Swatching Kissho's New SAIBIBOKU Palette
Kissho and Kobaien collaborated to produce this unique paint that incorporates crushed Sumi inkstick and Gansai paint. I was intrigued to try it and explore its potential for use in my own work.
For my watercolor friends, you can tell from the Camelia in my video, it's taken a while to finish this video! Hope you enjoy it!

New Schmincke Watercolor Super Granulation Urban Set - Horadam Aquarell
Переглядів 9 тис.Рік тому
I think this Limited Edition Super Granulation Urban set is rather different to Schmincke’s other ones. The contrast between the pigments is less dramatic. The tones are more gentle, subtle and sophisticated. They’re very practical for daily use. Although it’s still formulated around 2 single pigments from the Volcano set (PY159 & PR108) they still offer a very different and distinct look to al...

Schmincke Horadam Aquarell Special Edition "Ultimate Mixing Set"

This is a swatching video of Schmincke's new collaboration palette with New Zealand abstract artist Evan Woodruffe - known for using bold and vibrant colour. Thank you so much for this video! I had not understood these paints are really more Gansai than Sumi and so can be reactivated. Oh well, they are gorgeous, so I am not sorry I bought them. I am still learning about Japanese media and techniques. If you do Nihonga paintings, I would really be interested in having an explanation of the materials and their use!

    Wonderful video. Thank you for showing the watercolor paper texture differences between those top professional brands. I’ve watched a lot of paper reviews and no one I can remember ever showed the texture comparisons. That makes a huge difference to me because that’s the one thing I was curious about but didn’t have the money to buy the different brands to try myself. I know what I like texture don’t have the extra money to experiment. Thank you so much For making this video. I really hope that you do come back to UA-cam and create more videos.

    Thank you for sharing this video. I hoped it wasn't a platform to show off expensive branded art supplies and you didn't disappoint. The information about sable brushes was very informative since I'm someone who balks at the price of Rosemary and Co. Kolinsky brushes. However seeing the performance of the da Vinci Maestro sable brush against your finger verses the Tintoretto sable brush's performance was enlightening. The Tintoretto brush you received may have been created by someone having a poor day and inadvertently by-pasted quality control; however, it's bristle quality didn't appear as if it would have been equal to the Rosemary and Co. product on its best day. While the Tintoretto brush's tip appeared choppy and its belly was frizzled after the sizing was removed, the Maestro's bristles continued to look as sleek and polished as it's regal handle. Neither seemed superior in its pristine shipping condition. Removing the sizing was key. I hoped to see synthetic sable brush compared to a similar Rosemary & Co. product. Have you located a suitable substitute for kolinsky... that would work for hobbyist? 👏🤎💚🤎💚🤎💚🤎

    • @Papertude
      @Papertude 2 місяці тому

      You're right, my Tintoretto sable is one off bad brush. So far, the best widely available synthetic sable alternative's I've found that work are the Aqua Elite range from Princeton. Size 10 is one of my daily go-to's for sketchbooks.

    Ms. Papertude, Thank you for all the swatching videos and the pigment information you include on the screen. For me, having important information on the screen reduces confusion since toxicity of craft products are a concern. I don't often have young children in my home, but when they visit, they're always able to locate whatever I lost months prior. Immediately after an item is found, it goes into their mouth. Both synthetic and organic watercolor pigments have ingredients which can be harmful and/or irritating. Experienced adults artist are aware that paint pigments ingredients contain oxides, ferrites and numerous "ates" that present varying degrees of toxicity. Most are aware of the health and safety preclusions required when working with highly toxic supplies containing cadmium, lead, iron oxides, cobalt, azo calcium salts, mercury, zinc, etc. Since it's close to impossible not use toxic paints, is there a way to determine the ingredients contained in each hue? Are granulating/super granulating paints more toxic than non-granulating paints due to the larger pigments used to create them? I'm not certain if these questions will make sense to a professional arts. If anyone understands what I'm trying to ask, please chime in. I'm hoping fore-knowledge will avoid a trip to emergency room as kids seem willing to try anything that isn't food.🤨🤔🤭🙄. thanks 🤎💚🤎💚🤎💚🤎

    • @Papertude
      @Papertude 2 місяці тому

      I don't think super-granulating paint are any more toxic than the same pigments in a finer form. It would ultimately be down to the chemical composition of the ingredients and concentrations. Well established brands label the toxic contents clearly such as Cadmium and Cobalt. You can find health and safety data sheets on their website. Mainstream brands often offer related hues as alternatives to these. In general, the art world has been debating discontinuation of these for years, the rule of thumb seems to be dry fine powder form poses a danger from inhalation. Ready made colours are relatively less dangerous when handled correctly (humans and pets should not eat!). It's just my opinion, but I hope this helps.

    I have that palette size from other Schmincke releases and I've managed 32 half pans without the insert ;-) Mine has the two flat mixing wells...you are right, that ridged lid is odd. If this was the ULTIMATE mixing set, then I'm surprised they didn't put full pans in lol. I find this to be a very idiosyncratic/personal palette for one artist's style; maybe fun to play with, but not one I'd line up for.

    Congratulations for choosing such a beautiful palette! I’ve used White Nights for years. Love them. In fact, it was the very first “pro” watercolor set that I bought for myself. Back then, I think I paid ~$45 or so for the 24 full pan palette. Almost immediately I regretted it,…regretted that I didn’t buy the 36 full pan set instead! Since then, I’ve acquired many other pro watercolor sets and tubes by other brands, too. But the white nights paints are what I consider my “emotional” paints, if that makes any sense. They are just beautiful and I love them. And yes, I actually wound up purchasing two more full 36 pan sets, because I never wanted to run out! Thanks for the video!

      Fortunately the higher end brands such as schmincke sell open stock so you never have to buy a full set. You can just supplement your existing paint. You likely have at least one phthalocyanine blue already, so don’t get one of those, but look for the things which are further from what you already have but not awkward. The perylyn green, potters pink and transparent orange are very useful and quite easy/fun to work with, for example. But the turners yellow can be harder as it is quite dominant.

    Wow, Arteza paper has such pleasant texture and these paints lay on it so beautifully.

    Yummy! 🫶 I, too, was thinking these remind me of my Graphitints … not as graphite shiny, but same sort of muted palette. I love swatching 🤗🤗🤗

    The malachite is my absolute favorite color. Turquoise is also beautiful.

    What a beautiful color palette and such a soothing presentation. Do you know when this gorgeous set will be available in the USA?

    • @Papertude
      @Papertude 10 місяців тому

      It was available when I uploaded, but they sold out! As it's not a limited set, I'm sure some sellers will get it back. I'll keep an eye out and update the links when it does!

    Those colors are amazing! But I assume these palettes aren't available for anyone to buy? Colors so full of pigment would fit my painting much better then regular water color. Still haven't figure that out, how to do all the blending.

    • @Papertude

      They're sold out in the US for now, but I linked some sets in similar style in the video description. The exact set is available from amazon.co.jp (also linked in the description box). Hope that helps 🤗

      @@Papertude Thank you. I did check out the links, but i must say i am not familiar with the japanese language and or currency. I do not live in the US either. I did find 1 webshop who seem to sell these sort of paints. But ofcourse not exactly this pallete and not for a reasonable price either. So i have to pass. Its not like i really need it 🙈 haha. But it would defenitly fit my 'style' better. When i started painting, i started with oil paint. Have been using that for a few years. I try to learn the watercolor thing. But maybe its just not for me. Cant be good in everything 😆

      If you want to give watercolor a proper chance, I'd honestly say to start with artist grade Schmincke or Daniel Smith. They'll be well behaved and won't fail you. Or, if the intensity and opacity attracts you, maybe consider playing with Holbein's Gouache. Have a nice weekend 🤗

    What is approx. cost and where to purchase?

    • @Papertude
      @Papertude 10 місяців тому

      This one was around $60 but sold out on most large sites. I updated links in the description to include a similar "Exceptional Palette" - they just released it and it follows the "Ultimate" set. Alternatively, as the colors aren't limited edition, they can be bought separately. Hope that helps 🤗
