Lift Your Mood With Intense Exercise | Hill Cycling
I started really pushing myself whilst cycling, by doing massive hill climbs and bursts of super intense riding. This really helped me to feel good, and also strengthened my core, giving me reduced back issues. I report on how my mood changes during the ride. In summary, it helps me to feel fantastic! I hope that you are inspired by my video, and are encouraged to become fitter and have a go at pushing yourself (make sure it's ok with your doctor though). Start with easy steady away excercise, and gradually build up over many months, then incorporate bursts of intensity into your training. It's surprising how good it makes you feel!
I hope you enjoyed the video. If you did then please leave a like and consider subscribing :)

***** MY CHANNEL BACKGROUND *****
My UA-cam channel was originally created many years ago to share what I did to recover from various health issues. I've since changed it's name to 'Ayup Stuggy', something that's more personal to me rather than just diet focused. Ayup (often spelled in various ways!), is a greeting from northern England. It's means 'hi, I hope you're doing ok'. Stuggy is my old nickname from when I was 7 years old. If you see me, then feel free to say 'Ayup Stuggy'... or what ever you like!
Take care.

    Sonny, the bottle attached to the under frame is really an inappropriate position to have it. Why, because when you're in transit, the front tyre will flick up sand, dirt and other debris against the bottle, then you'll have a dirty cap when you pop up the cap to drink. It's best to have the bottle holder inside the triangle frame preferably on the vertical bar

      LOL! Oh how I wish it were! My bike is broken after this ride. My derailleur is ok (I think). However, the the 'braze-on' derailleur bracket was bent with a couple of hair line cracks in it. As I tried to straighten it back at home, it snapped! This is part of my frame, which I've still yet to sort out. There's a picture link in my description. Conditioning - get a trainer and Zwift or trainer road, do the training programs through winter four or five, 60-90 minute sessions per week. More frequent rides with intervals is much more productive that fewer long rides. Loose weight (be sensible) Get some fast tubeless tyres Schwalbe Pro One or similar - the ones you've got look like 'Marathons' or similar they can be 10 - 15 watts per wheel more - if you get a trainer you'll see how massive an extra 20 watts is on your limit. Ditch the bag of goodies, only carry what you can put in your pockets - Tight clothing, the baggy stuff creates loads of drag once you are past 15mph, resistance is exponential to your speed! Nutrition - watch GCN.

    • @AyupStuggy
      @AyupStuggy 14 днів тому

      Thanks for all your tips! - Zwift is great! I did group rides and races, not too many longer rides though. I'll look into your suggestions and be more consistent. - attempting to loose weight. I like food too much though! I'm gradually getting back into healthier living, like I did years ago on my very early videos :) - Yes I will get some different tyres in the next cycling season. Others have pointed out that I can go faster with different tyres too. - goodies is a comfort factor thing. I'm trying to cut down on that too. You should have seen what I used to carry! - Clothing is getting better, but also more baggy as I loose weight! Gabba top and arm warmers are nice and snug and great clothing. I do feel faster when wearing those. - I'm subbed to gcn, and will pay more attention to fueling up. You've been really helpful! Thanks for taking the time to comment and write out your suggestions. Thanks :) I was wondering why some riders where a cap under their helmet! I do have a clip on peak for my helmet, but don't like wearing it as it impedes my view slightly. I will have to consider buying a cap for my next big ride.

    I did the coast to coast between Whitehaven and Redcar (125 miles) solo for charity in 6 hours 38 minutes in total, taking it easy and including 3 x short sandwich / drink stops.

      You are fast! That is one of the more usual C2C routes. I've done the Sustrans C2C route twice, that's 137 miles each time in 3 days. I still have some way to go in my fitness journey to get my speed up and weight down. I'll be working on it! Keep pedalling :)

      'All day shell' from Galibier. Website link and exact part is in my video description. The easiest way to find it is to paste the description in the Galibier search box. The clothing is great, but site is difficult to navigate. The top has been fantastic! and it compacts to really small.

    Could I enquire stuggy about your bike an what model is it, apart from it being a specialized..it seems to fit all rides regardless of Moor trail or road riding..great video.

    • @AyupStuggy
      @AyupStuggy Місяць тому

      Thanks John. It's a Specialised Diverge e5 gravel bike, and is very tough compared to road bikes! (apart from rear wheel spoke issues I had, but I've given it a lot of hammer!). I fitted some tough road tyres to it (Schwalbe Durano plus), and it still is ok on disused railway trails (apart from heavy gravel). There is a touring rack on the back, and an old mudguard that I cable tied to the rack, which works well. I use mountain bike shoes and pedals so that I can easily walk around when not on the bike. Since this video, I fixed the spoke, and another snapped on a recent ride, so I've had the rear wheel completely re-spoked. I did a shed load of miles on this in the pass year, so fitted a new Freehub. Overall it's lovely bike. My bike is the elite model, I could have saved a lot of money in going for the non elite model. The brakes and gears are nice though. I guess most gravel bikes, if fitted with tough road tyres would give the same gravel/road benefit. I was advised not to take a road bike on gravel, but a tougher gravel bike on the road with road tyres would be ok. I hope that helps!

      @AyupStuggy Thanks stuggy I ride much like you trails and road, in and around Coldstream an the borders area on a genesis with 28 gatorskins on, ok till you hit mud deeper than 1/2 inch..Will look into what specialized offers price wise, thanks stuggy for your in depth info on the diverge range.

    • @AyupStuggy
      @AyupStuggy Місяць тому

      The Borders area is lovely to cycle around. I'm doing a few Audax rides and I did a video last year on my first 200km Audax in that area. If you do a search on Audax.uk for rides within 150km of you, you will see a few coming up. I have some 200km rides this summer in the NE/borders area too. I'm usually last or near to last :) There's some much fitter guys and girls doing this sort of thing! .... I try to keep out of the mud! My tyres are 700x28C size.

    Great video, Stuggy! This is bringing back all the memories of climbing up GDF! Massive kudos for stopping and being able to get started again on those inclines, that's no mean feat! Even more kudos for putting the camera down for the B-roll of you cycling past, as I know you had to cycle back down to get the camera before carrying on! The trials and tribulations of being a UA-camr! Also, 3:55 'He's on an e-bike' said through gritted teeth! I felt your pain. 🤣 Spent a week staycation in Appleby a few years too and agree it's absolutely stunning. We even stopped at Hartside Summit on a scenic route back from Windermere to Appleby. Beautiful view that. Can't believe you did this as part of a 200km+ ride though and on a broken spoke for the last half. I barely managed the 8km GDF climb on its own. You'll smash that Audax. Chapeau, sir! 🧢

      Thanks Peter! Not quite as polished as yours yet, but I'm learning how to do it. It's so time consuming editing. I started off with over 2 hours of footage, and it took me nearly 2 days to edit it down! I must try and do more videos and be more constant with them. I would have loved to have done more 'B-roll', but I was limited on time and still had another 100km to ride home!

    Hats off to you for keeping going! I came off my e bike along a gravel path in summer, (shorts and t shirt) I hit a tree root and it knocked the handlebars clean out of my hands! I was thrown violently to the ground and had scraped my elbow and knee, like yourself, except the blood kept dripping from the elbow! I cycled to a local supermarket and used their toilets to remove the gravel from my arm and knee, it was excruciating! I then went in search of bandages and found some but could not lift my arm higher than my waist! Blood was still dripping from my arm onto the supermarket floor! A kind man saw my predicament and helped me put the bandage on. I suddenly fet very nauseous and nearly fainted at the check out. I rang my wife who picked me up in the car and demanded that I went to hospital, I refused! She took me anyway and I had broken my humerous! That was last September. I am just getting my arm back to 80% flexibility compared to how it was. I wish you a speedy recovery!!
