A Tour of Chatsworth House
This is the first of two videos about Chatsworth House and it’s incredible history. In this video we learn about the Cavendish family who have occupied the land since 1549. We hear how the house was built by successive members of the family and it’s close ties to royalty and British history. We see the vast collections of art, china, books and statues and hear of the trials and tribulations of the family through the generations. In the next vide we will uncover the history of the landscape and learn of its equally impressive historical significance.

I visited Chatsworth on October 18 and I agree that it is splendid--real power and money! The amount of art that the Cavendishes have amassed is rather overwhelming; the library is absolutely gorgeous, and the view of the Canal Pond is breathtaking. Lunch at the Cavendish restaurant in the stables was pleasant. I walked to the Farm Shop after my visit and got some Piccalilli and Damson jam. The walk back to Bakewell along Handley Lane was one of the most memorable parts of an overall spectacular experience--a beautiful autumn day with views of the countryside along a deserted country road. I don't agree that a good time to visit is for Christmas. I went to Castle Howard in 2022 and the decorations overwhelmed and overshadowed the splendor of the place. You couldn't see anything and the mannequins and fairytale themes were cheesy in a Disney sort of way.

Hi, thank you for the video. What a lovely work your daughter done already! I'm thinking about a change of career and going into landscape/garden design. I have studied a fashion design years back but I've always been interested in nature and ecology a lot too. I'm just sorry i haven't thought of doing this years ago. I'm now 46 and I'm feeling a bit funny about studying with possibly mostly more than 20 years younger people. I don't mind myself but I'm just worried that they will think they can't relate to me and see me as an (old) alien😅

A few years back our neighbours had peacocks & hens. They used to come iver the pasture zo us and sits in the trees and wander the terrace. Chickens are dumb - these critters are in another league. The mother would bring her offspring to us and sit on our gates. They make one heck of a mess & poop like ducks. During the day they'd wander and then the peacock would call and they'd all wander home to roost. We get them every so often still. But tend to get pheasants nowadays.

I intend to watch the Kiera Knightly one again to give it another try and also to look at Chatsworth, as I didn’t realise at the time that’s where it was filmed! Thanks for watching Jenny

Haha I have a dog like that. Eww! I've tried tupils in pots for several years. The first two years I kept in the garage, with no extra moisture, and they rotted, so the following year I tried them in urns on the front porch, only slightly covered by the overhang, and they rotted. This year, I'm trying them under the porch, so they will get no moisture except what I give them. We'll see how it goes. Funny enough, they grew fine in the ground with standing water (clay soil) most of the winter one year (but then the bunnies get them). Looking forward to seeing your results. Thanks for sharing!
