A quick note on the gaming channel. I'll be uploading any of the gaming videos I've unlisted on this channel to the new channel over the next week or so here: www.youtube.com/@BecauseBecaGames
You all are missing 96% of the backlash. They have sponsors, ads, merch, and patreon. They have more than enough. Then, they back peddled a bit, and stopped trying to take down the old content, only to gaslight us and say that they never said that even though they tried to do that. They are deleting comments, and Steven posted a rude comment on his insta about the backlash. Stop trying to support that, because that's nasty through and through.
Yeah moist critical did a good breakdown of their financials. Also people on Reddit. They make about 40K just from Adsense per month. About 10-16K per ad spot. Moist said about 60K from pateron per month too.
Whether they're being greedy or genuinely passionate about taking a step forward is second to the fact that it's just a horrendously implemented idea. Asking people to pay for something they're used to getting for free very rarely goes well. I think it would have gone a lot better if they announced the platform as a space for extra content or exclusive shows and made a slow transition to producing more for their platform and less for UA-cam. As it is, they're cutting their audience off cold turkey and it feels like a slap in the face.
the beef with stephen is that by and large nobody watches his content and the vast majority of the audience doesn’t care for it. his videoed are expensive to produce and pretty outdated and random imo. he’s just spending $10k on himself going to restaurants and filming himself eat only getting 100k views doing it compared to shane and ryan getting 3mil. stephen has his own series of shows he produces and all of which are also super expensive to produce and do POORLY. private chefs, and driving around in his new tesla, edible gold. it’s all food content that hasn’t been popular since like 2016. can’t believe they’re saying they need to be able to pay 30 employees so they need to charge fans for this subscription service, but 1/3 of their content (and like 1/3 of their employees). AND they announce a new stephen produced food show with new cast members as they’re begging us for money? BRO love ur video ! so glad to see people talk about this
The amount of money they are already making would amaze you. They claim they need to make even more because they’ve got a staff of 25 or more people. Question is, do they really need that much to make a successful channel? Did they need to hire all their bros? People like the relationship between the hosts - they really don’t care about it being more “polished”.
Also how many of those twenty some people can identify what they even do there? Like… it’s easy to run a company (my dad owns one) with way less employees, although it’s not an entertainment company for him- it’s still like, either way if they downsized they’d make a lot more
If you're wondering why I don't like Steven 'I want a second Tesla' Lim: a lot of his content is just about spending lavishly. $4000 gold leaf steak. It's one thing going to fancy restaurants, but his content is specifically about seeking out the most expensive things. So, when asking your viewers for money, while making that sort of content? Yeah, that's spoiled rich boy energy. Or, DSP "give me money so I can whale on gacha games" energy. Edit: Also, at 10:00 I'm wondering if those guys who said that were their patrons. Because as you know, their Patreon is still staying open, and their patrons aren't being given memberships to their streaming service. They're getting a *discount* on their streaming services. So if they've been on their highest tier, and are half-way through their yearly pledge and Watcher announced they're removing content, I can understand why they'd be pissed. Their highest Patreon tier is at $100 per month.
Stephen appears to be taking most of the hate because he’s has this “money guy” reputation amongst the 3 and people are assuming that he is the most responsible for this tone deaf decision.
this couldve been avoided by a youtube poll to gauge interest. literally the only people ove seen getting subscriptions are the ones sharing the password across the internet.
This is true. They chose to confirm this on Patreon. So it seems like they are doubling down. The only fans they’re interested in talk to are paying fans. Many fans including me think they walked back on the content being taken down on YT after the negative reception. We’re thinking they intended to do that then changed their minds. Idk. This whole thing is pretty sad, and they still haven’t addressed their fan base besides that single comment on Patreon.
Yes, Shane did say share the password, and someone did that. They bought a sub and posted the login on reddit. Then someone posted a screenshot of the Vimeo platform they’re using saying “sorry, you have too many devices connected, you are limited to 3 devices”. So 3 people could share I suppose.
I still like Shane and Ryan and I'm so glad that they aren't deleting all their old videos because that is what would make me the most upset. However I'm still a little iffy about the website, you pay about the same amount and get the same content over on their Patreon right now. I'd need to see how the situation updates with whether or not we get more new exclusive shows. While Dropout is successful, they have a bigger variety of shows - including originals -and other content right from the beginning while Watcher only has (right now) what's currently on their UA-cam for free. It just concerns me that this isn't going to be like Dropout but fail and fall apart like what happened with Roosterteeth. Anyway, glad you are respectful about it but I can't help but doubt watcher right now.
The problem is, and you said it yourself, that most people is subscribed for that one thing (and for MOST of those people it's Ghost Files lbr) and they aren't watching the rest, or just watch it casually, here and then. You can't justify subscription service for one show (unless you are HBO and you make Game of Thrones). If the guys wants to move on to high production, high budget type stuff and make big production company, that's fine but they can't expect their audience to be paying for it. The break up thing is correct. I think if they went to Netflix and pitched them a show, they'd happily pay for it and their audience would be over the moon. But we know Ryan and Shane aren't corporate rats, they don't want to sign of their souls to Netflix, like they did with Buzzfeed. But in doing so, they should've kept in mind that asking their audience to pay for their dreams is insane and it's not going to work.
"If you can't do whatever you feel like, you may as well go work for someone else," and that's the delusion. Influencers think they're entitled to success based on desire, as opposed to marker demand. Guess what, if you want to do things that don't have a customer demographic, you're going to go broke doing it. Supply and demand. If you have no interest in tailoring your different passions to an audience demand - yeah, go "work for someone else". It's not as terrifying as Gen Z seems to cry it is. Go get a pay cheque and enjoy your free time.
What I said was “UA-cam and creative careers should be a place where you are pursing your goals and your aspirations otherwise why not just go work for any other job if you’re going to do stuff you don’t want to”. Which is very different from “doing whatever you feel like”. I was in no way saying that getting a “normal” job is terrifying. I work a full time desk job and have no issues with it. I’m not fulfilled by it though. So my perspective is that if i’m not making the type of content that I want to online, why spend all my time doing it? If i’m slaving away editing videos I don’t enjoy making, I might as well keep my 9-5 and not waste my time here. No need to have two jobs I’m not fulfilled by. I spend all my free time editing and filming videos because I enjoy it and it’s in line with my future goals.

@@BecauseBecaBeBeca so just one more thing that i forgot to mention, the other reason i said to you watch the cocytus media compilation of tribetwelve is because Adam rosner, the creator of tribetwelve, in 2020 was acused of being a groomer and in response to that, Adam disapered from the internet, which caused the series to be canceled, so cocytus media made this compilation, so that people can watch the series without having to go to his monitized Channel, i know that i after what i said, you probably would not want react to tribetwelve due to the fact that the creator is a piece of shit, but i would really be happy If you react to It, the series os really good(at least to me) and despite the fact that the creator is not a good person, i still think its worth it to watch It, but It is up to decide If you want to watch it or not, well whatever your decision is, i will respect It
