Yes that was all footage from the Xbox Series X and S running the latest patch, which includes the 2nd Next Gen update from May 2024. I use the “FOV 90” mod 👍

Quake's my wind-down game (Steam said it was my most played game in 2023!) but I have it set to default FOV. Might pump it up, see how that goes. But I agree, 120 in Fallout 4 is extreme. Cheers!

I totally agree. Fallout 3 really does look awesome on Series X. The mind-blowing part is that it was all done without any new textures or games assets (unlike almost all other remasters). Amazing work.

Good point. I imagine the fps & stability issues some of these mods have on Series consoles will be present on One X too; though the One X does have a bit more RAM to work with than the Series S. Cheers.

Sorry for the late reply. I did learn when testing all these mods that sometimes I needed to do a 'hard reset' (press console's off button for 10 second then unplug it for a couple of minutes). I only had to uninstall and re-install once, and that was more due to the mod menu crapping out on me. A middle solution on Xbox is to delete the game's allocated storage space, which is where it keeps all save games and downloaded mods. This also deletes the Creation Club content.

Well spotted. That clip was 540p test footage i make just for me to seek out fps differences. Once I find a difference i then go back and make a higher resolution version. Low res clips are a LOT quicker to make and most don’t show a difference anyway. I just used it as I was only talking about time of day changes - and couldn’t be arsed remaking it :) Cheers!

That’s a good tip but I did look at it in my previous video on grass mods so don’t include it here. Of all the grass/tree and env mods I tested GitC causes the biggest drop in fps so I didn’t recommend it, especially to Series S users. Just like you I also mentioned in the grass video how to find it as the mod search engine doesn’t play nice sometimes! Cheers.

I might go back and see which PS4 games get a nice bump in fps on the Pro next. Let me know if any PS4 games you know struggle on the standard PS5. Cheers!

Hdmi 2.1 is enough. They all are the same. The one what came with the ps5 is a high quality cable.

I agree, the PS5 HDMI cable is spec'd for the console's output. However, I've seen that for long cable lengths quality can matter (i.e. how much above the specification the cable is rated for).

an hdmi cable is an hdmi cable.. the only improvements and differences are the types.. like hdmi 2 vs 2.1 .. as long as it works, itll work the same as a more expensive one lol.. it just sends 01010101 digital data,,, there is no possible way of improving how it is sent.. it either works or it doesnt, an expensive one isnt going to perform better

I think Digital Foundry had some issues with visual quality of DD2 with PSSR but I wasn’t looking for that and, to be honest, didn’t notice any issue. I like how it runs!

Yes, I think the next console, from MS or Sony, will be close to the Pro's price point. The big advantage of consoles is standardisation. In theory this means the game should 'just play' and run the same every time. Not sure this is *actually* what happens - but I like the idea. Cheers!

i know many people who have very expensive pc's and bought a ps5 pro recently or even only play on ps5 despite owning a rtx4090... major ben gaming on youtube is one of these people.. but they are not rare,... console exists for convenience. no need to install drivers etc. just works out of the box. if a console is worthy of the price point, people will buy it.. its just tech at the end of the day... you seem like a pc fanboy, but your mindset does not apply to everyone. so pointless trying to force what you prefer onto others, that never works

OK, good feedback. Thanks. The actual comparison vids with fps graphs take a lot of time to generate, so time limits how many I can make and show. I agree, the GPU-limited games will see the most improvement in fps with the Pro (or regions within games that are GPU-bound). Gotta say though it is a pleasant surprise when I see a game with an obvious fps boost (more than I would have thought), even without a Pro patch. Cheers!

Even in "cpu limited games" like dragons dogma there is a big improvement

@@johnpsy4129 Good point, though not all areas in DD2 are CPU-limited apparently. The Pro can run the CPU 10% faster than the standard PS5 but i believe a patch is needed to enable this. It might have been included as part of the latest DD2 patch that i tested. Cheers!

I get your point. I find it interesting that on the Pro all graphics options were removed in Star Wars Outlaws. There’s now just one mode. Apparently also for The Last of Us Part 1 and FFVII re-something. Cheers👍

Yes, you can get it off the xbox store. If you have Xbox Game Pass the main game is included. A couple of commenters here have said some of the dlc were not available in their region. Not sure why. Cheers.

I anticipate Green in the Comm. behaves a little better on your Series X than the Series S i tested it on but i believe you when you say you noticed fps variations. Good point re switching mid-game; i wonder if issues i had with some grass and tree mods was because of that. You could always have a separate dedicated 'test' save to try out a couple of alternatives. Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback. As I said up front the video is just about quantifying differences in fps with the new console. 4K footage and VRR discussions were not needed to achieve that. It was a fun video to make and achieved the intended goal 👍

Yes, I agree. I think a consistent fps is more important than high fps. I played Outlaws, Avatar and Fallout 4 in their 40fps modes because “performance” modes on standard PS5 and XBSX didn’t maintain 60fps. But for this video I was keen to see *how much* improvement there is 👍

Thanks. Makes sense that ER varies visual settings dynamically. But I remember reading Elden Ring's Performance mode has dynamic resolution up to 1440p (which i incorrectly labelled "frame-rate" mode in the video - confused it with RE4!) and Quality mode is set at 4k. I can imagine there will be environments in the game where it will go below 48fps in quality mode - the location I measured it was quite "tame" i think. Cheers!

As long as you have VRR it shouldn’t have been much of an issue.

The biggest change for Pro is PSSR. It makes a significant boost in frames for PSSR titles. The other games without PSSR does run slightly better on Pro but the improvement isnt as drastic as PSSR

@@meejmuas8686 The improvement for non-PSSR games varies - kinda the reason for this video. e.g. Elden Ring does not even have a PS5 Pro patch but performs noticeably better. GoW FPS with PSSR on is lower than with it off... but the overall look is improved. Which just goes to show frame rate is only part of the story.

Yeah shadows as well though there are alignment issues on current patch which can look a bit odd at times
