
When I hit good shots I feel like I could be playing off mid teens but then have one two many horror shots that runs my chance at a good score.
At 26 handicap you should be called "el Bandito" lol
😂 Sometimes I do indeed feel like
“el Bandito” 🦹🏻♂️
I’ve said it before but when I play well I feel like a 16 handicap, but more often that not I come in just around my handicap. I’m just far too inconsistent and struggle to put 18 holes together.
I’ll keep plugging away though and hopefully I’ll get below 20 one day 🙏🏻
Only messing mate you played some cracking shots fair play!!@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper
Ah don’t worry, I know it was all in jest. And thank you, one of my better rounds
You definitely played some great shots there mate and if your ever in Cardiff give us a shout and ill take you round my course!!. Keep up the good work with the vids!!@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper
I will indeed Chris, thanks for the offer 🏴👍🏻
I bet you'd get closer to the hole if you chipped with your 52 every time you thought you should use your 58 ....
Possibly. The greens were running a little slow though and I didn’t want to be too aggressive with some of the pin positions but definitely left a good few short. Still think my short game has come on a good bit 👍🏻
@DiaryofaHighHandicapper The greens running slow is even more reason to chip with a lower lofted club.
Some chips worked out, some didn’t. All part of the learning curve for my next round 👍🏻
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper that's what I'm saying. Give your 52 a shot on the flat chips. I bet you'll be happily surprised.
Where is this course please??
Roundwood in Co. Wicklow 👍🏻
What are the 2 points on bogeys all about? Is it the stroke above par? Why not +1?
It's called Stableford which is a point scoring system used in Ireland, the UK, and most of Europe (as far as I'm aware). It's based on your net score for each hole using your handicap.
The scores are:
0 - Double Bogey
1 - Bogey
2 - Par
3 - Birdie and so on
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper hey. Cool. Thanks for the info
No problem
Was there really a 365yd par 5? (Hole 8 I think)
Greens were a lot slower than I’m used to as you could see on a lot of my chips and putts but overall I was very happy with course and how I played
no that sounds right in the comp it’s rated a harder hole. But it’s very short for a par 5
Well played ...I'm a member there for the last 4 years , love it up there , live in roundwood so it's handy as . btw the 9th is a par 5 of the blue tee box it's about 120 yards back hidden in the gorse , you wouldn't know its there , the medal is played at the end of every month of the blues, its a different beast of the blues 😢. shot my best round there recently shot 79 ..be improvement from me this year , good video of roundwood thanks for popping down ...good work 👏👏
Never a par 5 at 420 yards
Scorecard says “5/4” and the guy in the pro shop said that it only plays as a Par 5 during a medal so unless there was a miscommunication, I played it as advised. You can google “Roundwood Wicklow Scorecard” and see for yourself 👍🏻
369 yards par5 ?? ......seriously!!!!. i was waiting too see if there was extraordinary level of difficulty. Am i missing something ??
@@bennynol1 turns out it was miscommunication and actually should have been a Par 4. It shows it playing as a par 4 or a par 5 on the scorecard. Before the round the guy in the Pro shop advised that it’s a par 5 for me as they only play it as a Par 4 during medals. I suspect he meant the other way round 👍🏻
