I guess I'm that one who wasn't thrilled with the turn out. Its not that the design was dated, but I think the design was too '70s. You did a lot of hard work prepping, nice... Sorry to be that one downer. I so applaud the efforts to revive pieces of history, and those who undertake those tasks. Keep on doing what you do.
Hi, thanks so much for your comment! 😊 Everyone has their own tastes, so no worries at all, it’s what makes each piece unique! If we all had the same style, every home would look identical, and where’s the fun in that? 😅 I hadn’t intentionally aimed for a ’70s vibe, but now that you mention it, I can definitely see those lines. I really just let the buffet cabinet guide the design, maybe this is what it wanted to look like! I’m glad to hear you appreciate the effort to revive these pieces. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!
Me too. Lead test the paint Amy needs to add Oxalic Acid generously to the entire surface. Let it dry. Then rinse of and dry again. Not apply a patch, immediately scrub it off. Amy needs to use a container for her hardware. The rust and metal filings will stain her enamel sink and block the drain.
At first I read that wrong, I thought you wrote “conversation” and actually both could work 😄 it’s already getting late here in Belgium, my eyes are getting tired 😂 But yes true, conservation is appropriate too!
Wow! very beautiful. This piece reminds me of 1965 when my parents built their new home in Sydney, Australia. They had emigrated from England with two children in 1963, one me aged 6. Cupboards were the same but i remember the hardware was shaped like styalized boomerangs . My then boyfriend and i repainted it in 1973 to modernise... deep purple LOL
Hi from the other side of the world! 😄👋 Thank you so much for sharing that beautiful memory! It’s amazing to think about the journey of these pieces and how they’ve been part of so many lives and stories. That boomerang hardware sounds fantastic-and a deep purple makeover in the 70s? Love it! I can imagine it must have looked so groovy back then! 😊 It’s always special to hear about how these pieces bring back memories. Thank you for watching and taking me down memory lane!
Ok so not my specific style but your creativity made me subscribe!! I am VERY IMPRESSED with your abilities! I am excited to see what you will do next!
Thank you so much-that really means a lot to me! 😊 I’m genuinely grateful that you took a chance on my channel, even if it’s not your usual style. Thanks for subscribing and for your kind words-they truly made my day!
The brush for the gold leaf? Thank you! 😊 I’m so glad you enjoyed the sound of the brush-there’s definitely something calming about it, isn’t there? ❤ It’s one of my favorite parts of the process too!
Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 I’m so glad you appreciated the restoration and the gold leaf details. It was definitely a nod to its original charm while adding a fresh touch. Your support means a lot!
I have a similar kitchen piece from my grandparents that I use in the garage for storage. These pieces were "factory" painted so the plywood was never meant to be exposed. The plywood is pretty low grade with all the knots etc. So maybe a new veneer could be an option but is pretty expensive for a junk piece and not that easy with the rounded corners. It turned out okay but I like the video more than the end result. If you have the option you should look into better sandpaper like the 3m cubriton line. It speeds sanding up so much that you never want to go back to the diy store stuff. Groetjes.
I agree. The telltale signs of this are the knot holes in the face fronts, no real design aesthetic and cheap quality of wood. It was meant to be painted for utility. Nice job.
Nice work turning a utilitarian piece into a statement! I would ha e never thought of using different stains to tie the defects together. Very creative. May I offer a suggestion? That mold has penetrated the plywood. It may appear dead on the surface but will resurface with time and humidity. If the bottom can't be rep!aced, seal both surfaces with shellac then paint the three cabinet bottoms so they match.
Thank you so much for the kind words and thoughtful feedback! 😊 I’m really glad you noticed the creative approach with the stains, it was a fun challenge to turn the flaws into features. I truly appreciate your suggestion about the mold and sealing with shellac! I’ll definitely keep that in mind for future projects. Thanks for sharing your expertise!
I do love it when the restorer adds stripes of color! (Just a personal thing I appreciate). Wondering why you didn’t replace the board with the mold? Would it have been difficult to do that?
Thank you so much! 😊 I’m so glad you love the stripes of color! As for the board with the mold, replacing it would have meant removing the whole underside of the buffet and taking it completely apart... Sometimes it’s a balance between restoration and replacement, but I really appreciate the question and your curiosity!
I would can call this a creative restoration! haha I know that wasn't one of the options but you restored it and then used a lot of creativity to make it better! I really like it, well done!
Interesting finish and a lot of hard work removing the paint. I liked the finish, but not so much the gold leaf…it clashed with the silver colored hardware. I subscribed!
Thank you so much for your honest feedback and for subscribing! 😊 I totally understand-finding the right balance with finishes and hardware can be tricky, and I love hearing different perspectives. It means a lot that you appreciated the hard work that went into it. I’m excited to have you here and look forward to sharing more projects with you!
Thank you 🥹 Not going to lie, my patience was tested on this project 😂 but I’ve been drawing and painting since I was a kid, so I guess that’s where the patience comes from ☺️
You certainly did an excellent job on all the prep work. Well done. To me, it now looks reminiscent of Art Deco style, while at the same time, the design does remind me of my long ago teenage days, of the early 80's. At this moment in time, I'm actually unsure if I like it, however, what is important is that you are happy with it, because it's your work, and it's obvious that you gave it much thought. Looking forward to seeing what else you do.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It’s true that you can’t really put a style or date on the design I guess cause it just came out of my head 😅 and yes I’m happy that it’s getting a new life!
Very creative! Turned out amazing! I think I would have stained the bottom insides with an ebony color to camouflage the mold discoloration. And I think I will use your gold leaf idea on a cabinet door in my small bath, but I will use a crane stencil. Really enjoyed watching you work.
Thank you! I did think about staining it darker, but I thought that would have been to different in color, but might have looked good still! Ooh yes a crane stencil sounds like a great idea! Curious to see how that works out!
Thank you! 😊 I didn’t check this piece for lead paint, but I always take precautions when sanding or stripping older furniture, like using protective gear and working in a well-ventilated area. It’s definitely something to keep in mind for future projects-thanks for the reminder!
I see this as a piece of functional art work. In the right setting it will look great. It is not traditional but it carries its age well. You did a great job!
Thank you so much! 😊 I love that you see it as functional artwork, that’s exactly the balance I aim for! It’s definitely a bit unconventional, but I agree that in the right setting, it can really shine. Thanks for the kind words!
Great job. Looks good. Just to let you know, that type of furniture was meant to be painted due to all the patches and imperfections in the wood. A stained piece would be made from all the same type wood with no knots or blemishes. It's hard to tell what type of wood is under all the paint until you remove it. Again, great job.
Great job, You instilled new life and beauty in a piece of furniture that would probably gone to the trash dump.. In our culture "'U.S.", we have become a throw away society. I remember in high school taking the tubes from my Grandmother's TV and radio down to the local Thrifty's drug store in Glendale California, to test them and buying replacement tubes for he tubes that were bad, to install later in her TV and Radio.
I think it’s not only the U.S. that has become a throw away society! It’s a shame to know we used to replace parts, now you would buy a whole new tv.. thanks for sharing your story! ☺️
Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words! 😊 I’m thrilled you found it impressive and creative, that truly means a lot to me. Your support keeps me inspired to keep creating!
I think creative re-interpretation, particularly liked the different shades of stain, a very unusual piece of furniture, i look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Thank you so much! 😊 I’m glad you enjoyed the artistic approach, it’s always fun to try something a bit different. I appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts!
Wow, thank you! 😊 Greetings all the way to South Carolina from Belgium! I'm happy you enjoyed the video, and it means a lot to have you as a new subscriber. Excited to share more projects with you-thanks for being here!
Okay. First. Nice Job getting All that paint "Skin" off. Very Satisfying! Your Prep work is Excellent! I also liked the Kintsugi You did. But the gold leaf didn't work for Me. The piece Really begged to be painted. The old photo showed it painted. It's Very Utilitarian. You could burn the wood like Shou Sugi to highlight the grain and give it some depth. McCluskey Restorations has done a couple pieces that I liked. She has a nice touch. I love watching People from Other Countries restore stuff!
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback, I really appreciate it! 😊 I’m glad you enjoyed the paint removal and prep work. I can see where you’re coming from with the gold leaf, it’s always a bit of a creative risk, but I love hearing different perspectives. Burning the wood for that Shou Sugi Ban effect sounds like an amazing idea! I’ll definitely check out McCluskey Restorations, thanks for the recommendation. It’s wonderful to connect with restoration fans from all over the world!
New subscriber! This is definitely a restoration, and a great labor of love. I would recommend getting a wire wheel instead of soaking hardware and risking staining that beautiful sink with rust! :o) Keep up the good work!
Welcome to the channel! Happy to have you here! That's a great tip! I do need to find a better way to clean my hardware then my kitchen sink... Thanks for the tip :)
The only other thing that you could have done was to cover the whole thing in veneer, but I don't know that would have come out better than what you did. I think that it turned out great, congratulations !! 👍👍👍👍
Your method of fixing the problems worked well. It's not easy to do stripes even with tape. You've picked up a resonance of art deco to go with the modern style. If it makes you feel better about covering up some of the wood, the piece was likely never intended to be unpainted. It was made of "inferior" wood--the knots & that eye shaped repair are not a problem for the maker because it would be painted. That light bluish/greyish color appears to be an original paint color. The pulls look good but are also unlikely to be original. The length of the bolts is off, and there is an extra filled hole on drawers. The drawers likely had big ball shaped knobs & doors would have had bigger shapes. However, the hardware looks good with shape of piece & your update.
Yes, I figured that they made it to be painted, but painting this would have felt like cleaning my whole house and then walking though it with muddy shoes 😂 you know what I mean? And indeed I saw that too that the handles probably were not the original ones anymore! Curious to know what this cabinet has gone theough, if only furniture could talk!
Pfew yes that was a lot of work! Well, I don’t have any good experiences with sand blasting, either the machines are crazy expensive or they are cheap but perform very poorly.. do you have any experience with it? And any good recommendations for a sandblaster?
Haha, I totally get it! 😊 I had the same thought while cleaning up the hardware! Your 1940's sink sounds amazing; there's nothing like those vintage pieces with real character. Thanks for watching!
I think it would’ve been ok to just sand this very smooth and do the repairs then repaint in a vintage enamel color. These pieces were not meant to be stained so a genuine restoration actually would be painted. But i understand your reticence to paint and think your solution fine.
I totally understand where you're coming from, painting it in a classic enamel color would have kept it true to its original style. I did hesitate to paint over the wood, especially when I see potential in its natural grain, but I appreciate your perspective on a genuine restoration approach. I’m glad you think the solution still worked!
Wow! It looks three-dimensional. This is the first time I've watched your videos. I noticed you are very patient and persistent. You also have pretty hands.
Thank you so much for noticing all the little details! 😊 I’m thrilled you enjoyed the 3D effect! And thank you for the kind words about my hands! I'm so glad you found my channel and hope you’ll enjoy more projects to come!
I don't mind the design overal.. you did the best you could with the condition of the wood. But why wouldn't you paint the bottom of the cabinet inside. Also, why not paint the handles instead of silver on gold. Strange color choices.
When you remove doors with long hinges and lots of screws, its easier to handle the door if you start at the bottom and work your way up. Gravity will be in your favor this way.
Aah you are the first one to notice! I was waiting for somebody to comment on that as it is unusual. I started using painters tape but I couldn't see if my stain was bleeding underneath the tape or not. And with the clear packing tape I had more control to keep the lines scrip. But probably that's just my personal preference!
So would you call this a restoration or creative re-interpretation? Let me know!
very creative re-interpretation
@@2ndlife.furniture.restoration a beautifully creative reinterpretation. Well done.
Furniture flipping. You're not restoring it to what it was
More Patience than I would ever have … very cool idea
Thanks :)

Holy smokes….this is actually a work of art. Love it.
Thanks! ☺ That's ver kind!
You could call this a "conservation" You are conserving its original beauty with your own touch.
At first I read that wrong, I thought you wrote “conversation” and actually both could work 😄 it’s already getting late here in Belgium, my eyes are getting tired 😂 But yes true, conservation is appropriate too!
Watching the paint bubble up is so satisfying 🤩
I know right 🤤

The furniture as was only fit for firewood After cleaned off and back to wood Beautiful The decor was very tasteful when finished
thank you very much 😊
Great job--it looks fantastic! Worth all the hard work that went into it!
Thank you that's very kind 😊 It was a lot of hard work indeed! But very rewarding!
Sound of brush is soo satisfying ❤❤
The brush for the gold leaf? Thank you! 😊 I’m so glad you enjoyed the sound of the brush-there’s definitely something calming about it, isn’t there? ❤ It’s one of my favorite parts of the process too!
Appreciate all the work you put into restoring the wood. Love the gold leaf and lines. A nod to what it looked like originally. Perfect.

I would can call this a creative restoration! haha I know that wasn't one of the options but you restored it and then used a lot of creativity to make it better! I really like it, well done!

Hello from Ireland 👋🏻☘️ I’ve never seen such a gorgeous rescue of a piece of furniture ~ it’s just fabulous!

creative re-interpretation. I love it. What's happening to it now?
Thanks!! Now it's going to live a long and happy life in a wonderful new home 😊
WOW!!!! This is EPIC!!! Thank you for your creativity and showing me a new way of looking at things!
Thank yoou!!! 🤩🤩
This is wicked creative! Fantastic job! You must have the patience of a saint.

Amazing job! That looked like a huge effort but the result is definitely worth it! 👌
It was!! Thank you 😊
Amazing!! Beautiful interpretation of the whole thing.
Thanks ☺
Very well done. I like your "creative license" with the gold leaf. It made me smile.
Thank you so much! 😊 I’m glad the gold leaf brought a smile to your face! Thanks for watching!
I believe you re-created this piece into something totally different & beautiful. 😍
thank you so much 😍
Excellent job restoring this piece.
thank you :)
I see this as a piece of functional art work. In the right setting it will look great. It is not traditional but it carries its age well. You did a great job!

Totally amazing! Your hard work paid off. Love it.❤
Thank you 😊
Fantastic design. I love the painted lines and gold.
Thank you so much 😊
I love segmented drawers. So handy!
Me too! I wish I saw more of them in vintage furniture, it's such a rare find.
Great job. Looks good. Just to let you know, that type of furniture was meant to be painted due to all the patches and imperfections in the wood. Thanks! You’re right! Anyways we can only try to make it the best it van be 😊
nice job..beautiful but why you don't do anything in side of the furniture????
Thank you so much! 😊 I’m glad you liked it! Great question about the inside and what do you mean? I treated the inside with some oil!
Wow. I think the kinsugi idea is brilliant. And I love the gold!
Thanks! 😍
Absolutely stunning!!! Well done 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks you 🥰
Did you test for leaded paint?
No… but I really have to!! I just wasn’t expecting this, but I will buy a lead test for my next projects.
Great job, You instilled new life and beauty in a piece of furniture that would probably gone to the trash dump.. In our culture "'U.S.", we have become a throw away society. Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words! 😊 I’m thrilled you found it impressive and creative, that truly means a lot to me. Your support keeps me inspired to keep creating!
Well done 👏🏼
Thanks ☺️
❤ your filming and your solution to cabinet flaws
Oooh thank you so much 🥰
I think creative re-interpretation, particularly liked the different shades of stain, a very unusual piece of furniture, i look forward to seeing more of your videos.
thank you! :) Not sure if I should do this again on another piece? what do you think?
It looks great and you did a wonderful job restoring it as well!!!!
I enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thaanks 👍🏻
Very interesting approach and artistic, too.
Thank you so much! 😊 I’m glad you enjoyed the artistic approach, it’s always fun to try something a bit different. I appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts!
Geez! This is really cool! Greetings and new sub from South Carolina!
Wow, thank you! 😊 Greetings all the way to South Carolina from Belgium! I'm happy you enjoyed the video, and it means a lot to have you as a new subscriber. Excited to share more projects with you-thanks for being here!
I think you did a fantastic job. Keep it up!
Thanks you ☺️ I’ll do my best to keep it up!
Wow, wow and wow! Awesome job!
Thanks, thanks and thanks! 🤩
Okay.
Работа большая. Но, к сожалению, сусальное золото положено не очень аккуратно, что немного портит впечатление.
This is absolutely gorgeous. So creative. You just got a new subscriber.
Oooh that's amazing 😊 Happy to have you as a follower!
Beautiful ❤
Thank you!
So enjoyed the video thx
Thank you for watching ☺️
A wonderful transformation.
looks really good. Only, I would have painted the door handles black.
But that's just my opinion.😄
Ooh black! Interesting choice! I didn’t think of that, but I bet that would look very nice!
Pls do more asmr videos ❤
Thank you! ❤ I'm so glad you enjoyed the ASMR! I definitely plan to make more videos, I'm aiming to do 1 video each month! 🤗
What kind of paint stripper did you use?
I used the rust oleum stripper!
I LOVE the lines. The gold leaf not so much. But the lines are amazing!!!
Thanks! 😊 Yes the opinions are divided on the gold!
Hmmmm. Not sure if I'm a fan of it. Not my style, but definitely unique and makes a very nice statement. Nice use of color's. Well done!
Thank you ☺️
New subscriber!
Restorative Creative Artful Restoration…I hope you signed and dated the back somewhere …
No I didn't! But maybe I should start doing that! Great idea :)
The only other thing that you could have done was to cover the whole thing in veneer, but I don't know that would have come out better than what you did. I think that it turned out great, congratulations !! 👍👍👍👍
Ooh thank you so much 😊
the paint stripping is so satisfying!
I know right!!
Yes one of my favorite parts!
Congratulations! It's a new piece again!🌷🌷
Thanks ☺️
Your method of fixing the problems worked well. It's not easy to do stripes even with tape. You've picked up a resonance of art deco to go with the modern style. You r very artistic. This piece is beautiful. Linda Beals
Thanks you Linda! ☺️
I’m not a MCM fan but the design on this piece is stunning.
Thanks ☺️
Very nice result
Thank you!
I think you did a fantastic job 😊😊
Thank you so much ☺️
Schrecklich. Fürchterlich. So tolle Arbeit und dann dieses Design 😢
Ich war leider auch erschüttert .
Sehr bedauerlich .
.
So creative!
Thank you!
Very pretty.
Thank you 🥰
WOW!!!
🤩
Heel mooi artistiek, love, greetings from Brugge 😉
Dankjewel! 😊 Groetjes terug!
Just found your channel, boy that was a lot of paint. Could you have gently sandblasted or to hard on it 😊
Pfew yes that was a lot of work! Well, I don’t have any good experiences with sand blasting, either the machines are crazy expensive or they are cheap but perform very poorly.. do you have any experience with it? And any good recommendations for a sandblaster?
I'm sorry, but I only know what I've seen here: people doing stairs, door frames, etc.
Beautiful 😊
Thanks!
you;'re awful gutsy using that gorgeous sink to clean up that hardware. I baby my 1940's sink like no other. lol
Haha, I totally get it! 😊 I had the same thought while cleaning up the hardware! Your 1940's sink sounds amazing; there's nothing like those vintage pieces with real character. Thanks for watching!
Попробуйте пятна убирать щавеливой кислотой.
I think it would’ve been ok to just sand this very smooth and do the repairs then repaint in a vintage enamel color. These pieces were not meant to be stained so a genuine restoration actually would be painted. But i understand your reticence to paint and think your solution fine.

I think I'd of left the natural wood and just put a wax to protect it sorry didn't like the design
Hi no worries, everybody likes different things :) Thanks for watching!
When you remove doors with long hinges and lots of screws, its easier to handle the door if you start at the bottom and work your way up. Gravity will be in your favor this way.
Very true!
I have never seen anyone use packing tape versus painter's tape... interesting
Makes perfect sense TBH.
@ I know right! Maybe somebody should invent transparent painters tape 🤷🏼♀️
Gold looks tacky - I think a dark colored circle would work better!
Not sure. It’s kinda weird looking.
Thank you ☺️
Hi Did check for lead
No I didn’t… but I really should have! Don’t be like me, I will next time tho! Thanks for reminding me I need to buy a lead test!
Hi Amy like your video. But would be nice if u talked
Hi christine! I prefer watching videos myself where people don’t talk or at least not alot! So I guess it’s just a personal preference ☺️
Я бы вырезала рисунок в дереве, а абстракцию не люблю
