Hyundai Have Made an EV For Petrol Heads, Finally - The Ioniq 5N. Wowza!!
A huge thank you to Mark for letting me experience this incredible car as a passenger. The Ioniq 5N simulates a petrol engine and gearbox so well that it could make Petrol Heads Smile, like it did for myself and Mark. If you’ve ever doubted an EV could feel this exciting, this one could change your mind.

Thanks Ian, and for me too. Unfortunately, despite how good it mimics an engine and gearbox, there’s something missing and that’s an actual engine and gearbox. 🤣
Yes, the M140i ppl Nice video I don’t think this car needs front strut brace or under body brace just fit some H&R anti-roll bars 28mm front 20mm back With LSD and upgraded suspension and you’ve got a little weapon on your hands.
Compare the Hyundai i20N with the Ioniq 5N and you may understand why the latter is viewed as a very different sort of vehicle. You decide …
I20N for me, all day long.
Still a no from me, just got absolutely no interest whatsoever in electric cars, apart from the acceleration they just do nothing for me, there’s more to cars than a bit of speed, it’s the noise too and the engineering that has gone into making some of the masterpiece engines we see today that is going to be completely lost and forgotten
💯%
The noise is only skin deep. Piece of wind pipe, and more often than not a pretty awful recording over the speakers. Yes talking about M / AMG cars, and many other ICE performance cars. The amount of tinkering I've done on ICE cars to get the sounds I love, long term, is unreal. The 5 N is done very well. Yeah sure it's no puristic live piano concerto like a NA V12, but when your driving a great road you get the engagement from the gears that are very convincing, and with the noises you expect, you quickly forget it isn't real. Like dancing to a great song, it actually doesn't matter so much if it's live or recorded, what matters that it is a good song.... If you think you've tried this car because you've driven other electric cars, you're wrong. It isn't like any other electric car imho and I've driven a few. It's not just those 'gimmics' or straight line speed, it also has a great chassis and you can really tell it was developed by a bunch of capable driving enthusiasts from the first corner. It's the complete package. I had personally dismissed it early on as being way too heavy, and sceptical of the "dct" gears and fake sounds given that I hated the fake sounds on my previous driver's cars (in part on my channel). I was untill recently a low weight manual only "snob" that pulled up his nose for cars over 1,5 tonnes and that aren't real manuals. Guess what, one review seen on my favourite back road and a test drive later I now own one since half a year and very pleased with it. I see the 'dct' as the rally sequential box I lusted after, together with the anti-lag... Best car by far - it does for me the near impossibly of combining a sensible family car and a driver's car, and being really good at doing both. If you can't use the space, I would still be glad this exists and eagerly wait what smaller enthusiast EVs can do... Glad I now don't have to deal with engine warming (spoiled half my journeys), turbo lag, heat soak and engine cooldowns. Not to mention worrying about money shifting and burnt clutches. Just driving joy from the first meter to the last. Feel free to disagree, but first after a proper test drive on some good roads, or you're missing out imho...
@@onehorsepower I can only endorse your description 💯%. The balance and car rotation is so good that you can only dream of it with an engine on the front axle. Then there's the direct throttle response, without any turbo lag. And if you can charge at home, you no longer have to go to the filling station/charging station, except for long distances.
@@onehorsepower the engine warming part and in general all the mechanical sympathy to me is part of experience of owning a car. you take all of that away and what is left is A to B car that might as well drive itself.
Not just less weight than a golf R less drivetrain loss aswell 30mph + a TCR or Leon cupra should be quicker than an R/S3 for sure. 140 is very special but the problem with them is it’s a 120 m sport with a powerful engine. Not much else feels or looks that different, great sleepers though especially in non shadow edition guise
@@willpark7483 it’s not just a 120 with a big engine though. I mean in a sense yeah but you could say the same about the Golf GTi being the same as a GTD. or just a normal 1.6 Golf. For the money they are it means that they’re a great platform to improve!
@ It is mate…. I have an M lite myself, I know. Great cars but there is no kidding that it’s not barely different than any other M sport 1 series, aside from engine and very subtle styling its only the big callipers and rock hard suspension that give it away! they aren’t sharp or stiff like a proper M car, no limited slip diff like a proper M car and styling wise they aren’t like a proper M car.
@ I don’t doubt that. That’s why I’ve put a diff and better suspension on mine. I remember it stock before any mods and it’s night and day now. Thankfully the RWD 120/125i’s are pretty decent platforms already.
Snow foam works but you need to take spounge and do it by hand, that is the reason why it is needed to do it before with water, then snow foam and then spounge by hand and for the end water.
Who cares if it works It's just fun😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 but I will say you didn't pre-rents and foam is not going to cut through the dirt and get beneath the dirt and the paint So if you put a rag on that or a flannel as you guys would like to say You're going to scratch the piss out of your paint 💰💰💰
Nice vid keep it up
Owned 50 plus cars in my 53 years starting with Ford Capri 2.8i’s and Sierra Cosworths in the 90’s. Bought my first new M140 in 2017 after owning a few E46 330 Couoes and then E46 M3’s. I got my first M140i new and fell in love with it but sold it to get the M2 OG and then regretted it so went back to another 140. I then went for the M2C to see if the better M2 would make sense. I owned it for a year and then got rid as I missed having a 140. Now back in another 140 and with a few suspension mode you can get a capable car that punches above its weight. Yes, I can afford the M2C and similar marques but I don’t feel like I’m missing out when the 140 is so good. The only issue now is finding a good one.
That’s a great story Brian!! What a car history, eh? You’re not wrong about finding a good one. I like to think mine would be a ‘good one’ as I have fixed the bad or weak points of the car. I’m surprised you missed the M140i having an M2C. I guess there’s something cool about having a non M car that punches above its weight with some light suspension mods, plus the B58 is a dream, and it’s practical!
@@roadreg1820 Reg, the M2C is brilliant but there’s something about the 140 that I can’t put my finger on. Recently test drove the M340i Xdrive but it’s so clinical and literally drives you instead of the other way around if that makes sense. As you say, some suspension mods and it kind of comes together. I reckon if the 140 had come from factory with a more uprated suspension and LSD, the thinking person would have passed on the full fat M and gone M lite thus affecting M sales hence why they left it a bit soft so to speak. 3 door 2018 manual Shadow here with Pro Nav, adaptive suspension and many extras. Keep up the content 👍

Which resonator did you delete I have a pre opf 240i it has the bullet longer one and a smaller square one ??
@@ells-aviation both of them
@ cheers 👋
@@roadreg1820in the vid you said single res delete so bit confused . So you removed the long tube one and the smaller square on just to sure ?
@ One of the points in this video was how to get more noise out of your exhaust without spending a lot of money on a Remus non res cat back system - Which is what I have. That systems replaces both resonators as it’s the Remus race. In the video I am suggesting instead of spending a lot of money on an exhaust system that will remove either both or one of the resonators, just do a single res delete, saving you money. A garage will replace that with a pipe, and it won’t be much to do that.
@ thanks mate I don’t want it to loud but more than stock so will go for yhe one first . Love the content
Ive tried several snowfoams and I can tell you the one you are recommending is one of the worst in my opinion
@@clarkfox7961 Nice. Perhaps you could be using it differently.
Nice video Reg. I even noticed local roads to me. I’ll have to keep an eye out for you. Totally agree with the lowered car on stock shocks. Mine is very crashy. B8’s are definitely on my shopping list. I’ve hit the sub button, and eagerly await the next instalment.
Love the modern Clubsport's, Mk8, Mk8.5 can be track weapons. So the Golf can be a fun car, engaging, the weight is correct, but I pick the Beemer anyways and I never quite agreed with the looks of the 1 series. A lot of work required to make then look slightly better, lot's of lowering, plastics, tinting involved. Always loved the 3 series though, F30 and G20 can look so sweet, but if I could afford it I would likely build a stripped out lighter 140 summer car, use the M340i as a daily.
My 03' XA20 2WD 5 Door has a staggering 340,000+ and still drives well, the easy design makes it a breeze to change spark plugs which as been the only thing ive had to worry about besides regular maintenance. The Rainforest Pearl with added steppers from a newer model makes this thing look gorgeous
I want to put b8’s on my m240i but I don’t know if I’ll get any warnings since I have stock adaptive dampers, does anyone have any experience on how it works?
I have a stock M140i recently purchased used. They came with run flats. I've driven an M5 before so am familiar with harsh ride quality of an M car. The m140i feels harsher ride. Would changing run flats to a michelin pilot sport 5s alleviate some of this harshness?
Yes absolutely !
Is 21k for a 2018 m140i with 27k mikes from BMW main Dealer with 1 year warranty a goid price? Only extra otion is a 560£ paint
@@fizywig I would say 20 is a good deal. The mileage is awesome but it has 1 option. Try for 20, then you got a bargain.
More to do with machined tolerances and uneven temperatures causing differing rates of thermal expansion than oil temp
Great honest video Reg👍, got the underbody brace and the bilstein’s with eibach springs. Car feels great. Was considering the Remus cat back but don’t want to much noise. So after this video I’m considering just the Remus back box
Thanks Chris, appreciate that. Yeah, great shout on just the back box. It will still sound great and be a noticeable improvement on stock without drawing too much attention to your car!
You don't know what your missing not getting the wavetrac it's a total game changer. Can't hear it at all it still works with one wheel off the ground ALL conditions including snow and ice on the right tires doesn't really need servicing like anything clutch based. Skip the Michelin's and go for the continental sport contact 7 ideal tyre better everywhere than the MPS4S and spl parts front and rear and an aggressive alignment with stock adaptive dampers 👌🏻 Only thing holding it back is the stock adaptives they just can't handle the additional load from hugely more grip. I would save your pennies and go for tractive suspension if your planning to keep the car very long term
great vid, subbed especially for the PS5s, I love them

How old are you? I’m 26 and having the same Exhaust take back haha. Very noisy but still makes me smile in tunnels!
Older than you by a bit ! Yup, it always puts a smile on on my face when I hear the ZF farts or the brum/pop when I lift off the gas after a hard pull!
It’s always gunna be better because one side is dry and the other has hydrated the dirt which will lift it easier!
Thanks for the adding the part about the bilsteins in, guess those will be my next even though I have adaptive!
Nice video Reg with the Bilstein B8 addon 😁👍... I also can highly recommend the PS5's regarding their performance in wet and dry conditions, cos I have them on my M140i 😁👌 Regarding your morning coldstart. If you press the accelerator very slightly after starting the car it cuts the noise in half, and is exactly what I do every time I start the car up where I live 😁😉 Takes a bit of practice to get it right but it does 100% work 👍
Thanks Dean. Yes you’re right about that. I actually do that but not when the engine is stone cold in the morning. Usually I’ll do that when people are around and I’m trying to go somewhere without drawing too much attention to myself 🤣
@@roadreg1820 Ideally I wouldn't do the coldstart trick on a stone cold engine but I've got no choice re my 35 neighbours on the complex where I live, and it's what made them finally except me😉😂

Also not tuned still? Mate you have to do it. I've done them all 1, 2 and 2+. 2+ the car just generally drives much better all round when low speeds I have sports cat and the Remus race exhaust it's completely fine with cold start off
@@legendgalaxy I think it’s time to delete that. I wouldn’t mind a sports cat one day, but my Gosh it wouldn’t be subtle anymore 😆
Thinking about the B8's but I have adaptive suspension which feels bad to remove. Have you considered M4 LCA? Also surprised you haven't down the powerflex or MMX bushes for subframe and diff
I’ve just done the B8’s with the M4 LCAs and got rid of the adaptive. I have the M Performance LSD and powerflex subframe and diff inserts. Car feels amazing. I’m glad I did the B8’s as they are more refined at dealing with bumps than adaptive ever was and, the LCAs compliment nicely with better turn it, less steering input and a heavier steering (which I like). Wish I did the B8’s 2 years ago rather than a maxton bodykit all the way round but we live and learn. Cars solid now and is a real pleasure to push in a straight line and in the bends. I find myself less bothered about straight line now and more corners given the M4 LCAs. Being stage 2+ as well it’s a real joy and when I do hit triple digits (on the autobahn lol) it is way more stable with the B8’s than adaptive ever was. It’s slightly firmer at lower speeds but it doesn’t crash and feel like it’s sunk in potholes like adaptive did.
@marveysingh9592 nice what I expected. Only reservation is removing the adaptive. Just got a quote for over 2k for the suspension, inserts and LCA fitted. Damn!
@ from who? It sounds about right. I paid £1700 for B8’s, fitted, adaptive coded out, M4 LCAs fitted, alignment done. My adaptive suspension has been removed for around a month now no issues
@@marveysingh9592 performance M, seems a bit high to me it was circa £750 on labour, for 1 days work if that
@ yeah same place that did mine. They are expensive but the quality of work is good. See if there are any Black Friday deals. Their labour should include alignment though which is crucial.
First!
Congratulations!
I have adaptive suspension in my m140i so would you still say it’s worth getting the B8s?
I would say so yeah, if you can afford it comfortably then why not. It will make it even better
I think what this proves Reg is that you wasn't driving in Eco Mode 🤔😂
@@deanoearly8817 Just normal ‘Comfort Mode’ 🤩
@roadreg1820 Alot of people don't like the Eco Mode so I've read but if used properly with the coasting feature and driving like Miss Daisy 😂 I've seen over 50mpg 😁😉👌
The GTI is nice for what it is and has a lot of Heritage, obviously made better from what your mate has done to his but for me, I'd have my M140i all day everyday... Plus how many cars with around 370hp do you know that can give you 37-40+ mpg in comfort, high 40's low 50's in Eco mode, high 20's Sport, high teens low 20's Sport+.. This are the figures and hp of my car which I think is a phenomenal bit of kit 😍😁👌
Just like your M140i I have Eibach lowering springs from Motech Performance aka The Motech Stance , ultra racing under body brace and front strut brace.. My question to you is, when you had your B8 dampers fitted does it make the ride feel too firm along side the other mods? Your advice would be most appreciated 😁👍 Have you thought about getting your canards in black rather than the standard silver and Maxton kit cos they would finish your beast off nicely 😁👌
Very nice! The Dampers make the car smoother and not bounce around. Whilst they are firm, they are not uncomfortable or crashy. That’s a good suggestion!
You’re comparing snow foam to nothing. Would have been interesting to see it compared to just a cheap soap/shampoo
That’s the point of the video
@ and the point of my comment is that the point is pointless. No one decides between snow foam or nothing at all. I think people would rather know if it’s worth buying snow foam set up over a cheap bottle of soap.
@ The point of the video is to prove that snow foams aren’t gimmicks and do work, in particular the one I used in the video. I made that quite clear in the video. That’s the ‘point’ I’m making in this particular video, regardless of if you agree or disagree. Thanks for engaging though, and watching.
