I prefer the book, and the audiobook narrated by Wil Wheaton is even better, but this movie, even with all of it's compromises, is probably the best that could have been done short of a Peter Jackson three film extravaganza. (Which I would watch if they ever made it.)

I know this is a year old but I just discovered it. While I haven't had a chance to watch them yet (I plan to) I see that you've done this and Tribe Twelve, but do you have any plans to also do Everyman Hybrid? It's on par with Marble Hornets and better than Tribe Twelve in my opinion, and if you've gone this far into the other two it'd be interesting to see you complete the set, so to speak. Anyway, I look forward to going through this entirely when I have to time to give it. :)

It would be cool to see younger fans react to some of the behind the scenes documentaries on how they had to make the original special effects. Old school compositing and motion control techniques really hit their stride by the time of these movies, and the movies of this era show why cgi was considered inferior to practical effects until relatively recently.

The reason why Vader is way more intimidating and taking more action is because he realizes that Luke is his son. So his hunt for a rebel leader turns into a search for his son. In episode IV it was just business as usual.

Notice that in the scene on Dagobah in which Luke "fights Vader" it is Luke who draws his Lightsaber first. He attacks and Vader defends himself. Also realizing that it is his head underneath Vader's helmet already was a bit of foreshadowing the connection Luke and Vader have.

In the original trilogy, the progression of Luke clothing colors was quite deliberate, as in Martial Arts belt ranking--White desert wear, of an acsolute beginner, orange flight sight as some skills, but he still almost gets killed by a Hoth ice beast, then the brown overalls, meaning he has real skill and power, but against the black belt Vader (as like a 5th Dan), he's still totally outclassed. Only when Luke gets to the black garb in episode VI does he have chance...

I'm, sure there are "fanxperts" who know "down to the second" 🙄 what Lucas was thinking 🙄(or has said he invented, at a specific time, or whatever), and they would correct and mock me (if they ever happened to come across this comment, somehow!), BUT: I always had heard/known that: Star Wars [this film] was the initial story (and nothing else existed!). He may have had concepts for "a trilogy," (or something🤷) but It wasn't fully figured, yet - CERTAINLY NOT written!! ...and any "backstory" was just ideas he might have been tossing around. The writing of and, then, (of course) success of Star Wars created, not only, demand for more, but: the possibility for it. Just about everything came later and was NOT, nearly, fully formed (even if George had had story ideas or elements in his head, from earlier!). I always understood that: it was "some things" which, after the MASSIVE success of Star Wars, he decided: "...o.k. ...I should (and now can) expand this and 'complete' it."

The movie Westworld is, often, named as "the first, known, use" of what would later be shorthanded as "C.G.I." ...However, whenever someone brings this up, it should be explained, specifically, that: the use of "computers"was quite different than it was 30 years later (and, certainly SINCE then!) and: NO images were, actually, generated. They were manipulated, to acheive a certain visual quality, using then-available computers. In fact: computer graphics were at an EXTREMELY LOW resolution and quality at this point! ....What Westworld used them for was: to manipulate filmed images (which had already been created [shot]) and to create the "look of" and "on-board"/"internal" view from android. Again: NO computer generated images were ever generated until the film: Young Sherlock Holmes [1985?]. This film contains the first, moving, fully computer generated image, on-screen.. I am pretty confident in saying that: the next experience to be had with such images was: James Cameron's 1989 epic: The Abyss. ... So: claiming that "C.G.I. existed in the '70s" is: inept, partially stupid and not accurate or is: "correct, but not" &, simultaneously, requisite of explanation. ---- All the C.G.I. that Lucas added to the Star wars films (the original trilogy (and only, truly, worthwhile one. Yes.) was done "on the backs of" his employ of such imagery in his "prequel" trilogy. The re-releases on DVD were, effectively. "concurrent"with those, so... ...also: (although many will scoff at what I am about to say, they are, indelibly, WRONG --- or deluded --- ) all of the added footage and "items" [to: the initial trilogy/the original films] do not, actually, improve or assist in ANY of the Star Wars films in being "better." ...it is (for example!) unnecessary and overbearing to show Vader, consistently "choking out" people; multiple times, in each movie. Once (or even twice) was enough! It is (has been made!) overbearing and treats the audience as: ignorant and/or bloodthirsty (which: over-the-decades, most audiences have, disturbingly, disgustingly BECOME --- moreso!)). SO: No. NOT "improvements." I don't care, AT ALL, what Lucas CLAIMS he "wanted," originally" (or even "had planned" 🙄🙄 ...but "the technology wouldn't let him do/have, at the time;" etc.!). You can never go "back to what was in your mind" years or decades before, entirely accurately. ...so: even if you believe that to be the case, you, yourself are wrong.

There was no CGI back in 1977. This was all custom model work. George Lucas literally had to invent the special effects industry to make this film.

This is not markipliers show. He is listed as a producer because he supported it monetarily. He is not much more than an actor in it, and a patron for it.

"The Empire Strikes Back" is the BEST "Star Wars" movie and one of the GREATEST films of all time. Easily my favorite John Williams film score.

Fun fact: Vader "breathes" whilst talking because that isn't him breathing all the time, that is just the suit sucking in oxygen for him to use as he wishes. Under the mask he breathes at whatever pace is comfortable.
