Tenho uma igual meu xodó de aventuras
If you were going to pick between a Joker Nomad 6.5 and a Casstrom Swedish forest knife No. 10, which would you choose? Kind of a silly question, I suppose, but I would value your opinion.
“It has to be full tang!” Bullshit Rat tails have been used by indiginous peoples and militaries for for thousands of years. The push for full tang is a damn marketing / sales pitch
🇵🇱✊🏻
I have one, they're designed to be used as a liner for a windproof smock or parka. Used as an outer layer, they're not windproof at all, hence not that warm.
Nice review ,problem is you can’t actually buy this cos the guy ignores all messages
It does look like a pretty hatchet.. and handmade is all good !! 💪 ..by the time you have weaved your magic on it.. well it will be superb !!
Yeah !.. that looks like a superb bit of kit.. 10% off is a great deal !.. shame that it doesn't quite reach the expectations ! ..yeah with you on the politics.. I support Ukraine too ..nuff said !! I think the hatchet was a 'little gnasher' on that stump.. even blunt ~!! Great review as always Tim bro ! Blessings to you and the Unni beastie ! 🐾🐾
The stove is cool But the music is better 🎉🎉🎉 Love me some Ted
Can't beat it can you. I think I chose a good song. Thanks for watching mate.
I got the 1/0 model just recently and it's a great EDC to have in a pocket in case you need to open a package or cut a stick to reach some chestnuts high on a tree. I don't like folders because they failed me too many times and most of the fixed blades are just too bulky to carry around comfortably.
Very good choice for an EDC, compact light and they cut very well, also so comfortable in the hand. I like Moras. Thanks for watching the video.
I have some sort of a similar looking axe (Robens) that had a hidden saw like thing (useless) inside the handle. Used the axe and it had insane handle vibration on every impact. I assume, that it was because the handle was hollowed out from the inside to acommodate the saw and its handle. Does the x13 also have some kind of weird insane handle bounce or vibration when using it?
I think these fiskars fibre comp handles absorb shock really well. I guess maybe they use a better more well thought out material than your Robens axe.The handle is also hollow though. Thanks for watching mate.
Thanks for the analysis! Could you help me with something unrelated: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
Thank you for watching the video. I am afraid I can't help you with your question. I don't really understand what you are saying to be honest. You would be better to ask someone more clued up on these things.
I bought a carving axe that has a straight edge, zero curve to it. Sort of puts me in mind of the Wharncliffe vs Puukko for whittling... each can excel at different aspects of carving.
We will see how it compares when I have worked on the edge a little more. I can still get it a lot better. But finding the time at the moment is quite difficult. Lots of tourists in Lapland at the moment. Being Santa's home and all. Thanks for stopping by Erik.
@KuukkeliBushcraft Aye, I gather it is a busy time of year for you over there. Also regarding the refinishing, I realized when I saw your new edge and heard you say it could still use some work, that I have the same repeat experience: regrind, resharpen, hone and polish - and then say, ah, needs more. One might think that time was wasted on the sharpening and honing before enough material was finally removed: but come a point you don't get to see very well what still needs doing, without putting a finish on. I suppose that the finest pro makers are able to grind to the right proportions first time around through repetition. The right amount both before and after heat treatment. I gather there's an old Sheffield saying, "forge them thick and grind them thin". Looks like Beavercraft got the first part right at least. It would have been easier to remove a lot of the excess prior to heat treatment but you'll get there eventually and perhaps the steel will be better for having been forged and heat treated thick :D
Nice axe but I have the impression that the blade is too thick and impractical. I bought an axe truper steel 1095 very practical. Good video greetings tim.👍
The blade is thin enough except for just behind the cutting edge. It needs a higher grind. I am half way there at the moment. Just hard to find time to do anything at the moment. Busiest time of the year here in Lapland right now. Thanks for watching mate.
You’re right, that’s a real head turner, thanks for the honest review. I see what you mean by the flair being a little too far from the cutting edge to be a great splitter, especially since it has that large, rounded edge…on that thought, I don’t remember if I told you that I took a deep breath and the better part of a long morning and removed a fair amount of cheek from a second, pre-owned ROSELLI axe I have… what a game changer! Carves, chops and splits like a beast now. I wonder if moving the edge back on the Beavercraft would similarly yield some better performance. Lot of work, though, that would be! Happy to see you’re building a decent snow base there now. Maggie misses not seeing Unni in this video!
I didn't realise that Unni wasn't in the video 🤣 she was there during the filming. Tell Maggie sorry. I should probably do the same to my Roselli axe. As for the Bevercraft bringing the cutting edge back would mean removing far too much metal. It's going to be mostly just a carving axe I think and never a really good splitter. Thanks for the sassafras and stickers you left me. Awesome gifts. Hope you had a great time in Finland.
I purchased 2 Ax1s and 1 Ax3. The quality control on all three were poor. All three leather masks and scabbards were made out of very low quality leather, to the point of not being safe. I even returned one of my Ax1s. The grinds {very dull} on them were not very good what so ever, again lacked quality control. I will be spending a good deal of time regrinding the two that I kept. I will also be making new leather masks and scabbard for them out of 9oz premium veg tan leather. My Ax3 was not sharp but at lease it did have a true convex grind, I can work with that. The Ax1 is going to be a task in getting the grind to a good usable convex. It's to bad because I wanted to like them, I do like the looks, just not the finished product. I do have two videos that I put out just recently on these axes. With work they will be great, but not for the price that I paid for them. My Ax3 was better than the two Ax1s.
They really are quite surprisingly expensive, especially if the finished product is normally like ours. Will check your videos out when I have time. Right now it's late and I have an early start tomorrow. I was kind of hoping that other people were having a better experience of these axes. From the comments I would guess that that isn't the case. Thanks for watching Dan.
What's obsession everyone has with batonning? Has no one heard of a hatchet? Use the right tool for the job.
Thanks Tim, great review, and I'd say an excellent evaluation! 🙂 Stay safe, stay warn... well the best you can. 😁
Thank you, i am so glad you enjoyed the video. It's actually not so cold at the moment. A real mild start to the winter.
I feel where these little axes excel is pairing them up with twig stoves. They are also good for some carving like you said. Thanks for an honest review and i like to buy from Countries i support.
Worked great with the fatwood for the twig stove. A little too small for any real firewood prep. I think it will be really useful. I still haven't got that cutting edge to where it should be. Very short of time and daylight at the moment. Thanks for watching Troy
Love the shape. scandi grind may work better if its sole purpose is carving. It's a great video, I will get one next year .God bless you and your family. Lee 🙏 🙏 🙏
Thanks Lee, glad you liked the video mate. I intend to get that bevel to being pretty close to a scandi. Only slightly convex as opposed to round wich it nearly was when it arrived 😂. God bless you and yours mate and thanks for watching.
What a ripper!
Thanks for watching.
Nice review. Where was Unni? Hopefully she is well. Cheers!
She is fine, she is there somewhere during most of the filming. She is working a lot at the moment. She hasn't been working with the best partners today. Had to change her partner in lead because he was too interested in what was going on behind him. The second one was kind of the same only nowhere near strong enough to stop Unni going forward. She really is a phenomenal sled dog. I just sometimes worry about her pushing herself too hard. Thanks for watching mate.
Glad to hear she's doing well. @KuukkeliBushcraft
Good honest look-see, Tim. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I like the idea of a carving axe, but I think maybe I'll wait a bit...
I do think there are better options on the market from a practical perspective at least. If you want to look cool though, this would be a very good option. Thanks for watching Jeff
Good review Tim , thanks for sharing, YAH Bless brother !
Cheers Michael, God bless and thanks for watching.
Good looking axe and review, thanks for sharing, YAH Bless brother !
A bit too expensive for my liking, I've just got a Swedish army axe brand new for half the price. I'll keep politics from your comments out of respect for your great channel, but I do feel like people blow smoke up the arse of anything made in Ukraine good or bad, nice to hear an honest review, I'm sure beaver craft will appreciate that. I bought many wood working tools from this store about 6-7 years ago and they are still going strong, I'm sure you're constructive criticism will go a long way to improve their tools.😁👍🏻
I should have mentioned their other tools that I have are all great. Really affordable, totally practical. This seems to be built more to look cool than be a effective low price tool. Pretty much the opposite of all of their other stuff. I still don't have the edge how I would like it. I am sure it will be a good little spoon carver once I have. Thanks for watching mate.
@KuukkeliBushcraft yeah like I say the wood carving tools I have are brilliant, cheap as well, unlike there axes 😁👍🏻. Good honest review
Muy buena el hacha Tim y el cabo esta buenísimo 🤠🤜🏻🤛🏻
Gracias Alvero, es Una hacha bonita. Viene mal afilado pero eso se puede areglar. Un abrazo
Birch bark makes beautiful, grippy, warm durable handles on stick tang blades. The sheath of double woven birch bark strips is also beautiful & durable. Especially safe with traditional wooden liner for the blade. The ones I have made I have woven a stip of leather down the back of the sheath for the belt loop, for a more secure attachment to my belt. I met a nice man in the USA State of Minnesota that taught me how to weave birch bark. He learned the art from Finnish immigrants descendants. Nice work on this one, never saw one that carried two knives. A great hobby if you live in an area that loggers are harvesting birch trees. Makes taking bark guilt free because the trees will be soon cut down. Loggers are good about allowing me to take bark.
The leather belt hanger is definitely a great idea. Far more secure than a strip of bark. I wish I could get hold of more bark here. The thing is that our birch trees are quite small this far north. Thanks for watching.
Traditional, holds the puukko like a finger trap. Good stuff, Grizz
Thanks Grizz, it really holds the knife very securely. I somehow doubt that the belt loop holds the sheath very securely. It is still really cool though.
A true craft 😊
Nice isn't it, would love to try and make one like this one day.
Great sheath may need a wax .I've seen birch bark sheaths, made a few too, but not as intricate as that one .great find brother, God bless you and your family. Lee 🙏
My birch bark sheaths are super simple and to be honest a bit messy. I would love to make one like this one day. Thanks for watching mate. God bless
That is sweeeeeet!!! 😊
Cheers Jeff, it's really cool. Maybe the belt loop isn't so practical. Still a fantastic little sheath.
Nice work!!!!
Moltes gracias amic.
What shop was it? Do they gave one down south ? I would love to have a sheeth like this. I have made some basic fokded blade covers using birch bark but nothing like this.
The shop is called Jatajajaloste, it's a very old fashioned place run by an old bloke. No website all kinds of cool things in there if you have a rummage round. It does look like most of the stock in there has been on display since 1967. If you want one probably the best bet is contact me in the new year and I will see if I can get one to you. After Christmas because right now I am incredibly busy. You can find an email address in the bio of my channel.
@KuukkeliBushcraft Wow thanks man, that sounds like my kind of shop 😁. I just checked it on the map that is very much the last point in Finland north 😅
Have fun
Thank you my friend.
Awesome skills to make that sheath. Nice😊
I wish I had those skills 😂. Something I would like to get more into, working with birch bark.
Tonight Tonight, clasic SP.Looks like you are bringing the old axe to life.
It's a good axe, and I am really happy with how it has turned out. Thanks for watching mate.
I’ve made several knife sheaths out of sand bar willow bark mine aren’t quite as intricate as the one you have I use them as a neck sheath
I have a much more basic way of making birch bark sheaths. Not so pretty but it works. Would love to try to copy this one, one day. Thanks for watching mate.
That is a beautiful lightweight sheath. You could probably fit a little folder in the secondary pocket, as an alternative.
The folder is a great idea Erik. I have one that would fit very nicely in there.
@KuukkeliBushcraft sort of like those twin sheath knives, I have seen Germanic hunting combos as well as a Leuku and Puukko combo at that summer festival. Imperial made a combo that was fixed blade and folder in one sheath.
@dongkhamet1351 it does seem like putting all of your eggs in one basket though. Lose one sheath and two knives gone. Other than that it's a great idea.
@KuukkeliBushcraft true, so one should always carry a secondary backup sheath with 3 or 4 knives in it ;D
That it very cool.
Thanks mate. I wish I could do things like that with birch bark.
