The decision to bring Cirilla as the new main actually is the least controversial part of all. CDPR talked about TW3 being the last of the "Geralt arc", even before the release of The Wild Hunt. And it got covered again with the release of the first teaser image in 2022 I think, so old news. On top they also mentioned that the game would play at least 10 years after TW3. So if Geralt's out, what would be the solution? Besides trying the usual of an unnamed character? Well bringing another known, with an equally exiting story. And that would be Cirilla. Besides she IS the core character of the original Witcher Saga. Continuing her story, was almost a no brainier. As for certain critiques to the lore, fact is that the games while being very much lore friendly have never been cannon or absolute on point with the lore. On top, playing literally after the original Witcher saga, there is always the opportunity, even necessity to expand on the lore. Sure, they have some tough questions to answer like how or why did she became or become a Witcher, but given CDPR's proven abilities in storytelling I have no doubts they thought about this particularly well. And in the end the game is still called the Witcher, not the sorceress. And there is still the real possibility that they will enable a wider range of choices for her development within the story. Afterall, she obviously still uses sorcery even in the trailer. So I personally am more curious then disappointed or surprised in any way. The choice was an almost obvious one, and the design is solid. I like it and am looking forward to hearing more about the game from CDPR.
