Does the metal unscrew?
@@haydenpryor2494 It does not. We break the wood and place it in. Once the wood is back together you are not able to see the breaks!
@DreamwoodRings ah I see. Very nice work. Can't even see the breaks at all
Hi friend nice work. I hope you not to breathe polish dust during polishing.
@@saqosargis5277 thank you! Yes I try to have a vacuum or mask on when Polishing.
Are the turquoise you sell real and natural gems? ?
@@MegaJadon Yes it is real turquoise!
Great loving your videos ,, I bought some online and they were fake I was disappointed, . Be in touch let me watch more if your work Cheers
Is your substance you’re adding to the finish just CA glue?
Yes that is right.
The circuit board is sandwiched together. Just split it and peel apart virtually eliminating sanding.
I feel that would be nearly impossible while keeping it look good. I'll search UA-cam and see if anyone has done it!
Great video. What lathe are you using?
I now use a jet 1221 wood lathe. It has been amazing. Before that I used a harbor freight wood lathe.
Which machine do you use please ??
Where would I find the carbide roughing tool?
I like both. CA would be harder, more brittle, UV would be softer. So dents and scratches would fallow suit. Just got some UV stuff. Im wandering how well it cures between two sheets of opaque material such as metal or very dark glass, plastic etc. Where its hard toget light into.?
Could you please answer my question?my glue turns black and makes the ring kind of dirty as it gets heated by polishing. İs it the quality of my glue or what
@@negarzamanian5045 are you polishing any metal as well? Or just the ca?
Could you please answer my question?my glue turns black and makes the ring kind of dirty as it gets heated by polishing. İs it the quality of my glue or what
Oh didn't realize this video is 3 years old
Great video. Are you getting the black color in antler ring from the black glue? Im going to make one of these but want the black in it
@@charlessmith6506 I'll still respond! Yeah you can get more black from using the black glue. You want to use the more porous part of the antler and enough black glue to squeeze into all the little cracks.
Third mandrel, i too have a jet midi lathe, don't like the expanding mandrel(second one) do I need the extra tool to get it to fit in my headstock or is it good on its own?
All of these will need something that holds the 1/2" shaft except for the screw on one.
@DreamwoodRings what do you use/suggest?
video looks great! sad to report the 4 brands of CA glue i've tried all dry grey and cloudy.
@@mambocomet dang, are you using accelerator? If so in spray or aerosol? Anything also wet or slightly wet will also have that affect.
Love this! I want to give it a try for sure! Thanks for the thorough instructions.
Great learning for me- I use semiprecious stones in artwork. Thank you for sharing. Will often come back to your website to learn more.
Hi. Can you link the polish that you are using? I looked up a ZAM polish and from what I found, it says it is not a wax polish so I wonder if I am hearing you wrong
Try to shorten the boring bar as much as possible to avoid flex in it when you cut. It will machine your hole you need bigger in diameter. As short as possible but also long enough to work safely.
@@brentnicol6391 Since this video I actually cut this one in half, It is so much better!

Is there a solution if you do end up with air bubbles?
What glue did you use?
How long do you wait for the CA to dry until you turn it? And if you do multiple coats of CA, how long do you wait until you apply the next coat? Thanks for the video!
Holy CRAP I make pens and I am TOTALLY going to try this! I hope I never look back!! Also question - what rpm are you doing when you are applying the activator/CA?
Are tungsten rings normally machined like this? I've always wondered how they were made since I always hear that you can't machine it, but obviously what's not true.
Yeah of course missing a few more steps before this but after formed you can shape them with diamond tools like this!
Where did you get your bentwood? Ive been looking and cant find it anywhere
@@issazombi9758 you can get a large pack here. amzn.to/309gwXq
@@DreamwoodRings what is the polish you use to make the ring look shiny?
@@issazombi9758 I always use a zam polish. It works great! shopdreamwood.com/products/zam-polish-compound
What are those pads you're using to polish?
They are micro mesh pads, however since filming this video I have just moved to 3m 1,000-1,500-2,000 and so on. Much cheaper and works just as well!
Do you cut the waves from veneer using a laser?
I do use a c02 laser to cut the waves!
Thanks and it's really cool. @@DreamwoodRings

What paint were you using please?
A simple acrylic paint for the hobby store.
New at turning .. Thanks for explaining the collet chuck holder in the beginning. For that I subscribed !! It was extremely helpful. Question .. why might my wood ring not be the same thickness all the way around. It measures 6 mm at its thinnest and creeps up to 9 mm as I go around the ring ? Ty
Thank you! Happy to hear that helped. It could be wobbling on the lathe, or just cut crooked?
Are you applying drops of CA?
Yes I am!
This would be a great alternative for CA glue when making pens too I think.
That would be interesting. I have found the resin works better when it is thicker but could work!
Do you have a video showing how you set up the ring with the lathe before removing excess stone? I Checked your links but idk what's holding the two sides or how you connect the step mandrel to the lathe

4:10 How are you able to rotate your ring while it’s engraving? I have a design idea but I’d need to be able to fully rotate my ring
@@CaitlinSmith-n2j I am just using a rotary that plugs directly into the laser.
@@DreamwoodRingsis that a separate purchase from the laser? If so any suggestions on where and what to get?
You need to do a full dip in UV resin for a complete coating and then set it all in one go. Can then file/sand it down a little bit if its a bit thick. Gives an amazing finish as its a complete coat all the way around in one go 👍
Thanks for the tip!
Since there are a lot of comments about the wood "breaking"... Softening "any" wood is best when using a multiple of tricks. But it is always - Water or alcohol, with an added conditioner. There are many things you can add to the liquid if you are having problems. Like, "salt, bleach and baking soda". Heat, time and sometimes "pressure" are your primary variables. (Try using a "pressure cooker" to heat the veneer for a short time). "Especially" with the harder, tighter grained hardwoods. (Like "Bloodwood", Rosewood etc.)! The standard is warm-hot water with a quality "wood conditioner" added to the heated water. "Most conditioners are glycerin based". Ask/call the veneer companies and always shop around"! (There isn't a wood you cannot bend to your will). Well... "Except for maybe old, fully dry-cured, "African Ebony", also called "Ironwood"! Some "Burlwoods", like "Mappa Burl" can be problematic because of their inherent structure, which can cause, "Crumbling" but there are ways around that too! Experiment! Good Luck!
Great tip! Thank you!
