It's been four months since the last haul. Time for me to share with you the new art supplies I've been collecting. I include two items worth mentioning from the last haul and some new item demos and try ons. Links are all in the description. Hope you find something nice and enjoy the time at my desk! Wishing you all Happy Holidays and a great 2023.
Hahnemühle make 100% cotton sketchbooks which I find quite nice to use. Otherwise, but more expensive, you also have the handmade Koval sketchbooks. Also, I weirdly missed the news of Kim Jung Gi's death. He was so young! It makes me really sad as this guy was an absolute genius.
It took me several days to get over the sad news too. Incredible talent and such a generous teacher. Thanks for the suggestion on the Koval sketchbooks. I'll definitely give them a try now. 🤗🥰
Wonderful video I'd really love to see you do a video on the kissho pI ts I adore Japanese watercolours and those colours are so gorgeous .lots of goodies for my list thank you ✌️🌻
Such a lovely, relaxing video. So many interesting supplies to discover💕 I would be very interested to learn how the Unico paint brush performs in a future video. Thanks for sharing your goodies with us. I hope you have a lovely holiday season.
Thank you! 😊 That Unico is way beyond my expectations for a mop! It's very comfortable in the hand. Will update on it in a future video. All the best and enjoy the holiday season! 🤗
Nope you are not being too picky at all! That sketchbook was egregious, yikes! Have you tried the etchr 100% cotton sketchbooks? I buy them through amazon and I use the hotpress for gouache and the coldpress for watercolor. I've also heard good things about the 500 series strathmore mixed media journal, which I am excited to try next!
Thanks! It's reassuring to hear I'm not too picky! I veered away from Etchr due to the cost, but, here I am, the cost of a few bad items adds up! Etchr is on my Christmas wishlist now - and because of you ... Strathmore 500 too! 😂🤗. Have a great Holiday season!
Your tribute drawings of Kim Jung Gi turned out very well! If your artwork is important to you, or if you are selling it, stick to any paper made with cotton, none with wood pulp, even if it's buffered (acid-free). As far as warping goes, I've been watching some Studio Ghibli background painting masters and they paint on a piece of glass, wetting both sides of the paper, it's fascinating to watch.
What a beautiful video! Your videos must be the most aesthetically pleasing unboxing-videos on YT! 😍 - Yes, I would like to see you swatch the Japanese paints! And thank you for finding the Staedtler pencil-extender, I will be looking out for that! 😘
Thank you so much Chrissie! 🤗 I forgot to mention about the Staedtler, the grip is very textured, so when your hands are tired you still have a great grip. The black one (being limited) is often highly priced on amazon listing, but there's a silver one (not limited) that's identical and more reasonably priced. The Black is lovely though😂, it looks really classy. Decisions decisions 🤗
You must have the best time choosing what you are going to buy..😊. The box those Japanese paints came in was so pretty! It seriously looked like a box of expensive chocolates. I look forward to seeing what you create with all your new goodies..🥰
Love your videos - it's nice to just to look at things with only music playing, so relaxing. I recently purchased the Canson Art book as well, they could have been a bit more accurate with paper cutting but I don't mind, it's good enough for me. Yes, I'd like to see swatches for all new watercolours. :)
Only spotted your lovely message stuck in "held for review". The only problem I found, having used the Canson Art book for a while, is some of the pages being back to front. Other than that, considering the price, it's pretty good. Have a nice day! 🤗
Love so much your videos!!! Please do the swatches 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 that would be lovely and I am so curious to see the colors on the paper. Also, I absolutely LOVE your drawings and watercolor paintings. Is there any chance for you to honor us with some tutorials of the masterpieces you’ve just shown in your sketchbooks? I am sure not only me, but many other people would enjoy that so much 🙏🏻
Awww Fabricius! Thanks for your always so lovely and sweet comments. With such encouragement, I'll try more drawing process and painting videos in future. Have a wonderful holiday season. All the best 🤗😘
I thought Molin du Roy was discontinued ... I couldnt find it except from Jackson's Art for a looong time. Very happy to see it turning up elsewhere now! 🤗
after seeing this Video, I wonder if you are intersted in making calligraphy Video in the future? watching you doing the pen brush test while doing calligraphy are so calming and beautifull, especially when you do the kanji charchter, and I wish its longer.. no preassure of course. thanks for sharing your video with us ♥️
Thanks Archie The RedCat for appreciating my Kanji Calligraphy! 🤗 I was 50/50 whether to do Kanji characters or draw a Maneki neko (lucky cat)! 😊 I'll try incorporating a longer section next time 🥰
I always remove this bar code sticker from things, I want to remove from your brush ahuahuahuahuhaua I saw the italian brush in a italian youtuber I always think that is a dragon scale brush , I think beautifull, I upgrade to mix media by canson that I hate to xl aquarelle I hope next year I jump at least some montval. The freebies was great, I just won dot card once and I feel fancy!!! Other times I ask some paper to try if they have . I 'm detail too It's kind anoying when things are not made well, my mom sometimes say that I'm like old people in this ocasions. I love monoggraph mechanical pencils I just want the clip was less flimsy, I have some pastel lilac, blue, yellow and coral, some trasparent in yellow , clear and blue, and the neon that I want to complete the collection I have the orange and yellow, I have some other color that I want , from the collection that you choose I like the blue and green. I wish my currency wasn't 1 dolar =5-6 reais. I have that not expensive comparing to your version of the staedtler mechanical pencil and I don't love, but everytime I see this pencil holder in aliexpress I think that i would like to try. I hate the line parts inside the watercolor box , don't make sense to mix paint so much deep indentations is few space. I always think by the way that you film that you should be very organized, metodic and calm person. I think to me is more easy or try draw my stick doll draws in loose paper than sketch book, I think weird that people make this rule that all the spaces should be full , that only have to had at minimall good or awesome finished pieces, too much pression and sometimes you just put stick dools to put your ideia in a better way , I think should be more free. Do you like more big brushes ? jesus , I wrote a lot!!!! Merry Christmas and have a great holiday , I think in Brasil we comemorate in diferent dates and way!!!! Have a great new year with a lot of prosperity, happiness, heath and abundance, and the ways to you achive your goals or dreams appears very easy and clear to you!!!
Ha ha ha .. I normally remove ALL stickers too .. but this one defeated me ... halfway through the remaining residue was awful so I stuck it back! 😂 You sure wrote a lot - and I loved reading every word. It was great to hear your thoughts on everything. People do make sketchbooks difficult if they need everything perfect, each page is harder than the next and it becomes impossible. I see Sketchbooks as a bit of a journey with ups and downs, an artistic diary and timeline of places and things around me, but without words. When I look back and see some mess ups, they tell me a better story than the good ones. With loose paper, I'd probably conveniently "lose" the bad ones "accidentally" 😂. Yes, I do like big brushes, as long as they have a good tip they become a multitasker for me - good for detail, but with a large water reservoir. Thanks for your comprehensive lovely wishes! You covered all the bases! I wish you a very Merry Christmas too and happy and healthy new year. All the best 🤗🤗
Beautiful video. Thank you. I’d be very interested to see what you think of the Royal Talens Art Creation sketchbook (your Amazon haul). After seeing so many artists use these, I too purchased and tried. And, sorry to say, I’ve been very disappointed. Absolutely not appropriate for watercolour and even with coloured pencils, you can’t press too hard as the paper doesn’t hold up. Anyway, the paper is only 140gsm.
Thank you Jane! Haven't broken into the Art Creation sketchbook yet, I hope at 140 it'll be ok for sketching at least. Hope to get some time over the holidays to have a proper go. 🤗
The no14 Pitt Graphite matt pencil, has more shine than their no12. Many people don't use the No14 at all, because no12 is almost the same darkness, but with noticabely less shine!!
Thank you for this interesting video! I was very disappointed about the Colineo brush too. It’s also far too stiff for mimicking sable. My favorite synthetic brush is Aqua Elite from Princeton. Pls. let us know how the horse hair brush turned out. 😊 However, I have a question. I saw that you have things coming from Japan. Do you know, if one can order also empty pans from Kissho or another Japanese company. I find the usual full pans that one can buy in Europe and US too small, but I just can’t find any bigger empty ones anywhere. The Japanese sizes are perfect. Thank you again.😊
I totally agree Martina, and also found Aqua Elite to be a much better sable mimic. For large pans: I've never seen them available on their own. I did a quick search in Japanese, but found nothing. I can only suggest digging in AliExpress, or, if you only need a few you could have them 3D printed. 🤗
I like artcreation sketchbooks for gouache, acrylics and if you gesso the pages, oil paints and oil pastel work fine too. I don't like them for drawing though. There's not much tooth so it doesn't pick many layers and the graphite never gets dark enough and it starts slipping pretty soon. The other day I was trying to paint a really dark shirt so I picked a carbon pencil instead and it didn't even work right .I thought my carbon pencil was really bad quality because it just slipped like I was painting on plastic or something, but when I tried it in more textured paper, it worked great.
Thanks for the tips. I haven't started using it yet but pleasantly surprised to hear they can take so many media. Will be giving them a proper try over the holidays.

Thank you for such a lovely calming and interesting video. I’d love to see the Kissho paints swatched
Thanks for the kind comment. As there's some interest from a few folks I'll put it on my shortlist. Keep an eye out! 🤗

There's one in the works (lol, I am very slow!) 🐌
We love your channel. Could you do a demo of those fascinating Japanese paints possibly in a new video? Would love to see what they are like.
Thanks Rebecca. Will do - it's on my shortlist now! Watch this space 🤗
