Watching Mission: Impossible for the first time!

- Hi everyone! I've decided since I loved John Wick so much I would check out all the amazing action films I've missed out on! So here's my commentary and reaction to the very first Mission: Impossible movie. I can't wait to continue this series.

"An American agent, under false suspicion of disloyalty, must discover and expose the real spy without the help of his organization."

The theme music was originally written for the 1966/88 Mission Impossible TV series on which the movies are based on. I haven't heard the show's version but I think they modified it for the movies.
Fun fact: Jon Voight's character (Jim Phelps) was the protagonist on the show and they made him a villain in this one which took many people by surprise. Tom Cruise's character was created for the movies.
That’s so cool! That would be very surprising. I did some research and it looks like both the 60s and 80s were big times for a lot of spy shows and movies.
@@BecauseBecaBeBecait was big but very low budget. If you watched the older shows it’s amazingly cheesy and also has some VERY badly written depictions of non Americans.
Another fun fact: Jon Voight is actually Angelina Jolie's father. In Tomb Raider he plays her (dead) father. Though the two don't really get along, mostly due to political differences. After shooting Tomb Raider she became a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.
ps: The movie with Tom Cruise where his name is Jack is called Jack Reacher (and the sequel is called Jack Reacher: Never Go Back).
This is one of those influential movies I always knew I should watch, but never have. This peaked my interest enough that I might actually go watch it now

That was a fun watchalong with you, loved yer giddyness throughout all this. There were a lot of spy flicks and shows that have been adapted over time from the 60's, like this franchise. The "Good morning Mr Phelps" line carried quite the goosebumps inducing cache in its day. I'm glad yer checking out the other M:I flicks, but there's also Man From Uncle, the recent one with Cavill as well, the 007 series, as well as Val Kilmer's fun-cheese that was 1997's The Saint. The other 90's show-to-movie was Harrison Ford's 1993 flick, The Fugitive. I hope you try those out as well.

Another fact: the theme music was written by Lalo Schifrin an Argentine composer. He made a loth of film music and tv shows from the 60s to the 2000s.

So I watched some bts and Cruise did perform that water stunt and the train stunt in this one! So he was already doing it! So crazy. Can’t wait to see the rest!

Man, if I had a time machine I'd go back to 1996. Besides the whole Monica Lewinsky thing, OJ's trial or the Pierce Brosnan era of James Bond, the '90s were a grand time to be alive, as well for me, an 11 year old.
By the way, as already mentioned here in these comments (boo, somebody beat me to it) that original Mission Impossible theme was written for said tv series by one of my favorite Cinema Composers Lalo Schifrin. He also wrote the entire score with his jazz fusion style to one of the greatest movies ever.. Bullitt.
