    Leaving a studio after creating a critically acclaimed, multi award winning game to found your own studio is not even in the same realm as announcing your leaving "for an opportunity I couldn't pass up" (without elaborating further) after creating an at best, average, game in a beloved franchise...

      Also, EA according to Mark Darrah who was a producer for Dragon Age since the start said that EA made BioWare into a studio that only focuses on one game at a time. No longer doing multiple games at once.

    We allowed Day 1 DLC on Disks during the 7th Gen - We allowed Online Passes during the 7th & 8th Gen - We allowed lootboxes in our games, and gambling to persist - We allowed the cost of games to increase when quality has significantly dropped - We allowed half-assed games be published in broken states, and expected to pay for fixes - We allowed studios to become lazy, relying on "AI" to optimize - We allowed studios to preach gender politics, target children, destroy intellectual IPs and gaslight fans - Your stance is bullshit, and we should read into it, and when the studio shutdowns? We know the reason why, they developed a garbage game nobody wanted.

    Mark Darrah who was involved with Dragon Age since the beginning (not with Veilguard but with the previous iteration of Dreadwolf) did make a video saying EA made BioWare basically a studio that is now focusing on only one game at a time. So maybe that also played a part of it since more Game Directors won’t be needed.

  • @RenegadeVash
    @RenegadeVash 19 днів тому +4

    Luke you are being way to favorable towards Veilguard. The sales figure were a fraction of what they need to be. The target sales were 10 million and current projections put LIFETIME sales at only 3 mill. They were expecting for it to sell well.
    Rough budget estimates based on time and dev team size puts budget at 150-200 million easily. They needed over 4 million in sales to BREAK EVEN based on platform cuts at 70$ and that doesn't even cover marketing.
    Quality wise the game is a terrible dragon age game, as a generic fantasy game it is mid at best. Which makes director departure a completely different scenario from Witcher 3.
    This is almost X the justice league levels of terrible ideas. You shouldn't softball these people destroying the industry. Even fair criticism of Veilguard paints it at a complete train wreak.

    It's actually refreshing to see Luke offer an actual realistic and level head take on it. Clearly some folks in the comments could learn a thing or two.
    Much like how one of Bioware's Writers left after Veilguard was released, and you had so many folk pointing and cheering like this was some sign that Veilguard was awful afterall, and the people who made it were trying to run away from the company as fast as they could. Then after it was pointed out that the exact same thing happened with BG3, with the writer for one of the biggest characters in the game, Astarian, also leaving after BG3 launched, and suddenly all those people making fun of Veilguard went awful quiet right after.
    It's almost like the hate group of modern gaming is only interested in building their own narrative since before the game even released, as opposed to just looking at actual reality.

    • @TheFuriousMulatto
      @TheFuriousMulatto 19 днів тому +1

      It was. They had projected the game would move 10M units and it only sold 1.5M. And assuming a budget of $250M, the game would need to sell at least 6M units to break even(and would need to beat Dragon Age Inquisition's record of 12M units if they wanted to turn a tidy profit). By all accounts, the game is a massive flop.

      @@davidtreece3922 This game we can very likey assume its PC has the biggest player base, just as the previous games. And Steam will have the biggest group of players, and this base didnt break 90k current players(sunday at launch weekend). And dropped each weekend(about 10k players), after release, no late surge happened. And only stayed #1 on Top Steam sellers, for barely a week. And this is without taking into acount who ask for refund.
      If we look at the game In game achievement, 10% didnt progress further than chapter 1, 30% didnt go beyond chapter 4, 50% barely passed chapter 7, and only 30% achieved chapter 12. And when only 6% finished the game, even now. As we can certainly can say that most players should have been able to finish the game. They have not. FYI, remember this is of all players that bought the game, and it %.
      So all of this are strong indications that firstly players didnt finish the game. So likely no hype, word of mouth, and people asking for refund And this game is reported to be easy, compared to previous DA games. Technically a solid game experience, a solid combat system, thou shallow compared to previous titles. All in all, its far from Elder Ring, where many players will just not have the skill to progress, or peristence.
      And if you listened on the leaks, from within the company, their last report was about 1.5M sold on all platforms, 2w after launch. And this makes sense, with Steam providing the biggest player base, then Console and lastly EA launcher.
      If this was a success like Inquisition, that sold 1.1M within the first week, a very achievable number considering, todays bigger market, on more Systems and platforms. BioWare or EA didnt report any numbers this time, if it achieved such milestones within the same timeframe.
      I guess we find out, if someone care to look more into this, when EA release its shareholder update, or annualy. Anyway, EA will never disclose the exact numbers, as this will affect its stock value, and later titles.
