    Would you be doing the cabling for the video surveillance? Cabling gets into an entirely different element regarding liability/insurance / bonds, etc. Also, for video surveillance installation & support, Would that be a different Billable rate situation. Charge less per hour to take care of phone support / on-site support, like instead of 120/hr. for computer services, would you go like $80/hr. for the surveillance rate?

    • @growthgenerators
      @growthgenerators 4 дні тому

      Great question. So if you're not familiar with running cabling then I would sub that out. Otherwise it would be the same rate as computer services for managing the system. Once they are onboarded to the system its SUPER low maintenance and you could charge it as a computer or two per month.

    Here's the modern tech stack for MSPs -Notion for Documentation (Internal, and customer facing) -Zendesk for ticketing -Calendly & Zoom for appointments and calls ScreenConnect for remote support Microsoft 365 or Google Workspaces for Email, File Sharing, Backups, and Productivity/Office Software Stripe for Billing & Accounting Bitwarden for password management Everything else is irrelevant (for the most part) and outdated. Any clients that have legacy infrastructure or hardware you must make it a mandatory and immediate initiative for them to modernize, even if YOU as the MSP eat the costs of making that leap and implementation for them. It's ultimately cheaper for you to manage them and operate your business. Win win. Supporting legacy is where MSPs go to die. The costs of transition to modernity is VERY cheap. Don't overthink it. I say this after 22 years working for MSPs and owning my own. Don't do contracts unless your client wants them, it's simpler without. Setup them up on recurring billing in Stripe using their credit card. Don't do check, or bank transfers or anything else. It simplifies getting paid, and makes billing 10x easier. The old method of billing per user/device is antiquated. Instead bill per request and include X amount of requests per month for different packages you offer. Never do VPNs that tech is ancient and unnecessary. Never do local/onsite file sharing solutions or devices, always use cloud. All firewalls, routers, switches, etc must be unify, meraki, or another cloud managed equivalent. Always keep a backup of the core necessary hardware for example the main firewall. Never use ethernet if you can avoid it just another set of problems to deal with. Wifi is robust these days and 10x easier to manage. Fully automate provisioning for new hires, and automate terminations this will save you thousands of hours of work. Never use legacy print drivers or print servers. Use cloud print solutions (universal print from Microsoft, or google cloud print, etc) This will eliminate hundreds of support requests per month and it literally takes 1 day to roll out to 100 users. The short version is leverage the tech available. Great leaps have taken place in tech in the last 4-5 years to make managing 1000+ users easy as pie.

    I recommend being cautious when providing SEO advice to MSPs. Some of your suggestions may work in less competitive markets but will have little to no effect in highly competitive environments. Additionally, suggesting that it is "super easy to rank" is dishonest. Given your example of Charlotte IT services, ranking in that market would be fairly expensive, time consuming, and there would be no content you could write that would rank for primary service keywords by itself. It's important the viewer understand that content alone doesn't rank; it requires a comprehensive strategy that is not covered in this material and could waste viewers time and money if they follow this blindly.

    • @growthgenerators

      I agree, but doing something is always better than doing nothing. I know SEO to a pretty extensive degree. My goal is to simply get people going in the right direction, making content and understanding the differences. I hope that people who watch all of my videos do more in-depth research and try these techniques on their own to see the results. My goal is to raise awareness, and if they choose to go down the SEO road, there's a lot to learn. I would also state that ranking, especially locally, is not all that difficult for most MSPs since 99% of the competition isn't creating anything. I would also hope that most people will know if it's competitive in their area. That, in my opinion, is business/company/brand awareness and knowing who your competitors are.

    • @insurgus
      @insurgus 6 днів тому

      @@growthgenerators Content doesn't rank. The reason people think it does is because they accidentally trigger a non-competitive SERP. This will lead to a slight increase in traffic as you make a few (positive) mistakes over the years, but anyone who knows SEO will tell you that traffic is not a success metric. Ranking for the business specific SERPs in your industry is. The best advice I can give anyone who reads down into the comments is that if you come across an SEO company pitching you with promises of traffic gains or “special sauce”, you should run for the hills. These are the same type of people who sell extended warranties or contact your customers direct after a deal registration.

In this case and what I always tell people who choose open source, free or cheap software there is a reason for that. MSPs live on the forefront of technology. To build a business you need a software that works and you can't spend your time always trying to fix it. I think the private/residential isn't all that bad. People will pay hourly for you to fix IT related things for them and when its residential its menial tasks and never my server died and now i cant run my business. I would say if you are just doing things on the side or a one man band residential is ideal. I've done some for 80hr with $40 min. Did it on the side on the weekends. Had plenty of clients mainly old people. But incredibly easy tasks. Was making an extra 2 to 3 grand a month on top of my MSP job. and that was just weekends. Didn't even get into the option of offering the reoccurring services with RMM and what not. It can get boring but boring means easy lol. Gotta appreciate it, a lot of people did a lot harder or shittier jobs for a lot less. Cant complain making 80hr showing some old people how to use a printer or cleaning up their computer haha. But by all means everything he mentions is spot on if you are trying to go for business clients.Great video and information.

    I just left connect wise because we signed up with a bundle for PSA, RMM and helpdesk and it took a week to get a response on the next steps, then 3 days later got ahold of the person that is supposed to be in charge of our account, he set up a meeting for the implementation of the PSA and the guy doing that training had the fucking audacity to say he had no availability till August which is two months away and said they would find someone else to train us and he would get back and still nothing! For spending 3k a month and to be treated like that. Heck no!

    Hello, if your company helps MSP be very successful. Why do you not have an MSP that is very successful? Genuinely curious on why your didn't take that route (assuming obviously)

    • @growthgenerators
      @growthgenerators Місяць тому

      Great question! I share this story quite a bit throughout the channel. I started making these videos to help, as I was an executive for an MSP. I helped them add about $2 million in revenue over approximately two years. From there, I left and started my own digital marketing business because I was burnt out from the MSP world. I realized I could help a lot of MSPs with their businesses, so I began making videos. The audience demanded more content and more help. Since then, we have helped tons of MSPs and IT professionals (125k+) grow, start, and market their MSPs. So the short answer is I never really had time to start my own MSP, but there may be a day in the future when that happens! I also receive incredible feedback in many of my videos and on the Discord about the success people are having by following my guidance and knowledge, further proving that what I am teaching works incredibly well. Unfortunately, with my community and UA-cam commitments, I have no time left to start another business, but there may be a time down the road!

    My bussiness plan was I start an msp company that is based on subcontracting where i offer all services for all industries but threw subcontracting speaclized msp industries. Where i dont have any cost because the money i will recieve from a bussiness to offer a service will use it to pay for the subcontractor and should act basically as a salesmen only. Do you think its a good idea? Do you have any advice on it?

    • @growthgenerators
      @growthgenerators Місяць тому

      Thanks for sharing your business plan! I think your idea of subcontracting specialized MSP services is an interesting approach. By acting as a sales intermediary and connecting clients with the right providers, you can offer a wide range of expertise without the high costs of maintaining a large team. Here are a few tips to help you make this work: Reliable Partners: Make sure to partner with high-quality, reliable MSPs. Your reputation depends on their performance, so choose subcontractors you can trust to deliver excellent service consistently. Clear Agreements: Draft detailed contracts with your subcontractors that outline service levels, response times, and payment terms. This will help manage expectations and reduce the risk of misunderstandings. Value-Added Services: Think about how you can add value beyond just connecting clients and subcontractors. Excellent customer service, project management, or acting as a single point of contact can make a big difference. Profit Margins: Be mindful of your pricing structure. Ensure there's enough margin between what you charge clients and what you pay subcontractors to cover your operational costs and generate a profit. Client Relationships: Maintain strong relationships with your clients. Regular check-ins to ensure they're satisfied with the services provided and addressing any issues promptly can help build trust and loyalty. Scalability: Consider how your business model can scale. As you grow, managing multiple subcontractors and client relationships can become complex. Implementing efficient systems and processes will be key to handling this growth. Best of luck on this! I would also consider joining MSP HEROES so we can sit down regularly and go over where you're at at why you might be struggling with!

    I have a question that I don't easy have an answer to but I do estimate I'm somewhat valid. If 10-20% of the talent pool that is leaving corporate/enterprise/smb/non profits right now with all the different layoffs and firing happening, doesn't that mean MSP's typically would be utilized to a higher fashion in the interim and by proxy, wouldn't MSP's be soaking up the same talent where applicable? Like it seems to me the companies can't keep people internally, hire out externally, and a % of those people probably use to work for the company they were fired from. I've personally seen this happen to me with MSPs. They scout/vet a company, figure a way to buy IT out of the company, hire me, then charge the company I left the same thing they paid for me in salary, but now I would probably slightly make less than the salary was but potentially could grow and make more in time since not stuck at 1 company, instead working for a msp for multiples.

    • @growthgenerators
      @growthgenerators Місяць тому

      That's a really good question! With so many people getting laid off from big companies right now, it makes sense that MSPs would be used more. When companies can't keep their own IT staff, they often hire MSPs to do the job instead. So, MSPs are probably hiring some of the people who got laid off. I've seen this happen too. An MSP checks out a company, buys out their IT department, and then hires people like you. They charge the company about the same amount they were paying for your salary, but you might get paid a bit less at first. The cool thing is, you can probably grow and make more money over time because you're not stuck at one company. You get to work on different projects for multiple companies, which can be really interesting. So yeah, with all the layoffs, it seems like MSPs are picking up the slack and hiring the same people who were let go. It creates new opportunities for both MSPs and the IT pros who are looking for work.

      If you are big I would definitely say have a personal with decent information architecture experience label and line this up. That part can be the headache. You give customers a sea of options, it’s no different than going to a great restaurant but their menu is 20 pages/bends/folds. Focus on the core of what you do best and highlight that, the rest put them in a catalog underneath categories

      Considering the context of his video, while you could build a website from scratch with html css and I assume you forgot JavaScript. I would ask why bother. Wordpress is at best a glorified champ most of the world used but it’s not required also. If you decided today in your garage to launch an MSP, then I mentioned in another post Airtable (along with Softr) could be built in a day or two along with using AI and have 2-3 versions. If you were starting from scratch, your not going to even remotely be done that fast unless your using a template and even then you’d still have to deal with copy and design.
