@magnusmulliner Hi Magnus, Thanks for your comments. Yes I really like sweet potatoes. I don't consume salt, but I do understand that if training for many hours and drinking lots, then consuming salt to replace electrolytes can be beneficial or even essential. I did eat all the spuds and bananas as I went, so I wasn't that concerned. I did have plenty of energy, although my quads and glutes were rather pumped and I needed a good rest at the end. Looking forward to my next trip! :-)
@didrock17 Thanks for your encouragement! It guys like you, when saying nice things to help build others up, that makes the world a better place :-) Cheers! Stuart
@angelbe88 Me too. Fruit is the best, because calories eaten hardly take any of the body's resources to get those calories to the muscles. It's like being rocket propelled! Sometimes, I just can't get hold of the ripe fruit I want though, either due to unavailability or ridiculous prices. Through experimentation, I found that plain complex carb's keeps me going strong without bringing back my old health problems. Kind regards, Stuart
Thank you :-). ... I guess there's no point in starving myself just because I can't get enough ripe bananas or dates! Spuds are my preferred source of cooked carb's.
@natureasintended Salt, fat and sugar are the three main ingredients used to make food addictive. If you determine to take these out of your diet then eventually plain food tastes better and you will naturally prefer the healthier options. Think of any addictive food and it will almost certainly contain at least one of these added ingredients. I had a great bike ride thanks!
@RawChanneLife I find it better to eat cooked carb's than unripe fruit, or high fat raw food. I guess if I run out of money then cooked carb's are not too bad, but I do feel amazing pretty much all the time if I can stay on the ripe fruit and salad greens. Plenty of greens, cooked or raw are great too. Cooked greens are better than no greens, they're also better than overloading your digestive system with raw 'heavy' greens. I don't eat lots of lentils and beans, just occasionally.
You loose some nutrients in the water if boiling veg, however never throw it away, it makes excellent stock and superb soup. That way you loose nothing when compared to steaming or baking. I'd keep away from frying and roasting for maximum health benefits.
@Spies152 Organic is better, but I don't focus on that. I find with fruit, the most important thing is that it needs to be ripe. I also eat lots of greens (either raw salads or cooked veggies), and plant based whole food cooked carb's like rice, potatoes, lentils and beans.
100% low fat raw is the ultimate! I couldn't afford it though. Sorry for bit of a late response! I'm back on UA-cam, with only occasional postings at moment, under my renamed channel. I'm mainly doing cycling stuff at moment.
@lightofloveunlimited When I eat complex carb's I usually eat them just plain. ie no salt, fat, spices, sauces - I feel best that way. The spuds in this video were baked. Other times I might boil or steam them. For a bike ride though, baked spuds are the most convenient. Ripe fruit is great too, although not at the same time!
Wow no sugar on your porridge? Grated apple and dates on it would be nice :) It's great to see the result of your self-discipline with this diet is you feel good with high energy levels. Hope you had a great bike ride!
Thanks! I'm getting in loads of bike rides nowadays. Sorry for bit of a late response! I'm back on UA-cam, with only occasional postings at moment, under my renamed channel. I'm mainly doing cycling stuff at moment.
Thanks! I still take jacket spuds with me! Sorry for bit of a late response! I'm back on UA-cam, with only occasional postings at moment, under my renamed channel. I'm mainly doing cycling stuff at moment.
I've found that I need lots of greens. Salads are best but heaps of steamed veggies are also good. Heaps of raw cabbage, broccoli and kale are too much for my digestion so if eating these, I'll tend to cook them.
thanks, if i get a craving for meat or bread, ill eat rice or oatmeal, potatoes i dont like as much, maybe yams if there not to sweet and mushy. i want to eat vegtable soup, because i dont eat enough vegtables, and i need to learn to like salad.
Thanks for your comment. Salad is fab if you can learn to like it. It make you feel really good, especially if home grown. Sorry for bit of a late response! I'm back on UA-cam, with only occasional postings at moment, under my renamed channel. I'm mainly doing cycling stuff at moment.
I think Jacket potato is better, mainly because you tend to have the skin and more fibre. I also prefer them that way. Sorry for bit of a late response! I'm back on UA-cam, with only occasional postings at moment, under my renamed channel. I'm mainly doing cycling stuff at moment.

All organic is very hard to get and expensive. Nowadays I aim for a high carb diet. Sorry for bit of a late response! I'm back on UA-cam, with only occasional postings at moment, under my renamed channel. I'm mainly doing cycling stuff at moment.

that's what I've been doing as well. Eating potatos, rice. I have to say there is still a big difference in the way I feel when I do just 100%raw.

Stuart, is there a difference in health benefits in the way you cook potato- does it matter if I bake it or boil it?

You made us belly laugh here! I was rather clueless on youtube at the time, now I'm just slightly less clueless!
What are raw "heavy" greens? broccoli?
