  • Bad weather, the festive season and work commitments have prevented me for flying for almost 2 months. Finally with a break in the weather I was able to join my former flying instructor for a flight into a full Air-traffic controlled airfield in Gloucester.
Follow along as I get back into flying and hopefully kick off an 'aviation-full' 2023!

Great video Geoff. You should have just departed from the taxiway, crazy short roll. Great air to air shots as well. Drone shots really ramp up the production value as well. 👏👏👏

You are a gentleman sir! I always appreciate & value your opinion 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
The EuroFOX performs soooo well, I pinch myself at how lucky I am to fly it 😊
I was disappointed at the footage & audio I had, but I tried to stitch it together as best I could as I’ve not been able to post content for a while. Hopefully as the weather improves I can up my game a bit more 🤞🏼
Hoping to catch up with you soon too 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Nice video, especially the cool music. I empathize the feeling of a long lay off. I haven't been in the air since Dec 16th when I flew out to Henstridge on a lovely sunny day and with frost all over the northern flanks of hills. Hope to be flying on Wednesday.

I hope you get flying soon 🤞🏼 It really sucks being grounded, especially when you might have a day off & then the weather is crap! 😔
Roll on a ‘nice long summer’ 🤞🏼🤞🏼👍🏼

Ahh good to have you back! Well done for jumping straight into the left seat after 6 weeks as well. It can be daunting after such a lay off 👏. Your airfield looks a lovely place to be as well!

Great to see you again, Geoff. I've always stunned by the performance of the Eurofox - you were off at the numbers! We tried a Eurofox tug at our gliding club which has very short, often waterlogged grass runways. The 'fox pulled a K13 into the air, laden with two pie-filled adults, with no problem. It proved a step too far with heavier two seaters (which we left to the trusty Pawnee) but what an incredible effort from a microlight!

I believe the EuroFOX tugs now come with 915iS engines, which must be crazy!!! 😮👍🏼

It's so wonderful to see you enjoying your flying. I also feel a bit twitchy after not flying for more than a month. It hasn't happened often. I like to see your relaxed approach and getting the most enjoyment from all of your flights.

I've flown into Gloucester once and it was really busy. Low cloud added to the excitement!
Hoping to go again and visit the Jet Age Museum there some time.
Good luck with the event at Popham - hope all goes well.

Gloucester was great! I’d definitely visit there again… I didn’t even know there was a Jet Museum & so therefore I’m compelled to go back!

Hey, Dark Lord…… welcome back.. !
And, this could be you best video yet…… ( marriage proposal flight excepted, of course )….
Exciting, challenging, beautiful and such fun to fly in formation….👍👏
I saw you both on the radar….. I thought it was the Red Arrows at first !! ……. Then I realised it was the Spire View Blue & White Angels ✈️……!!! 😜
Well done, sir for not only venturing above the M4 boundary…….. but for so bravely travelling to a place that’s very nearly known as…”Oooop Nawrth “….. !
You never fail to impress with your varied content and your personal challenges……
    Keep ‘em coming, sir….

You are always too kind with your comments Captain 🫡😄👍🏼
We had a great flight & the sunset made it that more special! I’m confident the Red Arrows could not have flown with such accuracy & finesse as we did! I know they watch the channel & don’t be surprised if you see some of my moves incorporated in their next routine 😉 🤣🤣🤣
I am hoping to go to Europe in the plane this year so thought that going north of the M4 would be a good way of preparing 🤔 It was colder than I anticipated. The locals spoke really good English, so overall a very surprisingly pleasant experience! 😄
I’m glad you enjoyed watching, especially as this video didn’t feel that ‘natural’ for me, but I greatly appreciate your feedback 🙏🏻
Hope to see you soon sir 👨🏼‍✈️

I have been looking forward to this video. I happened to be looking at Flightradar24 on the day this was filmed and saw you not long after takeoff and you almost flew over my house on your route home. I totally understand what you were saying about it being busy, as EGBJ is my home airport and I fly a C42 from there. I learnt to fly from a grass airstrip and, although I have my licence, I still fly with an instructor as I don't yet feel totally comfortable with all the procedures there. I am getting there. I agree that the guys and girls in the tower are really friendly and helpful.

Thanks David, that’s really kind of you. It’s not my best work, but hopefully I’ll pump out some better videos later this year 🤞🏼
I hope you were waving as I flew over! 😄
I’m a low hours pilot & still find some of the radio calls & procedures intimidating. I think it’s just a case of exposure & flying with someone more experienced helps build confidence. We’ll both get there in time 😉👍🏼
      Thanks for watching 😊👍🏼

Your usual high standard video Sir! Did you spot that you were actually airborne before you were clear of the threshold markings. Didn’t really need the rest of the runway 😂. Dobbins engine issues now fixed after Cliff rebalanced the carbs so we’re running sweet as a nut. Let me know when you want to do a flight somewhere and I try and join you. Tail end charlie though. Dobbin doesn’t do ‘fast’. 😊

Thanks for watching & your kind comments 👍🏼 It’s mad how quickly these microlights can get off the deck! Scarily effortless & rendered the runway pretty useless! 😂
Now the days are getting longer & the weather is improving I’m hoping there’ll be more than one chance for us to fly together soon 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Great to see you up in the air again even though it looked very chilly up there, hopefully better weather will come - it has been a really mixed bag over the last month or so. Am I dreaming it or did you do a video on landing at Farway Common Airfield recently?

    • @FlyingDarkLord
      @FlyingDarkLord  Рік тому

Thanks Paul, greatly appreciating you take the time to follow along 😊👍🏼
I can’t wait until we have more consistent weather & can take advantage to get in some good flying 🤞🏼
I did a video on Farway Common & edited the camera angles to make it more ‘visually exciting’ & contentious, but I forgot to put in my usual disclaimers. Consequently the video attracted lots of trolls & some aggressively worded & negative comments so I deleted it 😔
In the future I will make sure I put my disclaimers on… an oversight on my part so I suppose it’s my own fault 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well spotted, I think you’re the only one that noticed that so far 😄
It was a mistake I made in editing. The footage was recorded upside down & I ‘flipped’ the image & didn’t realise I had done it vertically & horizontally until I posted the video.
Having said that, there is a plan for me to take the right seat a little more in the future… but more on that later this year (perhaps) 😉👍🏼

Awesome content as always sir. Just curious, were you surprised by ATC’s willingness to clear you for takeoff so close behind the other aircraft?
I noted that you responded with “cleared to lineup” but then advised them you were taking off once lined up… was that because it then clicked and you then realised they had already cleared you for takeoff?
Just keen to understand your thought process as I too have heard Gloucester is a bit of a beast!

    • @FlyingDarkLord
      @FlyingDarkLord  Рік тому +1

Exactly that! 👍🏼 The other two aircraft ahead of me were advised to line up before being cleared for take off. The editing doesn’t show it but we were waiting there for some time & you can see in the video that I was getting a bit bored & dreaming off into the distance. They recognised that the C42 & I were together so obviously thought they could clear me for immediate departure after them. They gave me the clearance, surprised me & it took my brain half a minute to catch up 😄
      Lesson learnt: ‘Stay Alert’!
Gloucester were very pleasant & I believe they were also doing some training that day, hence two different voices from ATC
