In this more lengthy video, I fly along the South Coast and come into contact with some of my favourite air traffic controllers. Also trying having the route displayed on screen, as when I watch other people flying I’m interested to know what routes they favour. Let me know what you think, if it’s irritating I won’t keep doing it 👍🏼
Review of the WT9 Dynamic Light Sport Aircraft or Microlight with Rotax Engine

There was a time, not so long ago, when the only way you could get Eve onto an aircraft was with the use of alcohol and/or drugs. Since we have had our EuroFOX, she has become a more willing passenger and occasionally reports enjoying our flights together. Imagine my surprise when, at the Popham Microlight Trade Fair in 2024, she announced that she ‘loved’ the WT9 Dynamic that was on display th...

In 'Part One' of this two part episode, I fly to Lee on Solent Airport to meet my brother to take him for a flight along the south coast. En route I have to battle my way past others passing directly in the opposite direction. I'm kept safe by the ATC operators at Bournemouth Airport, but let down by my powers of observation. Started flying again recently and copied your Audio set up for recording in flight. Asked my Instructor if it was ok to record my lessons and he said yes. I am very pleased with it. Your set up works perfectly so thanks again Geoff for your video on this subject. Looking forward to your next adventures.
That’s fantastic! I’m delighted that someone has physically benefitted from one of my videos 🥳 Thanks for letting me know! I hope you post some videos too 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@@FlyingDarkLord Yep, I shall let my Instructor get used to the idea of sound recording my lessons then nonchalantly ask nicely if I may put in a couple of Gopro type cameras, perhaps after my solo. 😆
@ People out there are itching to know what sort of things go on in flying lessons, so I know anything that gives information on that will be a hit 👍🏼 Let me know when you post 😉
Bonjour Geoff.
Can the headphones be used without any batteries?
I believe so, although there is no active noise reduction, so in an emergency you can still communicate 🤔
How often do you change the batteries.
@@sufyanmukhtar6336 I fly 100 hours a year on average & change the batteries around 3 times each year. They last very well 👍🏼
I was thinking to buy the aviation x headphones. What's the battery length between those old things and these new? Any idea?
@ I own a pair of Bose A20 headsets that I bought myself. Your guess is as good as mine 👍🏼
Great vid about recording. On my Zoom H1 there is a setting for WAV and MP3. Do we use WAV for recording cockpit audio ? Thanks.
That’s a personal choice… .wav gives you better quality but .mp3 takes less memory. Given that I am recording just voice in a noisy environment & the device is running for (sometimes) over an hour, I tend to use .mp3. You can experiment & find what works best for you depending on your comms setup & editing software 😊👍🏼
@@FlyingDarkLord Thanks so much Geoff again.
Another music video. Nuts. I want to hear engine sounds.
Don’t worry, this is an easy fix… Grab your phone, load up this video, jump into the passenger seat of a friends car, get them to drive at 100mph with all the windows open, hit ‘play’ & enjoy! You’ll have exactly the same background noises as a microphone would pick up (even if it was placed inside the cockpit of this fabric aircraft)… You’re welcome 😉👍🏼 Pilots use Active Noise Reduction headphones when flying, as the ‘natural noise’ in the aircraft would otherwise damage the ears & cause significant fatigue. In my opinion, the only time an aircraft like this might sound good is as a spectator on the ground as it flies past.
Off question, but does anyone know the name of the pen that he is using. They became popular in the 1990's.
Lamy AL-Star ballpoint pen in black 😉👍🏼
@@FlyingDarkLord Brilliant! That's it. I used to sell these when I worked at an art store over 30 years ago. The red and blue LAMY Safari's used to be the most popular back then. They sat right beside the Montblanc display. Anyway, I wish you happy times in your future aircraft as you sign off on the sale of G-COCG with your LAMY pen.
@ In these times of computers & phones I do look back with nostalgia on the joy that good stationery brought! I think good penmanship is an art & I still enjoy decent stationery! Pens, watches, glasses & shoes are men’s equivalent to jewellery for women! 😄👍🏼 Thanks for following us, watching the video & taking time to comment 🙏🏼
Proud to be your friend, and part of your journey… even if I do sound like a bumpkin on the radio!
You’ve been there for me from the start sir! You may sound weird on the radio 🤪, but you’re a bloody amazing pilot & I’m so fortunate to be able to call you my friend! 😎👍🏼
Can the headset be connected to an ipad to stream video audio during flight, while plugged into the aircraft’s audio?
That is a very good question! Given that you can Bluetooth to a mobile phone & have a conversation via the A20 headset through an iPhone it seems plausible. I have never thought to try it 🤔 Sadly I’ve just sold my aircraft & so currently am not in a position to experiment with that… but what a great idea 👍🏼
@ Thanks for your response and the detailed explanation of the A20 headset. I like the headset enough that i’ll be purchasing two extra pairs for my kids to listen to their iPads during trips. I may need audio cables to make it all work, but being able to listen via Bluetooth makes for a much cleaner interface.

It’s is a great design, I agree 👍🏼 Thanks for watching 😊
Cheers mate! First time I've watched your videos. G-COCG is the EuroFox and the plane I am flying across the United States [from Seattle, Washington to Indianopolis, Indiana] to take deliery of on Tuesday, November 5th, is the Aeropro CZ A240, N573T exact same plane as yours just a different company. It was lovely to hear how much you LOVE(D) G-COCG and I am certain beyond a doubt that I too will love my plane every bit as much. I hope and pray that you will fall in love with your new aircraft quickly and grow to cherish her as much as you did G-COCG. God Bless. Brian

Great looking plane. Love the colour of your plane . Impressed how well your dressed😊
The EuroFOX is a fantastic aircraft & we were so lucky to be able to specify the colour we wanted. We chose that as it was radically different from most aircraft we see. I had just finished work & so was smartly dressed. A friend offered to fly me to collect my aircraft & so I didn’t have time to change into something less formal, but thank you 😊👍🏼 Thank you too for watching & commenting 🙏🏼
I hope you can keep that great tail number.
Sadly in the UK the tail number is fixed to the aircraft forever & is not transferable 😔 But I’m sure I can choose something similar for my next aircraft 🤞🏼 Thank you for watching 😊
Oh man, I can imagine very well how hard that decision was. Unfortunately, us normal people don't have the cash to keep all our priced possessions and just keep adding. Sometimes we have to part with one or more to get into something more serious. Either way, you will gain a TREMENDOUS amount of experience through the trade and it's not like you couldn't get yourself another great small plane, if you hate the new one. The fella who gets yours will feel even happier, when you report him your experiences and show him this video and others. It is a gift you can make someone and THAT is special all in itself.
I agree with you, sometimes you’ve got to break a few eggs to make a cake 😊👍🏼 It was amazing to see how excited the new owner of my ‘FOX was when we shook hands on the deal. He looked like he loved it as much as I did when I saw it for the first time. The deal on the used aircraft I was looking at sadly fell through 😢… the exciting news is I have a new aircraft on order… & a huge loan 😂… but life is short & we’ve got to live it whilst we can! I’m going to tour the factory next month, so it’s all getting rather exciting! Build completion is scheduled for March 2025 🥳 Thanks for watching & commenting 👍🏼
@@FlyingDarkLord Oh man! Lots has happened since the video release then. That is indeed quite unfortunate about the other aircraft, but it was supposed to happen for a reason. March isn't that far away and getting the plane a little later makes it that much more special! God speed and I am looking forward to your update ;)
So, what is the new aircraft?
I was desperate for a Mosquito, but sadly neither my budget & NPPL will permit me to get behind the controls of one of those 😭 So having to look at other options 🤷🏻♂️ Any suggestions! 🤔
You hope it’s the right decision , that’s not good you should make sure first before committing yourself??
Unfortunately, there can be no guarantees or absolute certainties in life. Sometimes we must take a chance and leap into the unknown, using what life experience we have to guide us as much as possible. I took a chance with the first aircraft I bought & it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made… despite not even having a pilots licence! 😮 For me, I feel that life is short & I would rather do something & regret it, than regret not doing it for fear of failure. A little cliche, I know, but it really is true 👍🏼 Thanks for watching & commenting… hopefully you’ll stick with us to see how it all pans out 🤞🏼👍🏼
If you're not sure, then why are you doing it?
I have found, over the course of my life, that being in a relationship has many positive advantages. One of the great attributes is that your partner will often encourage you to experience something new or do something different that (if you were on your own) you would not normally have considered. My wife constantly encourages me to expand my horizons, & whenever I do so, I find that my life is richer & more colourful for it. So rather than getting stuck in a rut or routine with something we are familiar with, we are going to push the limits a little more & see what happens! 😊👍🏼 If we don’t have a good outcome then at least we’ll have a good story & have learnt something along the way 🤞🏼
I'm going to miss G-CG! Whoever has bought it is an incredibly lucky person!
She enriched our lives in so many ways, we will miss her dearly 😢 A chap called Sam is now the new owner & I believe is is also in love with it 😊👍🏼
If you can afford it you should have it. Plus as Nick would say. It’s a depreciation less asset. It won’t actually cost you anything. The decision is virtually made. Go for it. Looking forward to seeing videos of you crossing the channel to France, Holland and into Germany. Very quickly. 🎉
Nick has a very good way of putting it & in fairness to him, following my experience with the EuroFOX his argument stands true! So 🤞🏼 watch this space for success or catastrophe… either way we’re hoping it’ll be entertaining 😂
Just found your channel, and watched the video purely because you were flying a Fox. Those and Cubs are among my favourite light aircraft. Sad to see that you were selling it. Wishing you every happiness with your new 'baby'.
Thank you for watching 😊👍🏼 You are spot on though, that class of aircraft is definitely the best. Great ‘go anywhere’ performance & forgiving handling. I will really miss mine, but hoping what is to come will add another dimension to my flying 🤞🏼 Hopefully see you back on the channel, but I really appreciate you commenting & taking time to watch 😊🙏🏼
Nice to have the guts to put emotions in
I’ve been surprised at how positive the responses have been 👍🏼

Thank you very much! 😊 It’s all a bit challenging at the moment, but hopefully by the new year we will have a better idea of where we stand 🤞🏼
@@FlyingDarkLord Rooting for you. 👍
Having climbed up the aviation ladder from a Piper Tomahawk to a turbine twin and now back down the ladder to my 6th aircraft, a Rans S20 that I built myself I can honestly say that every one of them was “the best plane I ever had”. New or second hand didn’t matter…just that it was the right bird for the time. Two seats to start, 4 seats when the kids came, longer legged birds and IFR when we had to back at work on Monday. Now retired rediscovering simple flying, and grass strips closer to home. Sounds like your decision to change was carefully considered and if so I’m sure the new-to-you plane will soon become your new favourite best ever ship. Good for you and good luck!
Thank you sir, that is very reassuring to hear 🙏🏼 It sounds like you have had an incredible aviation history & I’m in awe of that 🤩 I’m also flattered that you took the time to watch my amateur attempts at flying around the sky in my little plane! 😮 Thank you for your thoughtful comment 😊🙏🏼👍🏼
@@FlyingDarkLord I emigrated from the UK to Canada with my parents as a 3yr old. I often wonder how or if my aviation passion might have unfolded had I grown up in London. Channels like yours let me imagine an alternate history 😀 My UA-cam channel will give you some idea of what actually transpired…though it focused mostly on the Piper Malibu years with I think one short vid in the Conquest, a slide show of a North Atlantic hop and a few short ones in the Rans. It’s no where near as pro or developed as your channel…making good quality videos is a lot of work…as you know! I have frequently returned to the UK over the years to visit family….next time I hope to stay a little longer and get some GA flying in. The Eurofox is closest to my Rans S20 so something like it is what I will look to get a few hours in, probably just dual, no need to qualify for self hire. So my question is this. What glasses do you use for flying. The ones you change into, look to be prescription types. Are they ??. I fly Gliders and I am interested in what you use. Thankyou.
They are from a company called Bigatmo. The glasses are all made to order & are fully customisable in terms of frames, lenses, mirror finish, colour & with or without prescription. The company specifically deals with pilots & I have to say give amazing service. They are not cheap, but (in my opinion) worth it! It’s been an absolute delight to fly with you sir, in the Blue Angel , and as always, your videos remain superb in every way !! Look forward to seeing your next instalment , Oh Darkest of Lords…. Keep ‘em coming, sir ( very soon 🤞) Captain Ray 👨✈️
Ah, phew 😅 Finally the wonderfully satisfying stamp of approval from Captain Ray 👨🏼✈️🥳 You are a good man! Thank you very muchly sir & also for the fun times we shared in the Blue Angel ☺️ I’m excited about what is to come & hopefully you’ll still feel comfortable enough to join me again when I finally return to the skies 🤞🏼
@@FlyingDarkLord …….. absolutely can barely wait until you are “re-launched” aloft in the new “Dark Lord Chariot Of The Skies”…. ….. it is all too easy for us to forget just how privileged we are to be counted among the 0.001% of the population !!! …… And to experience what so many can only dream of……. As we once did ! As it is so succinctly put in my favourite aviation poem ……. “Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth, And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds, - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung. High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there, I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air.... Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, - Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."…….. See you soon I trust, sir CR 👨✈️
@@PilotCaptainRay I’m so pleased you thought twice about the stamp collecting! 😄… or we may never have met & slipped the surly bonds together 😊👍🏼
What a wonderful video, sharing your joy of light aviation. I hope the new chapter delivers on all your hopes. It may take a few tweaks I am sure, and nothing good comes easy. I look forward to following your adventure.
That’s a really thoughtful comment, thank you very much 🙏🏻 One of the advantages of being involved in aviation & UA-cam is the positivity that exists like this! I really appreciate you to both watch & make the effort to comment. You are too kind ☺️👍🏼 Looking forward to having you back in the future 😊
Ummmmm…….never thought I’d watch one of your jaunty little videos and come close to tears! It’s only an aeroplane, how do you do it?🫢. Cheers Mate, hope the new machine works out 😁
Thanks CC 🥰 I think it’s because we know the people & the story behind that silly little blue aircraft. Context makes all the difference! It wouldn’t be as magical without friends like you sir! Let’s hope it all goes to plan over the coming months 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
I feel like that when I sell one of my cars. I imagine it’s worse with a plane. 😢
@@daveroe6480 They become part of our life story, whether it’s planes, cars or motorbikes 🥲👍🏼
Wow, I have loved watching your videos so far, I fly out of Old Park in South Wales, so please feel free to pop in some time, depending on what you get next if it can land on a 330m strip. Am looking forward to see what you get next, your very lucky to be living your dream, plus your punching as well marrying that lovely lady. Well done.
😂 loved this comment! Thank you sir! I’ve definitely been very fortunate in life & am punching on so many levels!!! 😄 I’ve already checked out Old Park on SkyDemon & it looks magical. My home airfield is circa 400m so once I’ve got my eye in on the ‘new’ aircraft we may very well drop in on you!!! 😊👍🏼 Thanks for watching & your fantastic comment 😄👏🏼
I live in Bridgend s Wales and I have no idea where old park is as I am not an aviator so can you please let me know where it is please.
@@adamweston4152 more or less opposite Margam Park. Its on the same farm as the in it together festival
You’ll be back to this type of flying. I’m a 22000 hour ATPL, I loved my 150, took hours of joy from a share in a Motor Falke and then bought a Cherokee 6, for range, IFR and load. I flew the PA32 to Cyprus, but I’d flown the 150 there, went to Marrakech, but the 150 had been there first. Now an Auster does what I want, but if I could get another 150/152 I’d have it in seconds. Low and slow with fun people is the way ahead. Enjoy the new aeroplane, you’ll have a warm welcome anywhere, and when you’ve had enough there’ll be a low and slow cruiser ready for you.
It’s interesting you should say that, as the new owner of GCOCG is an airline pilot! I think there is an incredible allure to low & slow, & the EuroFOX is (in my humble opinion) the perfect way to enjoy recreational flight & a capable & wonderful platform from which to view the world 👍🏼 Thanks for watching & sharing those kind words 🙏🏻
@@FlyingDarkLord the Eurofox is an astonishing performer, and I’d love one. Problem is hangarage is getting harder to come by, and she needs it. Keep up the videos. They’re excellent.
Someone will have a great new aircraft and we can look forward of more adventures to come. Best wishes Tim
Thanks Tim, It looks like I’m grounded until early next year, but I’m really hoping we can finally meet up in the new season? 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
All the best for the future Geoff. I was shocked when I saw this on Instagram last month, but sure you will find a different love and enjoyment as part of the next adventure. Look forward to finding out more.
Thank you sir! We are hoping this is the right decision 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 I’m incredibly grateful for your continued support & always pleased to see you in the comments section 🥳👍🏼 Hopefully see you soon
