Hi and welcome to my channel!
I'm Amy and I give old furniture a second life.
Living in Belgium, I find these beautiful pieces from second hand shops, facebook marketplace or from family and friends. Each transformation brings me a sense of calmness and joy and I strive to convey that very feeling through my videos.
For now this channel is my little escape from the 9-5 but I dream to be able to do this full-time one day. By subscribing, liking, and commenting, you'll be taking me one step closer to living that dream.
I hope you enjoy watching my video's and that they bring you a sense of calm, just as they do for me.
Thanks for being a part of this journey.

I do agree the pieces you took out were some big chunks and maybe a bit much (even it still looked good). But in the end there are now two parts with nothing on it and looking like it's not finished. It's missing something... maybe even just some painting or writing on it (can imagine the year the cabinet got build in the upper middle free space and some light vines or something simple, but nice in the middle part.... maybe a recreating of the decoration above the windows, just drawn on?). :) Other than that I really do agree that the wood is absolutely precious on its own... and the windows are just everything <3 Lots of love from Germany :)
That would be a nice touch to add the year it was build! Sadly I don't know it tho.. I'm thinking of adding wooden ornaments with flowers or like you say vines in the middle part and on the sides. What do you think? And Hi neighbor! Hello from Belgium 🥰
@@2ndlife.furniture.restoration Oh, that sounds lovely :) Flowers or wooden ornaments would be amazing! Wooden ornaments are especially my favorite :D And maybe you can add the year of restoration to it. Not the same, but still something to remember :) Oh, and wow!!! :D Hi neighbor back! :D So cool! The world is a village, isn't it? ;) :) <3
@@LeeZetLMG Yes indeed the world is a small place sometimes! 😊 The year of the restoration could work! I’ve been thinking of having some kind of stamp made with my logo so I can add a stamp on the back of my furniture with something like “given a second life by..” or something like that! And then I could also always add the date!
@@2ndlife.furniture.restoration awww, that sounds really cool! Would love to see that happen. :) It shows that you appreciate the work of the first builder, but also love the furniture so much that you're giving it a second chance to shine :)
that's so pretty!!!! would love to see the full cabinet :)
Thaanks!! You can watch the full video here 🥰🥰 I hope you like it ua-cam.com/video/dXq_JquBZ80/v-deo.htmlsi=nQApgnLUi8xNdxXS
That is very beautiful you show very good character your passion is very unique
Thank you so much! 🥰 Did you watch the full video as well? It's linked in this video!
It is so sad that some people just don’t know how to be kind. I agree the scroll section looks unfinished. The centre panel also looks a different shade and as if something has been taken out. I would infill with a thin piece of wood right across the scroll section (losing the scroll) and if possible re-bead around this to match the centre piece edging. I would then paint in these areas and the bottom apron area highlighting one of the colours in the glass work. This would completely modernise the piece and show off the glass work more. Just my thoughts and I have done church glass and Tiffany and appreciate how beautiful it is. Well done you for taking the time to rescue this piece.
Thank you for your nice comment 🥰 Oee very interesting approach you would take! I love the idea of bringing the colors of the stained glass back on the rest of the piece, that would for sure bring it together more!
Today in "How to destroy perfecly fine furniture"
To each his own. I like it both ways , so whatever you want to do is totally up to you.😊
Thanks! ☺️ exactly my thoughts

So i genius!!! Love the little pillow at the end! 😍
Thank you 🥰🥰
Sorry ma'am, but that thing only needed a good cleaning and some fresh oil or wax. Is almost tragic that kind of change in a unique handmade original piece. Maybe you can remake the parts taken away an put them again.
Unfuronatly I wont be able to put back the pieces, but I might add some new ones that fit the style of the other wooden ornaments better! What do you think?
@@2ndlife.furniture.restoration it's a great idea. In both central parts only. It will look much better. Waiting to see. 😁
@@archaicamusement3871 great! I’ll post some pictures once it’s done ☺️

This miniature couch is beautiful You did a great job crafting it. Thanks for this video. I may try to make this couch.
Omg thank you that's so nice! ☺Please let me know if you make it! Also feel free to let me know if there is anything in this dollhouse make over series you would like to see next!
You are so talented! I could never make this. Great vid! x
Oh thank you that's so nice! I'm sure you could though, don't underestimate yourself!!!
Не поняла прикола! Вроде нормальный шкаф был. Зачем ломать?
It didn't fit with the style of my other furniture, check the full video for more context!
It's sad to see that a woman is shamed for doing manual labor because "she belongs in the kitchen or should go put on make-up". It's 2024, do better!
I think it got a bit washed out
Perfect! That's the look I was going for.
How fricking amazing!! Can’t imagine how much time you’ve spent on this 😅 really really cool! 🙏
Thank you 🙏🙏
Wow
Could you make this in full size for my living room please?😍
Hahaha also from carboard? 😂😂
You’re so creative! Loved every second. The cutest sofa and pillow I’ve ever seen 😍
Thank yoooou ❤️❤️😘
I plan to make a whole series of this dollhouse restoration/make-over. So let me know what else you would like to see in the living room? And what room should I do next? 🤩
Maybe a miniature version of your farmhouse table make over? 🤩
@@annevanderelst247 Oee yes that would be a good idea!
Oee I love it! Can't wait for the next one, maybe you can do a fireplace in the living room?
A fireplace is a great idea 🤩 Brick or modern style with glass?
Hmm not sure, I can see both! I'm sure you'll make it work either way 🤩@@2ndlife.furniture.restoration
Aw thanks! :)
Зачем вы удалили декор? Зачем оголили дерево? Не поняла☹️
I wanted to make the stained glass doors shine! I think the rest was distracting from the beauty of the glass.
Soooo cool!!! I'm going to try this myself :)))
Aah that's great!! Let me know how it goes
I think you did a fine job. Ignore the haters.
Thank you :) that's really kind of you!!

I don't know why the original craftsman didn't go all the way across the top with the scrollwork. It did look too busy with the start/stop/start/stop. Now it's just there for no reason and looks unfinished? This is a strange piece. The doors are beautiful, though.
Yes I thought the same, I would have liked to see the scrollwork throughout the whole piece or at least kept everything in the same style? Indeed strange piece with a lot of character coming from the lovely doors.
Very nice! You've got skills!!
Thank you so much 😀
Wauw amazing job!!!!!
Thanks!!!
You destroyed a hand crafted piece of cabinetry because...???
Because... it was basicaly being neglected.. left outside in the rain. I made it so it will now have it's second life on my home! And I will love looking at it every day!!
Seriously?! This was handmade by a local carpenter - someone from your community that took care and pride in their craft. This little cabinet would have been a local antique one day (if it not already was one). The original elements are now destroyed. You significantly lowered its value (not just monetary) -- and it no longer is original.
It depends on how you determine it’s value. I bought it from people who we’re leaving it outside in the rain and didn’t want it anymore, so they got rid of it for a low price, they did not see it’s value. But I loved this little cabinet so much, specially respecting it’s handmade local craft aspect. I will keep this piece for my home and look at it everyday with joy ☺️ I think thàt is very valuable and I think the original carpenter would be happy that it can be loved in somebody’s home again instead of left outside in the rain, even with small alterations 🙏🏻
I think you did good work, but I honestly think the piece looked better before. The ornamental pieces belong to that style of furniture. You simplified it, making it a "plain" style. You should have left it alone. Some pieces just look better as is. This piece was one of them.
Thanks! And that’s ok, I’m keeping this piece for myself and changed it so that it fits with my interior more, but I wouldn’t call it plain by any means! Those stained glass doors are the star of the show
I think the places you took the wood blocks off need a little something, especially in the center between the vines. Perhaps you could do a leaded glass motif similar to what is in the doors. Could be fun to learn, if you don’t do that already. For detail work such as in and around the vines, a Dremel or a brush with furniture stripper might be a better bet than the sander. I think the sander ended up flattening out some of the carvings where it didn’t fit in between the details.
That would be great to learn to make leaded glass! Maybe a project for the future! I did try stripper and a dremel but that didn’t work. Do you think I should have included that in the video?
Creo que se veia mejor antes
Let me know what you would have done differently!
Unfortunately now it looks obviously like there are considerable sized features missing. I think getting rid of the inexpertly made rectangular decorative border instead would have made more sense. It just looks amateur and doesn't go with the plain elegance of the piece.
Hmm I see your point, and why would you say the rectangular piece is inexpertly made?
@@2ndlife.furniture.restoration It looks to me that it was a stamped in, shallow design rather than carved. To me, it looked like that mass produced stuff you buy by the linear foot at the DIY store, glued on.
Complètement débile aucun intérêt nul next
watch the full video for more tho! See if you like that
After so much care about the windows at the begining, would be a huge pain if it would be cracked or broke at the end, when the cleaning was made.
Yess haha I was sooo scared and paranoid the whole time 🥲 luckily it didn't break
One of the better restoration video’s i’ve seen so far. Curious to see what else you’ll end up refurbishing in the future. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! ☺️ How nice to hear! Definatly more things to come so stay tuned!
Που δεν μπορει να παρη ευθυνη αλλα μπορει να κανη καλα την δουλιεα
I Like the new color better and the deletion of the center strip of wood but the little piece across the top that you took out left it looking a bit odd. the decorative carving now has a blank spot where the circle pieces stop which makes it obvious something used to be there. I’m not creative enough to think how that could be fixed. Overall I appreciate what you did to this piece and it looks fantastic.
Hi thanks for your comment! I agree with what you say, I might add some decorative wood ornaments to fill up the space. Should I post pictures after so you can see the difference?
Should have left it alone.😢
Sorry to hear your dissapointed!
It looks like theres pieces missing. The visual balance of detail is off. 🤔😮
I might add some wood ornaments to fill the space, would you like to see some pictures of it after then?
Still ugly... BTW This is not a restoration.
To jest demolka a nie odnowa 🙈
What should I have done differently? Let me know!
I was skeptical about removing the decorative buts but it really lets the beautiful scrollwork and stained glass shine.
I was hesitant at first as well! But it turned out great I think ☺️☺️
Beautiful glass windows ❤ a new cabinet after your make-over, made ready for new adventures. What a statement piece! Love it!
Thank you so much that’s so nice ☺️
I actually like the natural wood colour more than that old fashioned yellowish 70s stain. I’m not sure how I feel about the pieces of wood you took out. I wasn’t a big fan of it tbh, but it kinda looks empty now? Maybe you can look for some additional ornamental pieces of wood 🤔? PS: so glad you left the stained glass, I was so scared 😅
Yes true, I might add a new wood ornament in the middle to fill that space!
It's beautiful! 💚🩷I just spotted spider on the inside of the roof 😅
Hihi yes!! Well spotted 😝 It scared me the first time I saw it 😂😂
It was very nice before, it's rubbish now only fit for the skip.
Hi! Just curious, what would you have done differently?
Только все испортили
What would you have done instead?
