Fascinating. I hope they are paying you for this! I have been once. I loved the sculpture room and gardens in late summer. Magnificent grounds and house...better than Buckingham palace for sure.
@@sc3pt1c4L Thank you, glad you found it helpful. Sadly I am not getting paid but I found it all so fascinating! Like doing my homework but more enjoyable than when I was forced to do it at school! 🤣
After watching Pride and Prejudice (20 times) I instantly recognized the opening scene of your video (the terrace and grounds) lol. What an interesting history. Can’t wait for the gardens. Thank you.
@@Bandaid17 I’ve watched the Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth one about that number of times (came out when I was looking for my Mr Darcy when I was in early twenties!) Pemberley is Lyme Park in that one which although impressive perhaps isn’t as fabulous as Chatsworth! Rosings was Belton House in Lincolnshire which I know and love very well (in fact did a video on it!) I intend to watch the Kiera Knightly one again to give it another try and also to look at Chatsworth, as I didn’t realise at the time that’s where it was filmed! Thanks for watching Jenny
Thank you so much for putting this together! What an amazing place! To see it at Christmas would be a dream! The gardens must be amazing! Can't wait for your next video.
I love the 2005 Pride and Prejudice best. I think it’s very realistic the way people really behave instead of like watching a play and the scenes at Chatsworth are so romantic. Thanks for sharing its story with us.
@@amyjones2490 Oh that’s interesting, I think I will watch it again on your recommendation and now I know it’s at Chatsworth. The other one I watched in my late teens/early twenties so perhaps that’s why I loved it so much!
I visited Chatsworth on October 18 and I agree that it is splendid--real power and money! The amount of art that the Cavendishes have amassed is rather overwhelming; the library is absolutely gorgeous, and the view of the Canal Pond is breathtaking. Lunch at the Cavendish restaurant in the stables was pleasant. I walked to the Farm Shop after my visit and got some Piccalilli and Damson jam. The walk back to Bakewell along Handley Lane was one of the most memorable parts of an overall spectacular experience--a beautiful autumn day with views of the countryside along a deserted country road. I don't agree that a good time to visit is for Christmas. I went to Castle Howard in 2022 and the decorations overwhelmed and overshadowed the splendor of the place. You couldn't see anything and the mannequins and fairytale themes were cheesy in a Disney sort of way.
@@hori166 Your day at Chatsworth sounds very memorable especially love the idea of walking from and to Bakewell and glimpsing Chatsworth House in its beautiful setting- very Jane Austen! 🤣 I’ve never been at Christmas so I can’t comment but I’m told that it’s beautiful and all in the best possible taste!! However, there is so much to see anyway without any extra embellishments and the Christmas decs may detract from the all that’s there! Perhaps we need to go again at Christmas so we can compare!! Thank you for watching Jenny
Thank you so much for that marvelous summary of the history of this extraordinary place (especially for me, an American, you didn't know most of it)! I really enjoyed it!
Easily the best house to visit in the uk and the Christmas at Chatsworth is always brilliant. As for the gardens I think there has been some changes made since I last went but I really liked the veg garden.
Thank you for sharing. Very interesting history. As much as I love grand english gardens, I allways wonder how the got the incredible wealth in the first place and how they got their income in the earlier times. As a Norwegian, from a (almost) class less society, it is intriguing to me.
@@lenabrustad305 How funny, I’m just doing my ironing and was ironing a T-Shirt with Norway written on it when I read your message! (Husband has been and loved it) I think some of the Cavendish land and wealth came from Henry VIII as a thank you for William Cavendish’s loyalty. They also made a lot of their money through coal. Thanks for watching

Brilliant video. We visited this summer as well as rhs bridgewater. Looking forward to your next one. X
